A message from PETA.

P!nk has kicked off a petition asking KFC to make sure that the 850 million birds killed for its buckets each year aren’t abused in ways that would make any kind person lose their lunch:

“PETA is asking KFC to eliminate the worst abuses that chickens suffer in the factory farms and slaughterhouses of its suppliers, including crippling injuries because of cruel breeding practices and the overuse of drugs, having their throats slit while still conscious, and being dunked into tanks of scalding-hot water while still alive and able to feel pain,” the petition reads. It continues, “I urge KFC to adopt the recommendations of PETA—and its own animal welfare advisors—to ensure that the gentle, intelligent animals who end up in its boxes and buckets each day are treated with at least the bare minimum of respect.”

Because birds aren’t included in the only laws that protect animals at slaughter (even though they make up more than 98 percent of the animals eaten in the U.S.), KFC can get away with abusing chickens in these hideous ways. As a leader in the industry, it’s up to KFC to make sure that its birds aren’t being tortured.

P!nk joins the growing list of celebrities—including Paul McCartney, Pamela Anderson, Hawthorne Heights, Good Charlotte, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Black Eyed Peas, and The Rev. Al Sharpton—who are speaking out against KFC’s cruelty to animals.

Please sign the petition here.

He wanted publicity from it an he sure did get it. Hmm...I heard it was very expensive to legally change your name. Either way, I hope he'll be able to change it back soon. I hope KFC stops. Ergh! I can't wait to get an email from him, hehehe...I just want to see that he signs it like that. It must be really hard for him to remember his new name after having Chris be his name for 19 years. Is his first name Kentucky, middle Fried, last Cruelty.com?

PETA staffer legally changes name to KentuckyFriedCruelty.com

NEW YORK (AP) — A 19-year-old PETA staffer has legally changed his name to KentuckyFriedCruelty.com.

Chris Garnett, youth outreach coordinator for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, said he changed his name in support of the group's anti-KFC campaign.

"People don't believe me at first when I tell them my name, but it never fails to spark a discussion," Garnett, er, KentuckyFriedCruelty.com, said in a statement. "Many vow to boycott KFC after I explain the company's indifference to cruelty to animals."

Norfolk, Va.-based PETA's complaints against KFC stem from video footage shot last year recording alleged mistreatment of birds at a Pilgrim's Pride Corp. plant in Moorefield, W.Va. The plant is a KFC supplier.

Yum! Brands, the parent company of KFC, has disputed the claims of mistreatment. In June, a grand jury refused to indict former workers at the West Virginia chicken plant.

Stacked star Pamela Anderson, who has narrated a PETA video showing the alleged abuse, supports Garnett's name change.

"I'm sure Chris can't wait 'till KFC stops torturing chickens so he can change his name back," the actress said in a statement, adding that the chicken abuse "is awful and has to stop."

P.S. USA Today made a significant typo in the article; they spelled his name wrong twice! (once in the article itself and another time in the text next to the Pam picture) So it said KentuckyFriendCruelty.com instead!

What’s in a Name?
Deciding to make a statement every time he’s asked for or signs his name, a 19-year-old PETA staff member—formerly known as Chris Garnett—has legally changed his name to KentuckyFriedCruelty.com, the same name as PETA’s Web site that gives the lowdown on KFC’s refusal to eliminate the worst abuses of chickens raised and killed to fill its buckets. The former Dover Plains, New York, resident and current Street Team coordinator of peta2—PETA’s youth division—has the official state papers and driver’s license to prove it. His parents—who have been supportive since he went vegan at age 15—were a little shocked at first, but although they insist on still calling him Chris, they’ve accepted the change. KentuckyFriedCruelty.com’s advocacy for animals has been the defining force in his life since he was a child. His father would take him fishing, but when he saw the animals struggling at the end of a hook, he insisted on taking up bird-watching instead. He started the first animal rights group at both his high school and college, fought for the right of students to refuse dissection, and pressured cafeteria officials to offer more vegetarian options. Under KentuckyFriedCruelty.com’s watchful eye, peta2’s Street Team has grown to more than 100,000 dedicated young activists across the country who will mobilize in defense of animals at a moment’s notice. Why on Earth did KentuckyFriedCruelty.com feel the need to change his identity? What’s so bad about KFC? The more than 850 million chickens killed each year for KFC are tortured in ways that would result in felony cruelty-to-animals charges if dogs or cats were the victims—from being drugged and bred to grow so large that many become crippled from the weight of their massive upper bodies to having their throats slit and being scalded to death while they’re still conscious. KFC ignored the recommendations for animal welfare improvements made by members of its own advisory panel, five of whom have since resigned after being ignored for years. KFC advisor Adele Douglass told the Chicago Tribune that KFC “never had any meetings. They never asked any advice, and then they touted to the press that they had this animal-welfare advisory committee. I felt like I was being used.” KentuckyFriedCruelty.com joins the growing ranks of consumers, celebrities, and scholars—including actor Pamela Anderson, The Rev. Al Sharpton, Sir Paul McCartney, and His Holiness the Dalai Lama—who are helping out in PETA’s campaign to force KFC to end its abusive treatment of chickens.

Everything to do with KFC's Cruelty, please post here!

Why KFC?

PETA is asking KFC to eliminate the worst abuses that chickens suffer on the factory farms and in the slaughterhouses of its suppliers, including live scalding, life-long crippling, and painful debeaking. The more than 850 million chickens killed each year for KFC are tortured in ways that would result in felony cruelty-to-animals charges if cats or dogs were the victims, but KFC still refuses to make changes. As the leader in the chicken industry, KFC has a responsibility to ensure that the chickens raised for its buckets are protected from the worst cruelties.
