Give me ONE example of an animal that's gone extinct as a result of cats. You can't. When I tried, I got a wonderful set of myths and facts about feral cats in, of all places, Australia!!!
Hammy: The most extreme example is the extinction of the flightless Stephen Island wren, which was caused by one pet cat that was introduced onto an island off New Zealand by a lighthouse keeper (Greenway 1967).
Michelle: Which animals have gone extinct, as a result of cat predation? And when did this happen?

The only flightless perching bird known in New Zealand, the Stephens Island Wren, was discovered and soon after eliminated by a lighthouse keeper's cat in the late 1800s. Just 17 specimens of the little bird were ever collected.
The bird was discovered and then eliminated...sould like more than 1 cat was to blame. Nobody ever saw that bird until a cat was introduced?
Not enough proof or evidence to state that the cat decimated the entire species. I suppose cats are responsible for the Dodo as well? No proof a cat didn't do it...must have been a cat. Carrier Pigeons in the US...wasn't the war that made them extinct. A cat ate one once and then they disappeared.
The Fox Gets The Blame While The Cat Gets The Game
Pat Quinn, Director Emeritus, Founder, The Zoo in Gulf Breeze How many birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians do domestic cats kill each year in the U.S.?
The estimates indicate that more than 77 million cats live in our country as household pets, but only 35% live indoors at all times. This leaves millions of cats free to kill wildlife at will. In addition (12 million in our state of Florida) are feral animals that roam our cities, farmlands, forests, beaches and urban areas.
Here are a few facts that have been reported by researchers on cats in the U.S.: • 19.6% of 1,976 prey killed by 78 outdoor cats were birds. (University of Wisconsin-1/04) • Cats are the reason for elimination of 8 bird species on islands. • The total eradication of 41 species of birds in New Zealand alone. • Cats in the Marion Islands killed some 450,000 island birds each year prior to the cat eradication program. • Cats have caused severe damage on the Galapagos Islands.
The rest of the article is here. This site is managed by exotic cat owners, that advocate proper cat care, not feral cats.
I only signed in this group to tell you that you have no right to accuse any animal of the extinction of another!!! There's only ONE exception: MAN. This is the only animal that thretens everything!!! You don't have the right to interfere in the natural selection! Protecting some animals by killing others is not a solution! Anyway, you won't bring that bird back by killing all the cats!... Cats are felines, predators by nature. They have the exactly same rights as any other animal on this planet. If you personally hate cats, it's your own problem.
ALL ANIMALS HAVE TO BE PROTECTED! Somebodyelse, for sure, loves the animals you hate... Mind your own business and stop thinking that you can change the nature of things! The planet is big enough for all of us.
You should stop fishing for fun... Killing animals of any kind is not a sport. If you're into sports, go bungee-jumping...
