Goats, pregnant and non-pregnant are used in horrible experiments for drugs and other tests that have no use for human care. Most often the goats are destroyed after the research is done. These are not wild animals but fully tame and loving animals who do not deserve to be torured just for expermental purposes. I received a reply from Scottish National Heritage telling me that they were killing the hedgehogs for their own good as it would be cruel to relocate them. The brutal treatment of companion, farmed and zoo animals in Serbia is coming to the attention of the world. I am horrified to witness man's lack of compassion, indiscriminate cruelty and the Serbian government's indifference and inaction regarding the criminal treatment of Serbian animals. This negative publicity will surely reverberate throughout the world and result in sanctions from civilized governments and concernedcitizens who are able to travel and spend tourist dollars. Surely, the Serbian gross national product depends in part on the influx of money from neighboring nations. I respectfully and urgently request that you take notice and action of this reprehensible situation which is fast resulting inthe deterioration of Serbian status within the global family. Put a stop tothe brutal, vicious killing of domesticated street animals by government officials, civil workers and ordinary citizens. The following was in my network messages: Cruelty of Animal Testing Every year, millions of animals suffer and die in painful tests to determine the safety of cosmetics and other products. Substances such as eye shadow and soap are tested on rabbits, rats, guinea pigs, dogs, and other animals, despite the fact that the test results don’t help prevent or treat human illness or injury. People often fail to give animals the respect and rights they deserve, they are treated as lifeless, unfeeling scientific creatures, that we discard at our own convenience. Some of these animals come from animal shelters and others even worse, some have been stolen directly from their own front yard. Imagine your pet one day being crammed into a cage with ten other animals waiting to die for numerous unreliable tests. People look at these animals being tested on as their own. They will realize how horrible it must be if it was there own pet. Before these animals die, they are routinely burned, scalded, poisoned, starved, given electric shocks, addicted to drugs, subjected to near freezing temperatures, dosed with radioactive elements, driven insane. If you call the shelter ONLY talk to Cheryl or Amy I am posting for another shelter......Their board of which the past Director is still on is suggesting to KILL ALL DOGS IN THIS SHELTER due to "KENNEL COUGH" only. They figure if they kill them all, close down for 2 weeks it will solve the problem. Amy and Cheryl who run the shelter DO NOT WANT this to happen!!!! They are begging for help. The board also feels that pregnant dogs should be euthanized too. Please help pull what you can and help who you can. Unfortunately - and heartbreakingly - they've also decided that rescuers have only two weeks to get the dogs out, and any dogs remaining at the track on May 14th will be euthanized. This is a monumental task because there are at least 500 dogs currently at the track. These are all young, healthy dogs, 2-4 years of age, who would make great family pets. Why is the track doing this? Greyhound racing is a business and because the track is no longer profitable, they're getting out. To us, dogs are cherished companions. To the greyhound racing industry, dogs are expendable commodities to be disposed of in whatever way is least expensive and most convenient when they aren't making money. We've committed to saving as many dogs as we possibly can in the next two weeks. We'll be working with an experienced greyhound rescuer who has been placing retired greyhounds for many years. She will be going to the track and bringing us dogs. As soon as we have more room, we'll do it again. We will repeat as many times as we can before May 14th. After May 14th, there will be no dogs left alive at the track. In order to save as many dogs as we can, we are going to try something we've never done before; sending as many as possible out into foster care by May 14th. Every time we send a dog into an adoptive home or a foster home, we can take another dog off the track. We will take the fostered dogs back into the Dakin Animal Shelter for adoption over the next few months as spaces open up for them - as long as they're off the track by May 14th, they'll be safe. a.. Greys are not hyper - they're actually couch potatoes! b.. They love to run - for about 5 minutes - in a safe, fenced area. c.. Greys spend most of their day snoozing and adore soft sleeping places and all the comforts in life. d.. They are actually very good dogs for apartments or small homes because of their low activity level. e.. They are very clean dogs, and in some ways are very catlike in their cleanliness and love of comfort. f.. Most greyhounds - including all the ones we'll be getting - can live with other dogs and cats, once they've been introduced, and actually love living with other animals. g.. They rarely bark and shed little. h.. In their life on the track, they live in crates for 22 hours per day, so most things in the 'real world' are a surprise to them. i.. They've never seen simple things such as: slippery floors (wood, tile); stairs; television; windows; cats; dogs who are not greyhounds! j.. They generally housebreak very easily because they're completely crate trained (they aren't housebroken because they've never been in a house, so they have to learn what a house is!). k.. They walk very, very politely on leash - they learn that at the track. l.. Greyhounds are very good companions for homes with gentle children because of their own gentle nature. This is a tragedy of enormous proportions, and we've decided to throw everything we've got into doing as much as we can. In the spring, young rabbits rely on their mothers for protection and nourishment, and if Casta del Sol proceeds as planned and kills mother rabbits in this shooting spree, the young bunnies will die slowly from dehydration and starvation. Over the last few weeks, Orange County People for Animals and the Animal Protection Institute have been working with Casta del Sol residents to persuade the city and the community's Board of Directors to cancel the cruel plan, and instead, accept the organizations' offer to help resolve this perceived wildlife conflict with an effective, humane program. Sadly, the pleas of compassionate Casta del Sol residents and animal activists have fallen on deaf ears—, and the community is set to proceed with the massacre on Sunday, May 1. Many greyhounds are either disgarded or put to death in the most horrific ways at the end of their racing years if they even make it as a racer. Greyhounds are shipped from Ireland to Spain in their thousands to face even worse conditions including being hung at the end of the hunting season or thrown into wells with people like myself picking up the pieces. Articles such as yours do a huge disservice to the thousands of rescues left to pick up the pieces of the greyhound industry by people who think greyhound racing is ‘just a bit of fun’ including trying to find homes for all these unwanted animals and footing the bills trying to save greyhounds such as the well publicised case a few months ago of Rusty, an ex racer who had his ears hacked off in an attempt to get rid of his ear tattoos and whom was then shot with a captive bolt pistol in the head and left for dead. The largest animal testing centre of Europe is located in the Netherlands. The Biomedical Primate Research Center (BPRC) keeps 1600 monkeys in their labs. They are locked up and have to undergo terrible things, in the name of 'science'. The BPRC is performing tests in the area of infection-illnesses (such as AIDS, hepatitis and malaria), xenotransplantation, radiation, tear gas (for self defence), chronic diseases and neurological abnormities.

Most of us still ignore the cruelty behind the fur industry. Minks, rabbits, foxes, lynx, chinchillas and other animals raised for their furs are forced to live their entire lives into filthy wire cages. Fur trapping is just as cruel. Leghold traps are used to capture wild animals, holding them tightly between their two metal jaws.

Even buying the tiniest fur trim on items and accessories such as purses, bikinis, sweatshirts, hats and boots encourages the cruel practices of the fur industry.

Tell Burberry that you won't buy their products until they adopt a permanant fur-free pledge.
