Please help to protect Australia's fragile environment from the combined scourge of Equus caballus and ignorance.

I am trying to understand what they are saying in that group, about the petition.

"Useless slaughter"?  How can they say the slaughter is useless, if its purpose is to protect the native ecosystem?

I can understand the objection to shooting from helicopters.  Many brumbies would be wounded, rather than killed outright.  Don't you think it would be better if the shooters were required to be on solid ground?

I do not see what alternative solution is offered by the writer of the petition.  Nor am I knowledgable enough about the situation to comment in that group, of which I am not a member anyway.

Australia has some legends/folklore about the people who used to try to capture wild horses. It's not easy and probably no more humane if you tried to hunt them that way. Maybe you could kill one from the pack in a humane way and you'd be able to find the pack again in a few months time. I doubt you would be able to find someone who is both able and willing to do it.

These animal libbers are welcome to try to capture the horses and do whatever they please with them (except release them of course). I doubt you'll see any putting their hands up. Too much like hard work.

Actually, I think the chopper would be both the most humane and the most effective option. You don't get a second shot on the ground. You do from a chopper. You could take some serious arsenal instead of relying on whatever you can carry.  [ send green star]

I'm sure they would be willing to capture them and ship them to some country where there is a shortage of horses, wherever that might be.

I notice that group allows personal attack, ie, Brenda H's 1:33 am post.  Nice to know they don't delete.  I always find it annoying when posts are deleted, leaving the reader wondering what's missing.

Thanks for reminders regarding shooting from a helicopter.  You make two very good points, that I hadn't thought of.  [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]

The animal libbers seem to focus on the 'manliness' aspect of hunting as a way to attack hunters, yet the most humane way to kill these animals is also the least sportsmanlike.

I think once they were faced with the reality of any 'rescue' operation, they would do a PETA and just kill them.

I just changed the thread title. It used to 'freedom from horses'.

Check out this thread: people kicking up a stink because the Hawaiians are killing an invasive frog:
