The best unconditional gift you can give would be to sign all the petitions. Even if you don't believe in some of the "causes" or aren't into petition signing, this year why not do it anyway???  What's the worst that can happen?

Please sign if you care .....!!!

    4. Darien's Rainforest Power line plan December 29, 2005 TAKE ACTION
Short sighted energy policy threatens regional ecosystem, security and
    indigenous rights

** This alert is being sent from Ecological Internet's newest offering --
    the Rainforest Portal at --

Panama and Colombia are planning to construct an electricity transmission
line to link their power grids through the remote Darien Gap rainforest -
a 10,000-square-mile swath of until now largely impenetrable jungle on the
border of Central and South America. The Darien Gap hosts more than 900
different mammals and birds, including endangered species such as the
spectacled bear and puma, along with over 2,000 plant species. This will
require cutting a path at least 130 feet wide through virgin rainforest
    largely within Panama.

    industrial rainforest timber harvesting model

Insist Colombian government not change forestry laws to follow failed
    industrial rainforest timber harvesting model

A new destructive Forestry Law proposed in Colombia (Ley Forestal) would
cause much damage to Colombia's natural ecosystems by putting rainforests
into the hands of commercial interests. Colombia’s forests are to be
given over to the same companies that have razed the tropical forests of
South-east Asia and threaten virtually all remaining large rainforests
wherever they are found. Colombia is a mega-diversity country in terms of
biodiversity with large tracts of intact rainforests.

    6. End to the Cruel Cavalcade of Cali

In the Cavalcades of Cali- Colombia annually horses are mistreated, hurt and killed by drunk and irresponsable riders at the Fair of Cali. Luckily lawyer Carlos Urresty-Councilman of Cali wants to end this cruel celebration until the life of humans and animals is respected.

Please sign to save primates from vivisection! May 11, 2006 11:47 AM

Primate experimentation in the United States is out of control. In the last ten years the number of primate experiments funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has increased by 76%. Statistics based on data published by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) reveal that primate experimentation in the U.S. has reached an all time high with over 120,000 of our closest relatives suffering and dying in laboratories during the last two years.

Repetition is rampant among NIH-funded projects. Currently 170 National Institutes of Health projects study neural information processing in macaque monkeys. 75 grants fund examinations of cocaine in primates. 70 experiments examine vision in macaque monkeys. These experiments continue for decades wasting millions of tax dollars and victimizing primates for an entire lifetime.

We must all continue to work together to insure continued progress for animals in laboratories.

There are over two hundred primate laboratories in the
U.S. If we are to change the fate of primates within these many facilities we will need the support of activists across the United States. Please contact us ASAP to get involved in this crucial campaign
[ send green star]  [ accepted]

    Primates possess many qualities which
were once considered solely human attributes. The central nervous system of Primates and humans is organized in almost the same way, and there are similarities between the social behavior, emotional needs and intellectual capabilities of humans and other Primates. Primates demonstrate the ability to reason, to exhibit friendship and altruism, to suffer fear and stress.

UK and EU legislation has been partially expanded to supposedly protect their specific requirements in the laboratory and afford them a 'higher' status than other animal species under Directive 86/609/EEC.  The reality is, however, that this legal provision does not prevent thousands of primates each year enduring terrible pain, suffering and death in the laboratory.  . Experiments that would be unthinkable if performed on human subjects should also be considered morally unacceptable when carried out on our genetic cousins.

Researchers use primates as 'models' of human diseases on which the development and progression of such diseases can be monitored and treated. However primates, like other animals, make poor 'models' and attempting to extrapolate test results from one species to another is a fundamentally flawed research methodology. Despite their similarities, there are also many significant differences between humans and others Primates.

The fundamental flaw underlying the research of human diseases in primates is that researchers can only attempt to artificially induce similar superficial symptoms of human diseases in Primates, which is very different from studying a naturally occurring disease in a biologically relevant animal i.e. a human patient.

Primates who are removed from their normal habitat, deprived of environmental stimulants and social interaction, make poor 'models' on which to record the 'natural' development of disease or infection. Like human beings, primates react very differently to disease or illness depending on their physical and psychological states.

The reality is, despite what the research industry would have us believe, primates do not provide a reliable 'model' of the human being. After decades of research on primates, scientists have repeatedly failed to make significant breakthroughs in fully understanding the onset and progression of HIV or AIDS, cot death, epilepsy, Parkinson's or Alzheimer's disease, or cancer - all human conditions which have been thoroughly, though pointlessly, explored through research on Primates.

ACTION ALERT: Save Rainforests in Uganda December 15, 2006 11:15 AM

ACTION ALERT: Save Rainforests in Uganda 10:16 AM
Protest Plans to Destroy Uganda's Few Remaining Rainforests for

Rainforest Portal, a project of Ecological Internet, Inc.
    December 15, 2006

Let the Ugandan President and Parliament know rainforests and
their ecological services are more valuable than sugar and oil
    palm production

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni is pursuing legally dubious
plans to destroy much of Uganda's last few rainforests to grow
palm oil and sugar cane crops. Uganda has long been facing a
deforestation crisis, with forests covering 20 percent of Uganda
40 years ago, but now just covering seven percent. Loss of
forest cover in Uganda has had devastating ecological impacts
which will be intensified by the proposed projects.
Deforestation has been directly responsible for declining levels
of waters in Lake Victoria and the River Nile, resulting in a
scarcity of drinking water and reduction in hydroelectric energy
production. The whole matter seems to reflect a desperate power
grab by the President to reward cronies under false and illusory
promises of industrialization. The government has no legal
mandate to give out constitutionally protected forest reserves
to be cut down by private companies. Please contact President
Yoweri Museveni, the entire Ugandan parliament, and Ugandan
ministries and embassies and insist that these projects be
abandoned, and Uganda's remaining rainforest strictly protected
as ecological reserves while restoring forests where they
    historically occurred.

Congratulate Al Gore on the Nobel Peace Prize October 12, 2007 2:02 PM

    Friday October 12, 2007

Congratulate Al Gore on the Nobel Peace Prize

    Target: Al Gore

    Sponsor: Care2

Today, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Al Gore and the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for their work to raise awareness about the threat of global warming.

With his passion and hard work, Al Gore has demonstrated that committed citizens can make a difference. He has inspired millions to stand together against one of the biggest challenges of our time.

This year's Nobel selection sends a strong message that to achieve peace we need to live in harmony with one another and with the environment. By stopping the destructive effects of global warming, we are not only preventing future conflicts ignited by lack of resources, but we are also fighting for our own survival.

Please take a few minutes to sign our petition to say "Congratulations!" to Al Gore for this remarkable achievement and urge him to continue his critical work to fight global warming!

“NO MORE TIGER RANCHES!” ~ Put an end to unchecked cruelty, neglect, and lonely death of homeless cats and kittens ~ Prosecute Felony and Misdemeanor ANIMAL ABUSE in The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and everywhere else

In March 2008, Allegheny Sheriff’s Deputies, accompanied by American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PSPCA) humane enforcement officers, executed search warrants that revealed a nightmare of cruelty at the Tarentum, Pennsylvania, “Tiger Ranch” cattery. (See Tiger Ranch Investigative Video:
Suffering, disease-ridden survivors were filmed as they staggered among the stiff corpses of their companions, unable to eat or drink with their ulcerated mouths, or breath through their mucus-choked airways. (Sources: “Tiger Ranch Stuns Vet; ‘Never Saw Conditions Like This’,” WTAE TV-4 (ABC),; “Tiger Ranch Supplemental Video,”

Those cats and kittens beyond suffering were found jammed in freezers, bulldozed into shallow graves, or laying where they fell, dead, in their food, litter boxes, trailers, or beneath the open sky.

Hundreds of animals were imported from distant states; fine, adoptable cats who arrived in excellent health, only to deteriorate, suffer, and die in the frigid Pennsylvanian Piedmont. (Source: “Sick Cats Came To Tiger Ranch From Several States,” WPXI TV-11 (NBC),

The Tiger Ranch proprietor was arrested, charged with 593 criminal counts of animal cruelty.  Arraigned in July 2008, the suspect faces trial in January 2009.

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the County of Allegheny, must take measures to ensure such grievous atrocities are never again perpetrated against blameless domestic animals or livestock within their borders.

Be It Therefore RESOLVED, that the Pennsylvanian Commonwealth and Allegheny County must affirm and reinforce existing cruelty statutes, and propose such new criminal statutes that will enable felony animal cruelty charges against any party that perpetrates grave harm against harmless domestic animals or livestock; and

Be it Further RESOLVED, that the law enforcement authorities of the Pennsylvanian Commonwealth, Allegheny County, independent authorities of the ASPCA, the PSPCA, and all relevant animal cruelty law enforcement authorities, should be granted the fullest and broadest authorities to search, investigate, and terminate grave and intolerable instances of animal cruelty, neglect, and epidemic disease; and

Be it Further RESOLVED, that legitimate, not-for-profit, “No-Kill” organizations and rescue entities be accorded the support and recognition they deserve, and be in no way tainted by association with the Catastrophe in Tarentum.

As District Judge Susan Blaschak aptly observed, “In the absence of duty, care, food, water and helping the animals get to it ... this rises to the level of torturous conduct,” (Source: “Cat Shelter Operator Ordered to Stand Trial,” Pittsburgh Post-Gazette,
