M.S. SOCIETY AND THEIR RESOURCES

http://www.nationalmssociety.org/get-involved/programs-and-services/index.aspx

Living with MS means the road to wellness is more than treatment of the disease. Equally important are health and wellness strategies, a strong support network of family and friends, satisfying work and leisure activities, a meaningful place in the community, and adequate attention to one's inner self. The National MS Society offers a variety of programs and services to help you meet those needs.

Managing your MS and your overall health is very important when you are living with a chronic illness. The National MS Society offers programs to help you to live well with MS.

Questions about Your MS?

Living with MS can trigger a barrage of questions and the National MS Society has many avenues for answers.

  • I have questions about:
  • Newly diagnosed
  • Treatments
  • General information on MS
  • On-demand learning opportunities
Finding Solutions

Sometimes we all need just a little more help. The National MS Society offers many other types of assistance including financial assistance, scholarships, support around day to day concerns, and connection with others living with MS.

Help in finding a solution is only a phone call away. 1-800-344-4867.

Programs & Services

Programs and services from the National MS Society are available through your chapter.

Home :: About Us :

P&A/CAP System

The P&A / CAP System

The Protection and Advocacy (P&A) System and Client Assistance Program (CAP) comprise the nationwide network of congressionally mandated, legally based disability rights agencies. P&A agencies have the authority to provide legal representation and other advocacy services, under all federal and state laws, to all people with disabilities (based on a system of priorities for services). All P&As maintain a presence in facilities that care for people with disabilities, where they monitor, investigate and attempt to remedy adverse conditions. These agencies also devote considerable resources to ensuring full access to inclusive educational programs, financial entitlements, healthcare, accessible housing and productive employment opportunities. CAP agencies (many of which are housed within P&A offices) provide information and assistance to individuals seeking or receiving vocational rehabilitation (VR) services under the Rehabilitation Act, including assistance in pursuing administrative, legal and other appropriate remedies.

Community technology centers, regional organizations such as ILCTC, and the national Community Technology Centers’ Network (CTCNet) are working in mainstream community organizations and environments to ensure that everyone who might benefit becomes aware of available technology and has the information needed to obtain and use it successfully.www.ILCTC.org  www.CTCNet.org

Purpose:

This guide was written to provide technology resources that increase access to computers for people with disabilities. The focus here is on low-cost and no-cost on-line resources, organized by category. We believe they will be extremely useful for multiple audiences, primarily: 1) community-based organizations wanting to provide access to technology for people with disabilities; 2) individuals with disabilities or their family members; 3) service providers working with assistive technology.

The resources included here are easy to obtain and can provide options for people with disabilities. Testing these tools can give people an idea of what they can do with technology. For some people, these options will be enough to provide the access they need. For others, these tools will not be sufficient. They will need more sophisticated access tools in order to use a computer.

There are laws and funding channels designed to provide assistive technology tools and services within the education, rehabilitation, social security, and insurance systems. Many people with disabilities are eligible for services within one or more of these systems and we encourage people to check into all appropriate options.

Below are some useful information resources on how individuals can acquire technology. A few are relevant for organizations, as well.
