I found these ladybugs hibernating in my garage...I don't know if I should use a small towel or something to cover them up when the weather turns really cold.
I buy Mantis egg cases from the nursery. It is facinating to see them hatch, dozens of these little guys squirming their way to freedom. They are very pale when first hatched, this guy is a few hours old.

Photo was taken on 11-05-08 in Sunnyvale CA. May be the first ever taken of this species due to no recordings. My friend Jim noticed it and I quickly got my camera to snap this one off
I was able to locate a nest nearby my work..... and watched them come and go. Some always emerge and "stand guard' for a minute, then take off. It is interesting watch as they communicate with other too.
Photo was taken on 09-20-08 at the Harris Lass Historic Museum, Santa Clara, CA. Please note that the bee "tongue is not long to get to the nectar of the Four O'clock plant. It climb up to the base and by- passed the long entrance of the flower.
