Call members of the Senate in a grassroots effort to support Cape Wind!
Cape Wind, a proposed offshore wind farm that would reduce the threat of global warming, is under attack in Congress. If successful, this attack would set back much-needed efforts to advance wind power.<DIR> <DIR>
The project would be the first large offshore wind farm in the United States, and it has the potential to prove wind a viable energy source to American investors, politicians and the public. It is a crucial project in establishing America's economic and environmental leadership to combat global warming.
But the Cape Wind project is under grave threat by a proposed amendment to a bill now making its way through Congress. The amendment would require the Coast Guard to promulgate new rules for assessing navigation impacts of offshore wind energy structures. The provision then requires the prohibition of siting any offshore wind farm within 1 ˝ nautical miles of a shipping channel or ferry route-even though experience with siting wind farms around the world suggests that such a large buffer is unnecessary, and even though the Coast Guard and other agencies are already required to consider navigational impacts of offshore wind projects.
Take action today to stop the amendment to the Coast Guard Reauthorization Act of 2005 (H.R. 889)!
Make a quick phone call to the Senators reviewing this provision, and express your support of renewable alternative energy projects like Cape Wind. If you are a constituent of any of the Senators listed below, your phone call is especially important.
