I bet Runningfox is probably correct. Life as we know it here on earth is probably rare. All the more to cherish it and take care of it. No one can know anything for sure though.

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THEIR FABULOUS COMMENTS REALLY i have thoroughly enjoyed reading these posts1
the truth is out there
does anyone have any thoughts of zechariahs sitchins work ? on the anunaki?
I believe that there is intelligent life out there somewhere.
Infact, I tend to beleive that extratesterials came here and intervented with primates to create the human beings we are today.
Just because we elvolved with territorial feelings so strong that mankind could destroy each other doesn't mean that's true of all intelligent life in the universe.
I think we are projecting our own issues on to the rest of the universe that may be not be the case.
I do think that we, here on plamet earth are limited by our own brain capacity and our senses. What I am saying is that we can only see what we need to see for the survival of our species.
There may be other demensions of reality that we are not able to precieve ethe limitations of our brains and senses.
No, I think there is much more going on than meets the eye,,,, All the sightings and experiences people are having, I just think that humans are new, We are like the babies of civilizations compared to our galactic brothers and sisters!!!

On other planets. We haven't even scratched the surface of the Universe. How can anyone say there is or isn't. We are alive so I would say I feel there is many other forms of life out there in the vastness of space.
In the study of the Universe, science has shown that life occurs from a number of random factors. On the larger scale there is what is called "Happy cosmic accidents". Where if gravity or the nuclear force was even as much as 4% differant on either size in terms of force... then none of this would have happened. The Universe would have never formed. Other things such as the miniscule protons. If they were not the shape they were nor had the stability that they did... then once again.. No Universe and no Life.
On a smaller scale there is also the "Goldilocks Zone", where things are just right. From the orbit of the Sun and the planets, where if they were a little bit less circular and in sync collisions would occur. To the positioning of the Earth itself, a few degrees either way and life would have never had the chance to begin. Our Moon itself is in just the right place and size. The Moon and it's tidal forces played a huge part in the creation of life. If it were any differant then none of us would be here to read this (and I'd be really lonely..LOL). As it is the Moon because of it's "just right" placement is pushing itself away. In 2 billion years it will leave us and the Earth will become uninhabitable. Jupiter and the other giants are in the "just right" spot. Their gravitational powers save us from impacts with debris like the one that might have killed the dinosaurs. It doesn't keep them all away but if they weren't there then such impacts would be fairly regular and once again life would not have had a chance. So our even being here means that we all won the Universe's lottery.
Does this write out any chance for other life.. well no. We are discovering solar sytems that appear to have the "Goldilocks Zone" but they aren't hugely common. They do exist though and there are theories, such as the M theory that currently believes that life had no choice but to appear. That there are other Parallel Universes.. some where life never had a chance and some where life might well be rampant. As for other civilizations contacting us.. well they have to hang around long enough to become a civilization and then they have to find a way that we would understand to contact us. There are a lot of things that would hinder such chances. Einsteins speed limit that appears to be unbreakable, dark energies that apparently make up the bulk of the universe, and the sheer distance would all play a big part in it. However given the astounding odds that have occured here to create us it often frightens me how cavalier we treat life right here. So if it scares me... imagine how it might affect a next door neighbour and would they really want to come knocking?
A man said to the Universe; "Sir, I exist!"
"However," replied the Universe; "The fact has not created in me a sense of obligation" ...... Stephen Crane
"Damn the solar system. Bad light; planets too distant; pestered with comets; feeble contrivance; could make a better Universe myself" ...... Lord Jeffrey
I think it's arrogant beyond belief that carbon-based life forms are the only ones that count. There's life on all planets, it just doesn't look like us. There's life at all levels, from the highest spiritual to the densest physical. Life can't be killed and it doesn't begin or end, it just IS.
around the Earth and the many wonders that reside here, I find it hard to believe that there is no other life some where in the Universe. The Universe is endless. At this point we have not found any living being or organisms on any other planet but we really have only just begun to explore in depth because we now have technology that is far greater than 1969 when the Apollo 11 first landed on the moon. I feel that one day and maybe not in my life time or my Daughters life time they will find something....
Before bathyscapes went miles below the ocean no one supposed there could be life at such temperatures and pressures.
Hydrothermal vents are underwater oasis, providing habitat for many creatures that are not found anywhere else in the ocean. Large colonies of bizarre creatures which can survive toxic chemicals, high pressure and high temperatures, as well as total darkness, proliferate at the vents sites. These creatures depend on a completely different metabolism, and need neither oxygen nor solar energy.

He is expressing Himself in so many forms in this divine thought projection. We will meet each other and sing together and be one. First we have to end the crude system of exploitation on this planet. Nobody out there will take contact with this thought polluted place. It is a cosmic plan of universal welfare.
Just now it, and meditate on it. We will be as we think.
As far as life goes, no....... I suspect that there are numerous planets out there that have some form of life on them. Life seems to crop up in the most inhospitable places here on earth and given the size of the entire cosmos then it must have appeared elsewhere. The same random occurences that happened here surely occured on other planets. The odds would be in it's favour.
Is there intelligent life out there?
Well that is a differant matter. Intellgence depends on how you define it. Animals have intelligence as well, the question I quess would be...Are there other civilizations out there? There is the possibility that there may be no others. At some point there has to be a first civilization and a last one. We could be the only one at this point in time. As well in spite of how rapidly and quickly life pops up, it also dies equally easy and quick. At least 99.99% of everything that has ever lived on this planet is now extinct. So the problem is surviving all the possible catastrophes that can befall a planet and the life on it. It appears that in the whole span of the Earth's life we are the only "intelligent" species to have successfully made it to this level of sophistication. No other interplanetary life may have made it to a civilization state. The odds aren't real good for that, it is a wonder that we've made this far. So I don't think that there is other life out there rather I believe there may be and would love it if there were.
I don't think we are alone either. I heard of this theory saying aliens look like worms...my thought is they share none of human characteristics, so basically unimaginable. I also think the other beings have a sense that we don't, and that we have a sense that they don't.

I think there's One Life that lives ITSELF everywhere, through all the forms imaginable. So no, we're not alone, that would be hubris at his highest point to think that. After all, Humanity isn't the only expresion of that One Life. Each planet, each atom, each blade of grass, each galaxy and universe for as far as you can imagine, is that Life manifested, and we're connected to everything and everyone everywhere and everywhen. There are more life forms just on this planet that we can ever begin to qualify or quantify, and the same goes on into the cosmos.
No we are not alone. I think that some of the people on earth are not from here. Crazy? Think about it. Maybe the Chinise, maybe another cuture. I don't think we all are natatives of earth. I don't believe in little green men. But I think a race of people have come here from..lets say Mars. Mars was on the eve of distruction and so some escaped and made it here. I can go on all day with my thought on this. I also think that most of the ufo sightings are us playing around. I do think we know about other planets containing life. And that is why we are so interrested in sending probs out to Saturn and Mars. They just don't tell us the truth.
but to converse with an ant only takes simple communitcation but then again are we capable of simple communication?

My opinion:
Alone? Nope.
Sentient life forms? Self-awareness? Awareness of the Universe? Certainly.
But the chances of being able to communicate with them on any level are about as possible as us being able to converse intelligently with ants - and ants and humans are children of the same mother, Earth.
I don't know, perhaps someone already had this idea ...
When we look at the nature we see trees, snowflakes, sand, atoms and galxies etc... All those things exist in multiple quantaties - there is no thing in the world that is unique and just One/single. SO WHY THEN the humanity or planet earth our world would be different ?! Is it not part of the nature ?! There is got to be something almost the same, so definetely we are not alone.
Even if we are not alone, I would think that any other civilization out there would be too far away for us to know about any time soon. All we can do, for now, is speculate on the possibilities.

I am forever pure. What do I care who knows, What is known, Or how it is known? What do I care for knowledge? What do I care what is, Or what is not? I am forever still. What are joy or sorrow, Distraction or concentration, Understanding or delusion?
Our Earth has not always been a life-sustaining planet (in times before the primordial soup ?) , it has sheltered organisms for billions(?) of years, based on fossilized records. Given that water is the primary building block of life, pertaining to our worldly existence & if indeed, comets (large volumes of water vapor & carbon, among other gases) are the primary kickoff to life on Earth, by comet bombardment?
I would say, life existence as our own is not alone by the number of stars, but the number of comets near solar systems as ours, star Beta Pictoris for instance should raise an eyebrow!
However, must life exist as similar/identical to ours?
A silly thought…water being the main source to life.
If I were a humanoid plant capable of photosynthesis for a diet & sustaining nourishment, I would probably withstand hotter or colder conditions any human would be able to survive.
I don't
think we are alone because I think life is prevalent throughout the universe but
not in the form we are familiar with..I believe it is very possible life as we
know it is extremely rare..I don't believe there are many earth like planets in
the universe..For a planet to be earth like and have life forms that are like
ours it would require it to have liquid water and be in just the right orbit
around just the right type of star and it would need to have a single moon
situated in just the right never failing orbit to distribute the liquid to keep
water from being too cold or too warm over much of the surface of the
planet..The planet would have to be rotating at just the right speed and it
would need to be angled just right so there would be growing seasons.. There are
just so many variables that would have to come into play that I doubt life as we
know it here on earth exists any place else in our galaxy..I am not saying there
is no other life other than ours but I am saying I believe life as we know it
here on earth is extremely rare..
I agree. There are so many galaxies in the universe. The probability that one of those galaxies having life is high. The life just may not look like our own, or communicate like us.
Nope I do not think we are alone! August 19, 2005 5:58 AM
Nope, I do not think we are alone! I think that way of thinking is pure self-centeredness. And I am glad that we are not alone. peace--ginger

well I agree with everyone. Here is where I see a problem with the way humans are that even if we found other life out there our curiosity and greed would exploite and possible ruin that life or humans would mess with the with the wrong species and they stand there ground and defend themselves from our invasion and we get wiped out.... Scary thought there are times when humans should not be so nosey but our curiosity gets the best of us.... I think the old cliche' "Curiosity kills the cat" should be changed to "Curiosity kills the human" just my ramblings......
do you think we are alone? August 18, 2005 4:58 AM
I think it would be very arrogant of us to believe that in the vastness of space that we are the only living planet. Just because we do not have concrete proof does not mean that there isn't anyone/anything out there. And would we know if they were already amongst us? I think it is a good thing to look up at the starlit sky and wonder on these things.

Gazing at the stars into the fathomless of the outer sea, one can see the sparkle & distinct colorization a star emits. However, viewing satellites revolving among other systems that may sustain life can be quite difficult to spot…like a flashlight beaming from one dark end towards your face, one can sometimes not tell what may lurk about the light…oh, but so many stars!!!!
Do you think we are alone? August 17, 2005 11:19 PM
When I sit and look at the stars and how large the universe really is, for me I have to say no way. For me I think there are other beings on other planets that survive. What are your thoughts?
