When my old dog Sue lost her companion, she laid, devastated and morose for days. This didn't start once she began to notice he wasn't there after a few days, it started immediately that he was put down.
I know she was grieving and sat with her for a good while helping to take her mind of it.
Whilst I've observed animals accepting grief more easily than we do, I don't agree with the arguement that only humans can feel emotional pain...why do we think we have a monopoly on things...we're all mammals.
Callie, my horse, has shown happiness, anger, fear and worry.
In the past, scientists convinced people that animals couldn't think, make decisions or even feel pain....and the church heads convinced populations that animals had no sould... for modern animal people, who understand and/or observe animals these beliefs are unthinkable and I believe that 'so-called' experts will be proved wrong again about animals feeling emotions.
Did you know that when baby calves are taken away from dairy cows, the cows moo, call and are very emotionally distressed for days?
Have you ever seen a mother cat calling for its kittens after they have been removed from it's home?
Have you ever seen a dog hang it's head low when it feels rejected?
Have you ever seen a horse, whose owner has lost interest, look disappointed when other horses owner come to take them out of the field?
I have seen all these things, so I know that animals feel emotional pain.

I am so glad I found this group, I have a few things I would like to share and th9is is the first one.
I read ones way back when I was young that human contained four basic life-forces. The Material life-force, The Vegetable life force, the Animal life force and the Human life-force. These forces enable us to live and survive here.
When I read this it made sense to me that we human should be able to understand very thing basic on earth, like our plants needs and existence, our animals existence and awareness because we have it in us.
The animal force in us makes us want to have children and care for them, make us "hunt" for food and fight to survive.
I have lost the book I found this in but I will see if I can find it again.
This taught me to belive that animals have the same feelings spectrum as us. If this is so, my God a lot of animals suffer, the only way I think they survive is their ability to surrender to there situation.
