Into the light...
All this talk of religion, but it's how you live your life that is the all-important thing.
If you set out each day to do all the goodness and kindness that you can, and to do no harm to man or beast, then you are walking the highest path.
And when your time is up, if you can leave the earth a better place than you found it, then yours will have been a life well lived.

Out of the night that covers me
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul
- William Ernest Henley
Is there anyone upon the earth who is glad that you have lived?
(From 'The Shining Paths' by Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki)
You came into the world with nothing and you'll leave it with nothing - except the indelible record of your conduct in this life, for good or ill.
The real voyage of discovery consists
not in seeking new landscapes,
but in having new eyes.
Whatever you are going through , tell yourself you can handle it m, compared with what others have been through you are fortunate.

"We are not human beings having a spiritual experience, but spiritual beings having a human experience."
In everyone's life at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for these people who rekindle the inner spirit.

I am the voice of the voiceless;
Through me the dumb shall speak,
Till the deaf world's ear be made to hear
The wrongs of the wordless weak.
From street, from cage and from kennel,
From stable and zoo, the wail
Of my tortured kin proclaims the sin
Of the mighty against the frail.
Oh, shame on the mothers of mortals
Who have not stooped to teach
Of the sorrow that lies in dear, dumb eyes,
The sorrow that has no speech.
The same force formed the sparrow
That fashioned man the king;
The God of the whole gave a spark of soul
To furred and to feathered thing.
And I am my brother's keeper
And I will fight his fight,
And speak the word for beast and bird,
Till the world shall set things right.

"For Attractive lips, speak words of kindness, For lovely eyes, seek out

There's a breathless hush in the Close to-night
Ten to make and the match to win
A bumping pitch and a blinding light,
An hour to play and the last man in.
And it's not for the sake of a ribboned coat,
Or the selfish hope of a season's fame,
But his Captain's hand on his shoulder smote --
'Play up!, play up! and play the game!'
The sand of the desert is sodden red,
Red with the wreck of a square that broke;
The Gatling's jammed and the Colonel dead,
And the regiment blind with dust and smoke.
The river of death has brimmed his banks,
And England's far and Honour a name,
But the voice of a schoolboy steadies the ranks:
'Play up!, play up! and play the game!'
This is the word that year by year,
While in her place the School is set,
Every one of her sons must hear,
And none that hears it dare forget.
This they all with a joyful mind
Bear through life like a torch in flame
And falling fling to the host behind --
'Play up!, play up! and play the game!'
- Sir Henry Newbolt
* The first verse refers to the renowned English public school, Clifton College, and the wonderful English game of cricket.
The second verse is based on the battle of Abu Klea in 1885. (The 'square' mentioned is a battle square, a British military formation.)
Vitai Lampada is one of the greatest inspirational poems ever written. It's all about responsibility; about not letting the side down.
The core message is that whilst we are all individuals at the same time we are all part of a greater unit - be it family, friends, colleagues etc. and when the need arises we have to set aside all sense of ego and self-interest and do right by our fellows.
To use Newbolt's analogies, be it carrying the day on the sports field, or showing courage in a desperate time, we have a duty to others. You owe it to them. Moreover, you owe it to yourself.
A well-known author and poet was working and vacationing on the southern coast of Spain. One morning very early, he was walking along the beach; the sun was just rising. While enjoying the beauty around him, he glanced down the beach and saw a lone figure dancing about.
Fascinated by this other person celebrating the day that was about to dawn, he moved closer. As he came nearer, he realized that the young man was not dancing , but in one graceful movement was picking objects up from the beach and tossing them out into the sea. As he approached the young man, he saw that the objects were starfish.
"Why in the world are you throwing starfish into the water?"
"If the starfish are still on the beach when the tide goes out and the sun rises higher in the sky, they will die" replied the young man as he continued tossing them out to the sea.
"That's ridiculous! There are thousands of miles of beach and millions of starfish. You can't believe that what you are doing could possibly make a difference!"
The young man picked up another starfish, paused thoughtfully and remarked as he tossed it out into the waves, "It makes a difference to this one."

Harry Wheatcroft, probably the most celebrated rose grower says, " He who would grow good roses, must have roses in his heart."
And he is a pacifist "I deplore beyond all measure the thousands of millions spent to create implements to destroy mankind. With all that money everybody in the world could grow roses. The world could be made so beautiful, if only people..."
Yes, if only people had roses in their hearts, there would be no more wars, no more misery, just beauty and goodness.

The other day, walking along the Westminster Embankment, I picked up a little stone or pebble, that had perhaps fallen from some lorry carrying a load of gravel. Find your heart, feel your heart, ..........then it begins!
A man was sleeping one night in his cabin when suddenly his room filled with light, and God appeared. The Lord told the man he had work for him to do, and showed him a large rock in front of his cabin. The Lord explained that the man was to push against the rock with all his might. So, this the man did, day after day. For many years he toiled from sun up to sun down, his shoulders set squarely against the cold, massive surface of the unmoving rock, pushing with all of his might. Each night the man returned to his cabin sore and worn out, feeling that his whole day had been spent in vain. Since the man was showing discouragement, the Adversary (Satan) decided to enter the picture by placing thoughts into the weary mind: "You have been pushing against that rock for along time, and it hasn't moved." Thus, he gave the man the impression that the task was impossible and that he was a failure. These thoughts discouraged and disheartened the man. Satan said, "Why kill yourself over this? Just put in your time, giving just the minimum effort; and that will be good enough." That's what the weary man planned to do, but decided to make it a matter of prayer and to take his troubled thoughts to the Lord. "Lord," he said, "I have labored long and hard in your service, putting all my strength to do that which you have asked. Yet, after all this time, I have not even budged that rock by half a millimeter. What is wrong? Why am I failing? The Lord responded compassionately, "My friend, when I asked you to serve Me and you accepted, I told you that your task was to push against the rock with all of your strength, which you have done. Never once did I mention to you that I expected you to move it. Your task was to push. And now you come to Me with your strength spent, thinking that you have failed. But, is that really so? Look at yourself. Your arms are strong and muscled, your back sinewy and brown; your hands are calloused from constant pressure, your legs have become massive and hard. Through opposition you have grown much, and your abilities now surpass those which you used to have. True, you haven't moved the rock. But your calling was to be obedient and to push and to exercise your faith and trust in My wisdom. That you have done. Now I, my friend, will move the rock." At times, when we hear a word from God, we tend to use our own intellect to decipher what He wants, when actually what God wants is just a simple obedience and faith in Him. By all means, exercise the faith that moves mountains, but know that it is still God who moves the mountains. When everything seems to go wrong ... just P.U.S.H.! When the job gets you down ... just P.U.S.H.! When people don't react the way you think they should .. just P.U.S.H.! When your money is "gone" and the bills are due ... just P.U.S.H! When people just don't understand you... just P.U.S.H.! P= Pray U= Until S= Something H= Happens Pass this on to all the loved ones and friends who may need it; they may get it just in time. Truly, great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget!
A true friend is one of life's greatest blessings
...but to have a friend, you must be a friend.
And this is a war story. When the remnants (of the regiment) got back to their trenches, one young soldier discovered that his pal was missing. He asked his officer if he might go out into no-man's-land to look for him.
The officer said, "Yes, you may go, but it isn't worth it."
The boy went, and in a little time returned mortally wounded.
Before he died he said to his officer, 'It was worth it, sir, for when I reached him he said "I knew you'd come." '
That is friendship. Real friendship.

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Nobody achieved anything without thought, often long and hard thought, yet all too often we see people acting thoughtlessly, refusing to think things through beforehand.

Religion is service and service is religion. All else does not matter. When the physical body falls away all the creeds over which for so long human beings have fought and and strived are shown to be empty and vain, meaningless and purposeless, for they have not aided the growth of the soul by one iota. About 5 years ago, I asked myself what my passion was. I did not have one. After reflecting on that for a few weeks, I decided to start promoting electric and plug-in hybrid cars, and founded a non-profit, http://www.4evriders.org. About a year ago I decided promote happiness as well and founded http://www.halffull.tv. Last week I finally joined care2.com, founded by Deepak Chopra, my role model for almost 5 years. He and Wayne Dyer changed my life and said one should a passion.
Looking back, I made the right decision and my life, as a result, is more fulfilling. Now my problem is finding enough time for my passion. I watch much less TV except for occasional professional sports and PBS.
Do you have one?.

Human beings have two operating systems which are complete opposites of each other. Selfishness and love. We are born into the operating system of selfishness, the domain of Satan but are given the opportunity to choose the system of love, the domain of God. We are reborn spiritually into God's domain when we confess our sins and accept forgiveness given us by Jesus Christ who paid the price for us at Calvary. The love of God is the only power that is able to drive selfishness from our lives.
