October 15 - 21, 2006 marks National Wolf Awareness Week. This week is an important vehicle for dispelling misconceptions and educating the public about the role predators play in maintaining biological diversity.

The wolf is a striking symbol of wild nature, yet they have long been shrouded by myth and superstition. Earlier this century, this keystone species was methodically exterminated from nearly all of its historic range.

New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont...you can make a difference..

DEN ALERT:
Support Wolf Awareness Week

Defenders of Wildlife is working towards getting all 50 states to
recognize Wolf Awareness Week this year from October 15 through 21.  Wolf Awareness Week is an important vehicle for dispelling misconceptions and educating the public about the role predators play in the natural world. It also encourages the public to develop more of a live-and-let-live relationship with all wild species. Defenders needs DEN activists to urge their Governors to recognize the importance of participating in Wolf Awareness Week. Some states such as California, Virginia, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont have never recognized Wolf Awareness
Week and need an extra push from constituents.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

Send an e-mail to Governor Gray Davis' office today urging him to
recognize the third week of October as Wolf Awareness Week. Please  send your e-mail by October 13 to ensure your Governor acts quickly on the issue.

INSTRUCTIONS TO RESPOND VIA THE WEB:

If you have access to the web, simply click on the link below which
will take you to the DEN Action Center web site:

I fully support Wolf Mountain Sanctuary as you can tell.  I have a adopted Istas and send in a monthly donation to keep this sancturay going.  I have personally been there and have met the people that love and care for these wolves.  You won't regret it.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
