I'm glad to be a part of this Care2 group. I joined the national group a few months back, after reading of NAMI's ongoing work for justice for those who know the pain of mental illness.  [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]

Hello! July 09, 2007 12:09 PM

My name is Elizabeth and am so glad to see a group that fits EXACTLY what I feel. I am tired of the steriotypical crap that our money grumbing society has deemed us. I am tired of feeling like a freak when I know I am not. That it's something wrong that society needs to be made to see is wrong. We may need help but that doesn't mean that we are ignorant or stupid and don't feel or bleed like they do. Or can't work because we have these problems. I am so thankful for this group and all that you all have to offer. Thank you so much I can't express all of the joy I feel on seeing and being apart of this group. We need to educate the ignorant people about mental illness and why and how it can be spread. Again thank you and my family thanks you as well. Sincerely, Elizabeth  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Welcome to our little but growing group. Hopefully you can find some answers here or just someone to talk to who really understands you. Yes Elizabeth, it's society that has to change. It's up to us to educate people one by one if necessary, to see a change in attitude.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hi Everyone. I am C.C. 39 yr old mother of one 14 yr old son with ADHD, BiPolar, Mood Disorder who has been in-and-out of (so called) treatment facilities. He is now on Lithium and doing great so far and we hope for his return home soon to begin High School! I am disabled w/ Fibromyalgia, Osteoarthritis, Neuropathy, and BiPolar. I have just been recently asked to join the Resource Investigation Committee as a Parent Advocate for my County. They compile resources and help with placements, etc. for At-Risk Youth. I will learn more at the July meeting. I will also be attending the next City Disability Committee meeting as they are looking for committee members. I am interested in becoming some sort of Patient Advocate for small children (toddlers +) with behavioral/mood issues. I want to help them get the best help they can get no matter their income or other situation. Look forward to meeting yall' Peace, C.C.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Welcome to our new member and a warm hello to Kenyatta. I've been away from this site for awhile. I've had some issues of my own that I had to handle. You're right Kenyatta, with this number of members, there should be some issues that warrant a discussion.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
Hello everyone July 08, 2008 12:01 AM

My name is bryon. I've motiple diagnosis, not unusual as some have observed. Bipolar 2 that evolved (de-voled?) into classic bipolar, ADHD, OCD, and the list goes on. I am a member of the regional branch of NAMI hear in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I've found it to be a very rewarding (if sometimes frustrating) experience. Looking foward to what I'm sure will be interesting discussions. I'm pretty open about my experience in this area (i.g., suicidal ideation, rapidid cycling, etc.) so please feel free to ask me anything or if you just need to yell at someone you can find my email on my C2 page. Take Care, Bry'  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hi Everyone - I am the Mother of Mattie, who dealt with his illness from age 12 to 20. He disappeared Nov 2007 and is thought to have jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge. I have petitions to ask the Bridge Board of Directors to change the railings and submitted one already with over 200 names (THANKS to those of you here that alrady signed!). They will vote in Oct/Nov of this year. Cross your fingers and say a prayer that they do the right thing. I have also dealt with depression for years. I find that focusing my energies towards raising awareness of mental health and suicide prevention keep me from spiraling downward. I have known about NAMI since Mattie's first suicide attempt 8 years ago and know how supportive and informative they can be. Our family did our first NAMI walk in May of this year and it felt good to be productive after such a loss.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hello, everyone! I finally have my computer back in my room! I did not realize how long I have been absent. I worked 6/7 days a week this past year at the teen prison I work at and mostly came home and was knocked out... Again, I do apologize for being away for so long; it's been a very emotional roller-coaster this summer. One of my son's best friends committed suicide in May, and his best friend of several years (who has also lived off/on with us) was killed in a horrible car accident due to a vein bursting in his brain, and this past week a woman I played basketball with, her daughter (26) hung herself and left a twin sister and 7-year old son; she was my nephew's best friend & he's devastated...My son is trying to deal with the loss of his friends, and one of his other friends moved in with us in June, who is bipolar but she has been truly a Blessing and I'm taking her tomorrow for a good job interview [please keep her in your prayers as well]. Sometimes, life can be very "ROUGH", but we have to pick ourselves us and keep moving forward ~ My "FAITH" keeps me going. I want to learn everything that I can, and hopefully be able to help other's when they feel at a loss or alone and need support. Blessings, ~ Cindy It is great to see so many folks!  [ send green star]
