Just wanted to see what was the last thing you did to help animals. It could be not eating meat, sending an email/letter, signing a petition, protesting, handing out leaflets, etc...
I hope this one lets members socialize a bit more here ![]()
Let's see, well I've been vegetarian for over a year so I've got the no meat one covered. I've signed some petitions (I post the animal rights ones here as soon as I find them), oh, and I contacted PETA about a pet store in a town not too far away from me that sells baby alligators (and they have a monkey in the store too, they don't sell monkeys as far as I know though). I gave them the store's contact info (I got a flyer from them in last Sunday's newspaper), so hopefully they'll be doing something about it soon!
Or they'll at least give me some tips on what to do.
I assisted in a research project organized by ALDF. We were looking into the legal rights of rescuers and veterinarians who were volunteering to help animals in the wake of the Katrina disaster.
You can see the results of our work here: http://www.aldf.org/Answers_for_Hurricane_FAQs.pdf (my group did questions 2a through 3e, or at least the questions in there to which we could find answers quickly; some of the answers are still being worked on by ALDF staff). It was a big project, and we only had a few days to do it.
But I'm excited about it!
Thanks for sharing Ruchi and Catwoman! You're both so awesome!
I just posted a ton of action alerts on here and PETA2 (my posts on there are dominating the board, lol). Since I posted them, I took part in the majority of the ones that I hadn't yet participated in. It's surprising how many of the organizations sent out the same info.
Along with caring for the sick/abused animals and taming/tnr the ferals.I have signed petitions and had my letter to the editor published in the aiken standard.
Go to demos...I especially love the lab animal demos here at Emory University, sign petitions, write, fax, call, politicians, donate time and money to NEAVS, HSUS, SpayGeorgia, PETA...help starys in the area, heck I adopted one after I vetted her, including spay. Help educate others about cruelty, and the right way to treat an animal, I am vegan, and slowly getting my husband to drop meat, and at least eat cage free eggs if he has to eat eggs at all. Readoing up on new laws concerning sanimal care and husbandry here in GA. So I can open my mouth more than I do now.
I do what I can. Right now I am getting some money together for a more reliable car so I can go to more demos and meetings.
Awesome! Thank you all so much for posting!
The last thing I did for animal rights? Hmmm...I just signed a petition. I've been really focusing on the environment this year - I'm the leader of my high school's environmental club. Hey! Helping the environment in turn helps out everyone! ![]()
I've posted things on here for members to participate in. I haven't done anything directly very recenlty though.
I bought a tree from the Amazon with my environmental club at school. The tree stays where it is, but by purchasing it, it'll not come into human harm. If anyone is interested in this: http://rainforestforever.org/
Wow, good on all of you for all your time and fantastic efforts!
The last thing I did for animal rights was to announce that I'd gone veggie/vegan to all of my groups and advocate that even if people have no intention of giving up meat and fish, that they can still make an enormous difference by boycotting cruel companies and being as animal friendly as possible.
I've also been doing many a petition and pledges.
(yes, I've got a memory like a fish) I have compiled 2 petitions which I fax off worldwide and click on animal sites to raise money everyday.
Next weekend I'm house leaflet dropping 500 mobile phone and also printer cartridge recycling envelopes together with cardboard money boxes, all for various animal charities.
I think that's it lol!
