I just fell for these beautiful creatures! April 14, 2005 1:10 PM
I just saw this on the other group thingy and clicked and joined the group. It's wonderful. I was signing a petition last week and I adopted a beautiful manatee. I had never really seen photos of any before and I just thought they were fantastic. I e-mailed umpteen people yesterday and I hope they will not pass House Bill 989. Fingers crossed. I'm so glad this group is here. I wish they wouldn't destroy habitats like they do. What a tragedy if they don't survive!!

I saw it yesterday just by chance on the Petition Site Center April 14, 2005 2:07 PM
It was under the thread URGENT Manatees need help or something like that. If you look there, you'll find the girl that posted it and she must know a lot about it and maybe comes from Florida. She would love to join this group I would think! Lots of luck to you!

Just went on the petition site to find the one in this discussion and provide it to everyone. Looks like it's no longer on there, unless it's not categorized in the animal section. Hey, maybe that's good news! Hope everyone's day is going well! -m

My adoption papers came through this morning! April 18, 2005 10:59 AM
Do you ever feel like crying? I have a photograph of Whiskers and I am one of his official adoptive parents. I feel like crying just at the sight of him. He's a beauty. And of course I've read through the membership handbook and that would make you cry for another reason. How could anyone not want to protect these lovely creatures, these gentle giants as they're called? My mother now wants to join the Save the Manatee Club. She's fallen for them too now that she's seen the photo of Whiskers. She's 81. Still adores all animals.
Many of the children in my class have been to Florida and one was there over the Spring holiday there. So we're talking about the manatees and I got them on the internet. I'll take in all the stuff tomorrow that I got in - there's some lovely stuff for children. It's brilliant! They will love his photo too.
Whiskers is a West Indian Manatee and he's at Blue Spring State Park. Soon my mother will adopt him as well. A Scottish ma and a Scottish grannie. Gaun yersel', Whiskers! Love ye tae bits, big man!
Roxane, thanks! I have printed this out and will take it tomorrow into school. The children are quite fascinated by the manatee and I told them a lot about them today. Children love animals. One wee girl who just came to the school yesterday told me she had been to see the manatees when she was in Florida. She was too shy to speak yesterday but we have her right settled in now. My children are wonderfully kind and friendly. So they love Whiskers. I could use any ideas for class lessons on the manatee. Thanks so much!!!! They will love this picture.

I've just printed it out and photocopied it for my class on Monday. On Thursday a wee boy brought in a book with a picture of a manatee and the story about how they probably gave rise to the legend of the mermaid. It was thrilling. And later I heard some of my children telling others about the manatee and the legend. It was lovely. Thanks so much.

I adopted my Floyd several months ago, but I only received his photo, a one time magazine, and a handbook. NO T-shirt or anything else. Why? How disappointing now that you're mentioning it! Also, I believe I posted the photo under a different topic and can't find it anymore...
In any event, I'd like to adopt a "sister" for my Floyd, and hopefully receive all what I am entitled to!
