New members - post a note re where you are.... May 31, 2004 3:50 AM
If you post a note as to which country you live in, I'll give you the link to the page and section dealing with your region.
The main travel site is at
The daily updated Air News is at
and Tips, Recommendations etc direct at
Don't be shy to give feed back and start a discussion as to how we can make the site more interesting.
Just ask if you are interested in a particular country and how to get there.
Have a nice day

Yep! I live in Canada.
Is there any way I can travel for a living? I am thinking to travel and write about what I perceive, see, and experience. I am very intereted in what people believe and why they believe the things that they do. I am looking for the ideal country to move to. One where the people are warm, live a quality life (know how to live), and make a living using their talents. The location can't be too hot, and no winter (at least not more than 2 months)!
I know that I want to travel, but I do not know where to start. Originally I was hoping to have continued university abroad, but now I don't have this opportunity. Work and travel sound good... I was thinking to work at Youth Hostels, but would rather work on some project related to my field of study. I seem to be too old for some of the programs that I have heard about.
So how do some people afford to travel so much? How does one go about seeing the world?
My ideal travel experience would be an untouristy one. I have had a dream of living in Venice for six months, to paint and to write. I also dream to live in Corsica for a while. I dream...

Congrats on your Japan (I used to work for Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank on the Continent) and Myanmar (I always wanted to get to Burma)
Didn't get closer than Malaysia however.
If you have any travel stories, then would love to hear them for islands (Japan) at OceanicIslands and for countries (Myanmar) at CountriewWorldwide
See reply to Melissa for details
Give my regards to ZA. A lot of South Africans working here on the Isle of Man in the hotel close to my home. Good wines down there!

Hi Karunda and welcome to the group
Do let me know of any Indian discount airlines and car hire companies as well as places/areas which shouldn't be missed and any good dining establishments you know. I'd love to include a section about India
I always wanted to take the mountain road to Leh over the Himalaya. Met a lady once who said she died 3 times on that trip. Must be quite exciting

Welcome new members / New reports site / OceanicIslands and CountriesWorldwide September 25, 2005 5:23 AM
The Homepage Announcements include a direct link to the AirNews site and also to the Travel Reports site which includes big reports on Lithuania, Norway, Menorca, Rhodes and a lot of the UK. Canada/USA will follow as will Australia/New Zealand.
All sections can be clicked from the dropdown menu at the main site The Announcemnts now read:
www.travel.holidays.com/ - The site that gives you all the links on how to get there. Non-commercial site for aiding travellers.
Travel Reports will include postings which are too big for this group and which appear on the two sister Yahoogroups lists OceanicIslands and CountriesWorldwide
These two email groups have been running for some time now but only post about once per month (CW last posted in May even) and so they don't bring a heap of extra mail. When they do post then it is a long posting (something for Sunday afternoon!) but gives you maps links, pictures links and further information links to each and every island or country.
To join, just send a blank mail to Oceanicislandsfirstname.lastname@example.org or similarly to Countriesworldwideemail@example.com and you are part of the party.
What do they bring you? An interesting geographical insight into countries and islands unknown. We have exotic and hot islands, we have glaciated and bitterly cold islands and we have the New England coast islands too. CW list deals with all countries that are not islands.
My Biography & Introduction October 15, 2005 11:45 AM
In order to clear up any confusion, I am an "Ex Pat", not a traveller, and reside for some 19 years in El Salvador and Guatemala, Central America as well as several months to a year in neighboring Mexico and Nicaragua.(View my Bio on url: http://www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/caguide/ ) My main contact with travellers over the years has been professional acting either as a guide-interpreter or reservations specialist, other than that other long term ex pats and natives are friends of mine. The above mentioned or other Latin American countries may not be the ideal places for YOU to study, travel or volunteer, especially if you have heard how 'dangerous' it is in parts of Central and South America. You research, you decide. At present I am assisting a Non Profit Organiztion in Nicaragua CINDURMA
"Since I began escorting visitors in Guatemala in 1986 , I've had many of you asking me to show you around Central America. Some of you have been waiting for years to go on one of our Relocation Evaluation Tours, geared towards the country or your choice in Central America . Here's your chance ...we sponsor “freedomabroad” and other programs specifically tailored for the growing number of people fed up with the “rat race” up north, whether up in North America or over in the UK or Western Europe. We've planned a fabulous trips for this coming winter, October 2005 through April 2006, we're really excited about it . This isn't standard tourist fare . As always with our tours, guided by experienced bi lingual native or resident ex pat guides, you'll see the country " from the ground up" , experiencing what it's really like to live here . You'll meet and visit with people in their homes , we'll take you grocery shopping and we'll even introduce you to the local doctor and dentist! Don't laugh , some after seeing the clean , ultra modern dental clinic , stayed on and had extensive dental work done at a fraction of what it would have cost at home . Some felt this alone was worth the price of the tour ...the savings on the dental work alone paid for the price of airfare, hotels and tours with a bit left over! So our Central American evaluation tour is more an experience than a tour....."
CINDURMA Volunteer with us in Nicaragua
We are constructing an 800 acre Non-Profit Eco Lodge just North of Managua. The lodge has a River and Lake front with views of the mountains past the valley. Horse back riding and hiking trails are being developed through the property. Each trail is “themed” with History or Natural information. One main lodge building and 12 smaller bungalows that are of open design. Each with it’s own fruit trees and private surroundings. The Lodge is of an Eco mind set, using environmental philosophy. All inclusive with Food, Beverages, Tours and Fishing. The trails and land area are being redeveloped to support local wild life. Each of those with camping shelters with grills etc… There will be no Hunting except with a Camera however, we will offer fishing in the River and Lake. Monkeys, Fish, and over 250 types of Bird are in this area.
Profits of this project will go to helping support three public schools in the area. At a later date construction of 80 low income homes will also take place. Our charity (CINDURMA) is registered with the Nicaragua Government in Managua. Copy of my certification is posted in the Group “Files” area. If you are not interested in donating to this project please look at some others in the Country - there are many !
If you or your group are interested in working with this project please feel free to contact us for more information and free DVD. We need: Workers to come build, people interested in developing the area schools, Financial contributions.
Check out the Maps and Photos in the "PHOTOS" and then "NON PROFIT ECO LODGE section to the left. Hey, the other pics are not bad either.
The DVD is yours for the asking whether you decide to come or not, and tell any of your friends who amy be interested..there are tours and spanish classes for those interested in getting to know the people and land of Nicaragua personally.
For the DVD E mail Glenn (Georgia USA) firstname.lastname@example.org or join the Yahoo Group and inquire of Glenn there, who is the moderator.
I'm from Lithuania. Born here, live here and will ... well, maybe not.
Perhaps I'll make as many travelling as I'd like to and who knows what the final destination place will be.... I love travelling very much, more than I cabn actually afford. Travelling by plane fascinates me most of all. I love aircrafts (and aircraftmen )
I am from Melbourne in Australia, and live near the biggest shopping centre in the Southern Hemisphere. It is now 5 kms to walk around and they are going to build on more space for another 200 shops and places to elfresco which will be nice although its a nightmare at times living just two minutes away especially Christmas time. I live ten minutes away from the City of Melbourne, and about 15 minutes from the sea.
Welcom to all new and newer members October 20, 2008 8:49 AM
First of all, thanks to older members for posting a bit about themselves
Whilst we might not be the largest group on Care2, we sure represent all countries and age groups and it is the love of, or at least interest in, travel and far away places that keeps the mind young. Forget expensive creams and just never worry and always stay positive. A bit of travel helps a lot too
