Yep, FDR did know Pearl Harbor was going to be attacked, but the reason he let it go forward was because of the isolationist tendencies of the leaders in this country, and he knew the only way he could galvanize the country to join in the "European" war was for us to be attacked. I think that's what Bush et.al, and his neo-cons were looking for when they knew that 9/11 was in the works. They wanted another Pearl Harbor so they could go to war, but it wasn't a war to keep the world from being conquered by a madman, it was a war so that his, Bush's cronies could make billions on the suffering of others.

I grew up watching the Gorton's fisherman
commercials, and listening to the jingle, "Trust the Gorton's fisherman." You
don't even want to know how many fish sticks I ate during my childhood. But
today, I know I CAN'T trust the Gorton's fisherman, because he's been supporting
whale slaughter since 2001.
Gorton's of Gloucester is now a wholly owned
subsidiary of a Japanese whaling company. Each year, Gorton's parent company
kills hundreds of whales in the name of "scientific research," thanks to a
loophole in the international ban on commercial whaling. This year it has
announced plans to double the number of whales it kills, including the
endangered fin whale, and next year it plans to slaughter endangered humpback
whales too.
The disaster in New Orleans put a spotlight on poverty and
racial injustice in the United States in a way we haven’t
seen for decades. As the rebuilding effort begins, there have
been deliberate attempts to address both issues in the
committees created to oversee the process.
Unfortunately, it’s the same old
story for women and girls: Invisibility in the media and
barely a seat at the decision-making tables.
Read more about lessons learned from previous disasters and
the dangers of ignoring the needs of women and girls in our new
guest column from Elaine Enarson, an expert on gender and
disaster.
And help us shine an international media spotlight on the
absence of women and girls.
Join us to call on the Associated Press to ask Mayor Ray
Nagin: Where are the women?
Sincerely,
Chris Grumm President, Women’s Funding Network
P.S. During October, The
Women's Funding Network, and our newest project U.S. Women Without
Borders, are working with Lifetime Television to increase focus on human
trafficking. Lifetime Television is airing an amazing
mini-series on this issue October 24th and 25th at 9 PM ET/PT.
You can take the first step to addressing this horrific reality
by hosting a house party to watch the show. Please join us
to shine our spotlight on this issue as it broadcasts across the
country.
THIS IS FOR US RESIDENTS AND SEEMS IMPORTANT TO ME SO I'M PASSING IT ON.
Subject: Gold-mining Co. wants to destroy Glaciers!
Message: We, the Undersigned, endorse the following petition: Say “No” to the project “Pascua-Lama”. Target: John McDonough, Vicepresident, Barrick Sponsor: Gabriela Puig van Oosten
Say
“No” to the project “Pascua-Lama”. A project of the transnational
enterprise Barrick Gold, is a clear menace to some glaciers in a region
of Los Andes. Some of the actions are move three glaciers in the
frontier between Chile and Argentina, to extract 547 tons of gold.
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/946839131 ------------------------------------------ This will poison whole eco-systems! The
Jewelers of America are putting pressure on gold-mining companies to
use ecologically safer methods of extraction. Tiffany ran a full-page
ad in the NY Times asking them to. No response from the big
conglomerates so far! Go to I think it's GreenKarat for more info. Please
sign this petition! This is the beginning of a whole movement to rein
in the destructive gold-mining business. Buy your gold jewelry
second-hand; or, have old gold jewelry melted down and re-fashioned!
Until the mining industry CLEANS UP ITS ACT! It takes an average of 3
tons of usually-toxic waste -- to make just one gold wedding ring!

THANK YOU for taking action and sending British Columbia Premier Campbell a fax
urging him to pass the Great Bear Agreements!
Over 30,000
people in the U.S., Canada, Europe and other parts of the globe have either sent
a fax or e-mail to the Premier. Unfortunately, the Premier
has now failed to pass the agreements by September 30th, as he had promised.
We need to keep the momentum going and keep the pressure on the British Columbia
government , so that real change occurs on the ground .
Please send this e-mail to your friends and family, and have
them contact the Premier too.
One of the world's most rare and endangered
forests, Canada's Great Bear Rainforest, is still facing an uncertain future.
For the past five years, environmentalists, industry, First Nations and local
communities have worked collaboratively to reach agreements on the fate of the
rainforest, which would protect one-third of the forest from logging, transform
logging practices to a sustainable system of harvesting, and create a stable
future for the communities who depend on the forest and seas of this magnificent
coast.
But these consensus agreements only protect the forest once the
British Columbia government turns them into law. Unless the government of
British Columbia acts, this delicate consensus and the protection of globally
significant ecosystems are at risk.
Now is the time for the Government of
British Columbia to finally save this rainforest. Please send a fax to BC
Premier Campbell and ask him why he missed his personal commitment to pass the
agreements, and when concerned citizens and people who care about this global
treasure can expect to see real concrete change on the ground. Go to http://www.forestethics.org/campbellfax
to send your fax.

Thornborough Henges petition September 26, 2005 8:22 AM
The Thornborough Henges have been suggested by Newcastle University as being aligned to Orion.
Despite the three super henges (earth circles) at Thornborough (North Yorkshire, England) appearing to mirror Orion's Belt in a manner similar to that claimed for the Great Pyramids of Giza archaeologist Dr Jan Harding says this is the least compulsive of the evidence he has uncovered. The archaeologist has claimed a further two alignments provide strength to the suggestion that Thornborough may well have been one of the world's earliest major monuments aligned to the starts.
The Thornborough Henges ancient monument complex is being quarried for gravel. The quarry sits within the complex and has asked the local planning authority to expand further into the site.
One of the biggest problems for campaigners is the hidden nature of such ancient remains - some of which date back 8,000 years and as such only the most fragmentory evidence is left.
Please sign this petition to stop quarrying within a mile of Thornborough Henges. Remember, this complex comprises of two fantastically large monument - each a mile in length. Given that size and the importance of the site, a one mile no quarry zone is not too much to ask for.
Lisa B. ACTION ALERT: Improve Gas Mileage September 17, 2005 11:42 AM
With
oil companies raising prices to record levels in the wake of Hurricane
Katrina, consumers are beginning to do their part to reduce oil
consumption. It's time for Congress to take action as well by
requiring cars and trucks to go farther on a gallon of gasoline. Even
Senators formerly opposed to increasing Corporate Average Fuel Economy
standards (CAFE) are now expressing interest in requiring cars and
trucks to go farther on a gallon of gas.
Please urge your
senators to take action by requiring cars and trucks to use America's
technological know-how to get 40 miles per gallon. Then ask your
family and friends to help by forwarding this email to them.
Each year, instead of burning less gas, new cars are spewing even more global warming pollution into the air.
The damage from global warming is more visible every day, and emissions from cars are a major contributor. But automakers are blocking progress on global warming, fighting state and national efforts to curb global warming pollution.
Send an email - ask major automakers to support, not block, policies that reduce global warming pollution.
Holly C. Campaign for Cooperation in Space September 03, 2005 3:36 PM
This is one I have cross-posted, as it is very important to the flora and fauna of earth!
If the United Nations General Assembly fails approve a Space Preservation Treaty by October 24, 2005,
then the General Assembly shall convene a Space Preservation Treaty
Conference to ban all space-based weapons and warfare in space.
Who
We Are: Campaign for Cooperation in Space is a Coordinated
International Network for Breakthrough, Enrolling U.N. Member
Governments, Non-Governmental Organizations, Media, and the People to
Implement A Permanent Ban on Weapons in Space.
Our Vision:
Together, we can put an end to the highly profitable war industry by
putting our differences aside, uniting and working together by
promoting win-win solutions to decision makers. Before our perpetual
war economy expands into space, we must ban space weapons. A
coordinated strategy to get world leaders to sign a treaty banning
space weapons will put a lid on the war economy and result into a
cooperative, democratic Space Age society that goes beyond fear and
honors all life, instead of destroying it. With today's technology, a
peace based economy can be just as profitable as a war based economy.
WE
the People of Earth hereby Petition the United Nations General Assembly
to have a Space Preservation Treaty permanently banning all space-based
weapons and warfare in space ready for signature by all U.N. Member
Nations by United Nations Day, 2005 [October 24, 2005].
IF the
United Nations General Assembly fails approve a Space Preservation
Treaty by October 24, 2005, then the General Assembly shall convene a
Space Preservation Treaty Conference to ban all space-based weapons and
warfare in space, as Canada did in the 1997 Ottawa Land Mines Treaty
Conference, to be held in Victoria-Vancouver, B.C. in June 2006, as
part of the World Peace Forum 2006.
This petition is in need of 7,000 more signatures before October!
You
can find out more information about Space Preservation and the Treaty
at The Institute for Cooperation in Space’s website at: http://www.peaceinspace.com
