Devil Dogs... July 19, 2005 3:52 PM

Hey Jandi, anytime you want some of those Devil Dogs... you let me know, OK? It sure does bring back the memories when you talk of the foods that you've enjoyed as a youth, and even now!

I had a friend visit me from Texas, but he grew up here, and the first thing he wanted was to go get some hot dogs with mustard and sauerkraut! He bought a lot to even take back with him, and then about a year later he called to ask me to send him some.

Did you ever have an authentic Reuben sandwhich? Of course you must have an egg cream or famous Dr. Browns Cream Soda to go with it you know.

You'd love this one Jandi, but I honestly saw someone today wearing a tee shirt that said Brooklyn Dodgers on it! I had to make a comment, and we talked for a little while about old Ebbets Field and the Dodgers. It was nice.

Devil dogs! August 22, 2005 10:10 AM

You don't know what you're missing Pamela, dahlin'! You might be able to find them in a Wonderbread/Millbrook/Dolly Madison, etc type of place or even at a convenience store/gas station.  I have seen the chocodiles and maybe the devil dogs or something at one of the gas stations with the snack mart in my local area.   [ send green star]  [ accepted]
Miss Jandi is wonderful! December 30, 2005 2:05 PM

Miss Jandi is so wonderful! A few days ago, I was visiting with her, and she shared her Devil Dogs and Yodels with me! I'm sitting here eating my last package of Yodels she gave me....I miss eating them so much! However, this will be the last time I can eat them! because I have to watch my blood sugar this year.  Miss Jandi and I are going to eat healthier this coming year!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

DEVIL DOGS ! ! ! December 12, 2007 4:49 PM

From 1956 to 1960 on sunny Saturday mornings, my friends and I would scrounge up empty deposit bottles at construction sites. Then we would cash them in at the local Mom & Pop lunchonette. We each ended up with 70 cents more or less, which was a lot of money to a 9 year old kid back then. We would buy goodies like 2 cent pretzels, Bazooka bubble gum, and of course good old devil dogs. On a real good day, I would buy 3 Devil Dogs and call it lunch. We would usually wash it all down with a YooHoo or a Nedicks Orange Soda. Then we would ride the Subway into ChinaTown, Radio City, or Central Park.  After an adventurous day discovering all sorts of new things, we would take the Subway back home and never be late for dinner. If we were lucky our parents wouldn't find out where we'd been and if we we really lucky, we still had 25 cents left over as a start on our next trip. Now, those WERE the good old days.

Thanks for sharing these great memories Vera and Charlie. I love it! You know, everytime I go into my usual store each day, my eyes go straight to where the Drakes cakes are. I have been looking for them to stock my favorites which are 'funny bones', but they sell out so quick. They have remained the same all these years, and come in the two pack and are just enough for that great snack.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
Devil Dogs December 22, 2007 3:56 PM

Hi Everyone,

I'm brand new to the group and just thought I would say hi and that I LOVE Devil Dogs...also Yodels, Ring Dings ( a ding dong is not the same!), and the marble pound cake from Drakes.  I haven't been back to Brooklyn for a looooong time, originally from the Bayview Housing Projects, if anyone knows of them......
