I have no doubt about the appalling massacres taking place in Syria but I don't know who or what to believe regarding the perpetrators. With increasing sanctions by Western nations, expulsion of diplomatic staff, the rhetoric about teetering on the edge of civil war: for goodness sake, it already is a civil war. And what could anyone expect when the police and military are not the only ones armed. Whenever a nation allows its civilians to bear arms against the state any malcontent can forment uprisings. With borders in the Middle East extremely porous (except for Israel) and the great tensions between tribal groups, "fellow travellers and sympathisers" from outside can certainly join the armed resistance. I just wish that NATO/ UN could broker some sort of peaceful arrangement rather than undermine the government of a sovereign state. Peace talks on the Arab/Israeli matter have been going on for decades with UN oversight (and US vetoes) with no outcome.
