For every disturbing story you hear--Alaskan wolves gunned down, legislators pushing to drill for oil in the Arctic Refuge—there’s more that don’t always make the news. For example, did you know that the congressman who is on the Endangered Species Act like a pit bull is now nipping at NEPA, the bedrock law of environmental protection?  Have you heard about the Walden Bill? It would allow private timber companies to salvage what’s left  in wild forests during the critical recovery period after a fire or other natural disaster? And are you aware of the drought of dollars plaguing the Farm Bill, the main source of funding for projects to protect wildlife and habitat on private lands? Read more about these developing stories.

Bald Eagle Protect the Act That Helped Save Bald Eagles

Even as the national media trumpets the triumphant recovery of bald eagles, some in our nation’s capital are pushing for changes that would undermine the law that helped save them, the Endangered Species Act. Late last year, the House of Representatives narrowly passed Representative Richard Pombo’s (R-CA) “Wildlife Extinction Bill” that would gut protections that benefit our wildlife, habitat, and our communities. Now it’s the Senate’s turn to consider the fate of our wolves, sea otters, panthers and other endangered wildlife. Tell your Senators to say “Yes!” to saving our most endangered critters.
