Your group looks very well rounded. Pleased to be here.
Hi everyone!
I am new to this group. My name is Catherine, I am a 15 years old activist. I have one dog and three rats as companion animals. They were all rescued. I am glad to join your team.
![]()
Also, thank you for sharing your story. It really shows how amazing animals are and how needed they are in our lives.
We transitioned to Vegan almost one month ago. I'm really enjoying the transition. Learning about lots of new recipes. A special friend who has been Vegan for years has been extremely generous with her time by sharing some known winners. Plus, I've found many, many sites on the web that include Vegan recipes. Made a quick bread yesterday that my husband pronounced, "if it was any better, it would be illegal!" It's true, one's palate need not suffer by becoming Vegan. You can also watch the carbs and fat and still eat wonderfully well.
We have two precious kitties (actually they are sisters who recently celebrated their 13th Birthdays) that we rescued six 1/2 years ago. They make us happy and keep us laughing with their adorable antics. I honestly believe, animals make us better human beings by gracing our lives with their presence. They have the ability to teach us more than we will ever teach them!
I'm happy to be here.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Liena,
living in Latvia. I work in 2 dog shelters and i`m very active member
of 2 Latvia`s animal protection groups. I am the youngest person in
Latvia who have ever got cynological sertificate and i study dogs and
humans psychology by myself, so in shelter i work with dogs who are
aggresive or frightened because of having psychical traumas.
As you
see dogs are what i care the most. I have a dog who have suffered from
violence first 6 years of his life, i took him from shelter before 5
years and now only scars on his body reminds about his past. I have two
cats (mama and her daughter) i took them from street before 2 months.
As a bonus for my little zoo is 2 guinea pigs wich i took from shelter
too.
Well i guess that`s all for now... if i can help you somehow just ask i`ll do as much as i can.
I have no idea what the "animal snuff films" are though. Is it online or something?
Well, if you give us some more information, maybe we could contact someone or something of the sort to help out.
Organic food? Me too! If organic is around, then I'll get/eat it!
That's a pretty poem, The Panther. Thanks for sharing!
His vision, from the constantly passing bars,
has grown so weary that it cannot hold
anything else. It seems to him there are
a thousand bars; and behind the bars, no world.
As he paces in cramped circles, over and over,
the movement of his powerful soft strides
is like a ritual dance around a center
in which a mighty will stands paralyzed.
Only at times, the curtain of the pupils
lifts, quietly--. An image enters in,
rushes down through the tensed, arrested muscles,
plunges into the heart and is gone. - Rilke

Now Tanya, I'm not too sure what you're trying to say. At first I thought you were saying you didn't like this group and was relieved when I saw you were talking about another, or were you talking about mine? If so, no biggie, I'd love comments here!
But anyway...I was thinking of joining PETH, your group that you mentioned, but even though it looks like you're all trying to stay away from arguments, a lot are going on. That's great that you want to change that and improve the group. Good luck! If you need to talk some more and if I didn't understand what you wrote the right way (sorry, my fault..I know
Cheryl!
I first introduced myself on March first and I wanted to introduce myself again with some new information:
I'm relatively new to interacting with care2 connect groups. I have been asked, and recently accepted, to be one of the hosts in the group PETH. I don't like this group well, but the idea is to change it's tone a little bit and discuss instead of mindless bashing. What I'd love for the antispeciests to think about is openning discussion topics within this group like: the ethics of patriarchal environmental control/ the ethics of killing ferals because other solutions would allegedly require too many (financial) resources/ if hunters, fishers and meat eaters don't ask you to do it then why should they be asked not to do it(haha this one should be easy and it's a common but not very threatening idea). Issues like these(not limited to these by far) are perfectly valid for us to discuss anyway, and it would be helpful in producing intellegent and objective argument to those who just don't get it. And that is my introduction to me for now. I hope it doesn't sound pushy. Thanks.
Brenda - I'm so glad you've joined! That is a really pretty tag! The more help we can get, the better. And I'm here to supply you with the possibilities to help out! Thank you so much for joining!
Sue - Looks like there are a lot of cat people on here. I love dogs, but I've got 5 cats, one fish, and no dog. I don't think my dad would be able to take it!

thanks lauren for inviting me to this group.I've been doing whatever i could to try to stop cruelty for yrs. This lovely tag was made for me by JoAnna of the happy time group, she is a sweetheart.
I hope to meet more new friends here and i'm here to help in anyway i can.
Brenda P
just new as of today
15? Wow, that's getting old... Almost as old as me!
Please feel free to post any action alerts, or anything involving animals really, on here! The more - the better!
I can't say I'm new, at my age I'm getting a little wore out around the corners. But this is my first time at this group. I'm an animal lover from way back. But my favorite is the feline family. I have 2 furbabies (cats), guess I shouldn't call one a baby he's almost 15.... but there's no dating in his future. I'll sign just about any petition if it is to help an animal, or to punish somebody who hurt an animal.
Hmm...let me get this straight - you lightly "spank" your companion animals? Well, that's not too good. I've read in so many places that the only way you should punish your animal is by squirting it with water - not even to yell at them. And I know for sure that if you abuse an animal, the more aggressive it'll get. Try the water technique!
I'm so very glad you joined and I hope this group will meet your needs as an ARA!
Hello everyone! Just came in this evening, and I'm happy to be here. I see many familiar faces from other groups!
I'm an animal lover, and I have been actively fighting animal abuse, cruelty, exploitation and neglect for many years ~ even before I became a Care2 member. If I don't post often, that doesn't mean that I'm not around. I'm here daily ~ busy writing letters ~ searching for new cases/issues that need to be addressed, etc....
Thanks for announcing that you're here Tanya!
I know what you mean about being in groups, but not posting. It doesn't mean I'm not paying attention and not taking action on certain posts. It just makes me kind of sad as a group host to just see my threads, that took a bunch of effort to post, go sailing down to the bottom without any replies.
It's also so exciting to know others feel the same way as you do. But sometimes, in a community like mine (and the group of peers that go to my school), it's very hard to find someone with the same values over life as I have and sometimes I wish I had someone that was exactly like me - we'd get so much done!
Well,
Eva, thanks for posting the link!
I'm a bit confused with all the animalist groups aroundd each doing important actions for animals-it would take ages to surf them all!
Let's keep in touch all together!
And thanks again for inviting me!
These days I'm doing a campaign to save a place in town where we let our ogs play unleashed with all the others. Unfortunately the city wants to use it for other purposes-but the dogs can't be kept in flat 24 hours a day without playing-we need a free unleashed zone- a huge one to let them play and run free without being in anger. I'll come by soon again, promisedd!
Hugs to all of you!
Karin
I'm so glad you joined. I know what you mean, I wasn't focused on the world too much until about a year and a half ago when I became a vegetarian and joined the PETA2 street team - then my eyes were open and I know so much more now! I don't know (and I don't think I want to knw) what my life would be like without the internet - I'm pretty sure I'd still be a meat-eater and wouldn't be helping as many animals as I am now.
Well, again -
Sorry, the breeder is far from California, they're in Pennsylvania! And we got Ruby almost 5 years ago and I don't know if the breeder is even still breeding birds (or how to get in contact with her again).
By the way, our cockatiel doesn't talk (not in a way that we could understand
), but that's OK. I'd rather have her chirp and squawk and chatter than have her saying a word that you wouldn't want company to hear
Seriously, it can be a little harder to teach a cockatiel to talk than with a larger bird (and not all cockatiels can learn to talk), but it can be done. You can also train them to whistle a song. Remember that teaching a cockatiel to talk can take weeks of training, and they have to be comfortable with their teacher so they'll be calm enough to learn the words or tunes.
Eva: It's probably the commercial breeders that are the worst. It isn't really talked about a lot, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was overcrowding and overbreeding involved. And don't get me started on wild-caught birds! That's the worst of all! I don't know if they still get cockatiels from the wild, but it's possible. That situation with that dog is just sad, "not mean enough"? Get a security system pal!
It's shameful, really. I hope that dog gets a home where they love him for who he is! ![]()
The main reason I don't support breeding is because there are so many dogs/cats/etc. in shelters, there are no reasons for breeders. One week when I went to my local HS there were about 1-3 new dogs in there per day. Not only that, but do you remember when kings and queens would inter-marry because they wanted to marry to the same blood. That made them extremely sick and most would die so early - it's the same with animals. And then there is the AR groups reasons, like PETA's, which is all about the problem of over-population which I mentioned before.
I looked at petfinder and I found out that there are some baby cockatiels I can adopt. SO I will probably/hopefully adopt! They have to be in the California, cause we can't go out of state/country to get me a bird!
Lauren if the breeder you got your cockatiel from lives in California then you could give us her address and we can look into buying a bird from her. (If she is still a bird breeder.)
Maya - Lauren is right, no matter what - adoption is the best solution. I volunteer at my local Humane Society and it's so sad seeing all these animals in there for so long because (in one instance, a man gave a dog to the HS because she wasn't mean enough and he wanted a really mean dog) someone doesn't want them. I strongly suggest adopting. I don't know much about bird breeders, but I know dog and cat breeders are awful so I assumed and placed them all in the same pile. Maybe you can find someone like Lauren found, where it was a small town breeder, that's even a bit better. But again, adoption is best! Good luck and thanks for asking!
I do have some information on cockatiels. I just want to know more from people who actually own them and can answer my questions.
I will still look into adopting a cockatiel, but no guaranteess!
Our cockatiel came from a breeder (a small, family-based one) who advertised in the newspaper classifieds. But she was a special-needs bird then (she's doing pretty well now), when she was a chick her nestmates got on top of her and broke her leg, and the breeders had to take her to the vet to have her leg fixed. They didn't sell her right away because she had to recover from the whole ordeal. Because of this, she has to have a cage with horizontal bars so she can climb up and keep her leg strong.
Another thing with pet store birds is that you have to train them to perch on your finger and stuff (you have to get them used to people handling them), and that can take a while to do. Our cockatiel, because she spent so much time with the breeders, was already trained to do that stuff.
Have you researched cockatiel care and such? You should get to know the ins and outs of cockatiel care before you get one.
If I may make a suggestion, why don't you adopt a cockatiel instead? There are a lot of cockatiels in shelters who need homes. You can find them in shelters in your area with this website: www.petfinder.com
Maya - I don't want to sound like a mean person, but breeders are awful. Pet stores are not any better. Animals that are in pet stores most likely come from breeders. If you want any information, please ask me to post some. I'm a bit in a rush right now, so I can't really do that - but please ask if you do want to know more!
I'm Karin, 35 years of which 25 as an animal activist - I started activity by collecting signatures against vivisection which was a horror I discoveed while sitting in the waiting room of a dentist (it was in a magazine). I'm a native german speaker, my second language being italian as I live in northern Italy. My son has also been involved in some activities, he's 6 years old and lives with me, his father, two cats and our dog, Alex, who is a great mixture between german shephard/doberman (his mom) and Schnautzer/another race (his dad) who strongly believes to be a cat (as he'd been brought up by two cats). All three are sure to be my kids, they are alway hugging us and trying to sit on us...
hanks again for inviting me!
Love,
Karin
What color cockatiel? My mom was going to get me a pet (cockatiel) last may for my birthday but she keeps postponing it! She will have to buy me one soon! I need to read a little more about them and pick out which colors!
Welcome Debbie and Maya!![]()
Debbie: Thanks for coming! That is fantastic that you work at an SPCA. Thank you for doing all you can to help the animals!![]()
Maya: You're 10?!?
Just checking, but do your parents know that you joined Care2? OK, initial shock fading... Thanks for joining! I recommend that you check out www.petakids.com , it has lots of great animal stuff on it, I highly recommend subscribing to Grr! magazine (it's free!). I have a cockatiel too, her name is Ruby. Thanks again for coming! ![]()
Hi everyone.
Thanks Lauren for inviting me.
I am strongly for the rights of animals. They are our family and we must defend them. They deserve to be happy, loved, and honored. We must bring back the ways of the indian.. we must once again learn how to live in complete harmony with our environment.
I look forward to talking to everyone.

Nope, I haven't heard a word from the Goodall Institue. And I don't even get their monthly updates! ![]()
That's great about you being on the newspaper staff; the more ads and other word-spreading things you can get in there, the better!
I run a website dedicated to getting Humans to live with Wolves without
killing them.
I specialize in offering peaceful alternatives to
livestock interactions and active in protecting Wolves around the globe.
Please stop by.

. I will be when I move out though! ![]()
Well, thank you! ![]()
Hey! I'm new to the group. Thanks for making this group, it seems cool! ![]()
A little bit about me...
- I'm 15 and from Illinois
- Vegan
- I have two puppies(Wendy and Lucky) and two kitties(Precious and Bebe)
- Been an ARA for about 6 months now
Sarah
Are you kidding me? I have tasted some soy meats that taste so much like real animal flesh that I almost vomited and could not finish it.
I suggest Boca, Gardenburger, and Morningstar.
But anyway, good luck! I believe in you!
Thanks so much for the veggie link ![]()
Hopefully in time I will 'cross over'...I don't think my hubby ever will though. I keep trying but until companies can make a soy meat replacement that actually looks, tastes, smells and satisfies like the real thing...I am going to keep falling off the vegan wagon unfortunately.
But, I do keep trying ![]()
T
Hazel - No, no - thank YOU!
Terrie - Thanks for joining my group - very much appreciated! You sound like a very interesting person. If you need any help/information on becoming a vegetarian/vegan, please just ask for some. www.GoVeg.com Welcome!!
Hi all~
Thanks for the invite Nikki ![]()
Wow....so many groups....so little time in a day LOL.
Thanks for starting this group up Kit
So a little about moi....I live in Texas, I have 6 big dogs, love to watch wildlife, I am a rabid...um...er...uh...avid, yeah that's the word--wolf lover, I garden-both flowers and veggies, I am an eclectic, I have no 2-legged children, I do have a spouse living somewhere in this house and I one day wish to become a vegetarian (having a really hard time with this aspect of me).
Well, that pretty well sums me up for now. LOL
Thanks again ![]()

Welcome to the group and thanks for picking mine as one of your first to join. I hope you like it here! ![]()

Hi everyone! Thank you for the invite Nikki! It;s great to see so many familiar names and new ones too!
I'm Anne, from Sout East UK, was 32 last week, have a dog and a cat <grin> and LOVE all animals, especially wolves! I have a site http://www.saaw.org that is about spreading the news about animals that need our help!
Máire - Thank you for joining! And thank you for my message. I'm exstatic that it's those like me who are giving you hope. In the time that I've become an ARA, I've noticed so much change - so much good. When I first started out I was in shock and disbelief about the whole world, now I see the good in the world and I love reading about all our victories, small or big, they all add up!
Nikki - I am a lot like you. Now all I do is write letters, sign petitions, talk on groups about AR, HR, and environmental issues, but this weekend I will be participating in my first protest (KFC)! I'm very excited...and nervous! I hope we, myself and those protesting with me, get more of a positive message than a negative one because I don't want to go home with no hope. I, like you, feel as though animal rights (animals including humans) is the reason I am on this earth. Thanks for joining!
Kathy - Thank you so much for joining! For a while I was thinking that I had created this group for no reason, and now I see more members!
If we all do a little it adds up to a lot!!
Hi everyone!
I'm a newbie as well. I'm in about eight different Animal Rights Groups on Care2, plus I'm in some Environmental and Human Rights Groups...and some random Groups like "The Haunted House" (hehehehehe)...
I'm 23 years old, and I live in St. Louis, Missouri. My family and I have three companion dogs (Molly, Homer, and Bear), three companion cats (Joey, Jinx, and Jasmine), and two fish (Zeus and Buber). Working for Animal Rights is one of the top priorities in my life, besides my family and friends. I am a Vegetarian, and I am becoming more and more active in Animal Rights. My dream job would be to work for an Animal Rights organization, no matter how big or small. I would like to eventually dress COMPLETELY "cruelty-free", i.e. no leather, silk, fur, wool, cashmere, etc....many of those things I don't wear anyways but I need to phase out a couple of shoes with leather in them. I am educating myself more all the time and learning about different issues and campaigns. So far I've just been doing a lot of stuff from home and work- you know, writing letters, signing petitions, talking on Care2, spreading the word through e-mail and by mouth, boycotting certain companies & restaurants, etc. But soon I would like to work more in the "the field"- I am planning on volunteering at my local Humane Society. I was considering joining START, the St. Louis Animal Rights Team, but I may be moving away from St. Louis in the near future so we'll see...
No matter where I go and what happens though, Animal Rights will always be the most important work of my life! It's great to meet all of you!
Love and Peace, Respect for All Living Things~
Nikki
Eva, thank you so much for this awesome Group!!
. . . It is young, dedicated people like YOU who still give me the most hope!!
I love & want to help ALL Animals ~ incl. Humans!! ; )
Seriously though, it's really great to be here and meet the other Members!! . . . I'm looking forward to working together to help our Fellow Creatures!!
Máire, aka
Cosmic Rhino ] :< )
Nice of you to join us! ![]()
I'm so sorry about your cat. I know how horrible it is to lose a companion animal.
"i dont eat meat try not to eat chicken but do eat fish
"
LoL, somewhat of an oxymoron there, ha. If you need any tips or information about anything related to veg*anism, please just say - I'm full of it!
Once again - welcome! and thanks for coming!!
