I'm Mary M from Oregon. Wish there was another name for hippies but will embrace it out of necessity, lol. Glad to be one considering the alternative back then. Nice to meet you all. Happy Monday
Well, this looks like an interesting group! I was actually more of a flower child than a hippie back in the '60's, attending UCSB - sit-ins, candlelight marches, riots, Bank of America burning, protests of various kinds, all in the name of Peace.
Haven't changed a lot since then, 'cept getting old.
I started my trek in 1969. I don't know when I officially became a hippie. The first time I heard the word I was already one. I remember that one sign that you were a Hippie was that you had to have a roach (alligator) clip on your belt.
I AM STILL A HIPPIE WITH ATTITUDE
I rented a farm in 1973 and we had as many as 20 living there. It was in Cottage Grove Wi. The town only has 520 people, so we were a spectacle. The towns people drove by on Sunday just to see if they could see the long haired Hippies. They forbid there kids to come over when we had a party. Which was every weekend.
We had 4 horses, 17 breeder cows and 100 acres of corn and hay. I did most of the farm chores and had a full time job.I got up and did 2hrs in the AM and 2 more when I got home after work. In those days I only smoked about 10 joints a day. No alcohol. But like a fool I smoked cigs. That's why I have 3 different inhalers now.
I didn't cut my hair from 69-75 when I started my own painting business. I had 2 children. One in 1970 and one in 1972. They were both raised in the Hippie life style. (whatever that is). I only did drugs from 69 until I had heart problems in 2005. I now take more legal drugs than I can stand.
We left the farm in 78 and headed to California to seek our fortune.
