From October 25th to 29th the second edition of SunChild Festival will be held. The festival will take place at different venues (NPAK Center, Naregatsi Art Institute) in the city centre of Yerevan.
The first edition of SunChild Environmental Festival was held in 2007. This unique event is held every second year and is the only environmental festival in the whole Caucasus region.
SunChild Festival is implemented in partnership with VivaCell-MTS company. The aim of the festival is to bring nature, wildlife and environment into the focus of public attention and increase the knowledge about these issues among Armenian citizens and especially among children and youths.
This year SunChild Festival got 112 films from 35 countries. The films belong to different genres and cover a wide range of subjects. These are mostly high quality films presenting interesting discoveries in wildlife and environment. The festival received many environmental educational films, as well as films directed by children. The Selection Committee of the festival will choose films for the
competition program.
Besides the competition section the festival program will also include an informative section.
The festival’s main film section features a competitive international film program in two categories:
Competition for the best nature/wildlife film and the best investigative film of environmental issues.
The festival’s children film section features a competitive program in two categories:
Competition for the best environmental film made by film makers minor 16 and the best environmental educational film for children.
All film screenings will be open for the public free of charge and accompanied by public Q&A meetings with film-makers, environmentalists, artists and other personalities dedicated to film, culture and/or nature. For the children film program thousands of children and youths from the capital as well as from the regions will have the opportunity to come to Yerevan and to visit the
screenings.
The festival program combines a competitive nature nature/wildlife film program with a broad range of other activities (workshops, art exhibitions, concerts, environmental actions). The overall aim is to implement a forum for open discussions, conferences, workshops and training. More than 60 guests from all over the world will participate in the event. Among these guests will be film makers and artists, representatives of international organizations and renowned environmentalists.
As the festival emphasizes the participation of the young generation it has a huge children program. This program includes a youth’s film competition for young filmmakers as well as children art exhibitions and a lot of environmental activities for children.
