That's to bad you didn't get a picture of it. Maybe the new mama can take a picture of the baby wrapped up in it for you. That would be sweet to see.

How is everyone doing?  I bet it has been a busy summer.  My baby blanket is finished and given over to the new mommy.  She loved it thank goodness, but I forgot to take a picture of it LOL.  Oh well.  I am still working on my Jeff project!  There are so many colors!  It seems I have changed my thread 100 times! LOL and I probably have.  I hope everyone is well and enjoying their summer, unless any of you are in the southern hemisphere, then I guess it is winter!

hey all, just checking in.  Hope everyone has a great day.  I have been very busy with my Jeff project, I am about 3/4 done.  I have also started crocheting a baby blanket for a co-worker's daughter who had a baby girl last week.  It will be a light orange color with white highlights.  I also bought enough yarn to make another in lilac, just in case.  Babies seem to be "popping out" all over

That sounds cool! I'll have to remember that if I ever get into cross stitch.

Yes PCStitch is for cross stich and needlepoint only.  Its kinda cool, and the pic of Jeff is coming along nicely.  Its like looking at those paintings that are done in dots.  When I first started it if you looked real close it looked like dots or in this case stsitches, but from a distance it looked like a face. But now that I have more done it looks  like a face.  There are so many colors in it that I dont think I will need any backstitching!  I am also stitching on black cloth, so I need lots of light to see those little holes, well light and reading glasses!  Especially when I am wearing my contacts, dont seem to have much trouble when I am wearing my glasses.

I also did one for Angela, she saw a purple fairy on the web so we put it in, and made a pattern.  I also have one more of wolves taken from a greeting card, that I will probably start after Jeff.

Dolores, I wont tell if you wont.    He really doesn't hate Jeff as much as he used to. I think he even gave him kudos for honoring the late Dale Earnhardt when he won his last race where he tied the record for wins. Besides, who cares what my hubby thinks, you do what you want, that's what matters. I still would like to see it when your done.

I haven't been working on much. I just got back from Florida last Saturday. And since I've been back, all I've been doing is working around the house and looking for a job. I did manage to make a tank top and a hat, but I'm not really happy with the way they turned out. I think I used the wrong yarn.   Oh well, I'll try again.

By the way, what is PCStitch software? Is it just for cross stitch and needlepoint type work?

How is everyone doing?  Any new projects on the horizon?  I have one and I already can hear Betty's hubby!  I am doing a 7x7 portrait of Jeff Gordon LOL

I decided to do Jeff because I am trying out my PCStitch software, I have no idea how the pattern will look when its finished since I have never tried the software before and I figured if it looks like crap it wont really  matter and I wont be too disappointed LOL

I guess it could be similar...but the floss or yarn used is very different...............

Thanks again though

Uh oh, I always thought that counted cross stitch, embroidery, and wicking (the one where you use nothing but french knots to make the pattern, at least I think that's what that's called) were all different forms of needle point. Was I wrong?! How embarrassing!

Thanks, but ummmm, its not needlepoint...its counted cross stitch

WOW! That's an awesome bit of needle point!

Thanks Shawn...and Betty

I ran into my neighbor the other day while out walking my dog, she seems to be doing ok, she is now in a walking cast, hence no more crutches.

I miss the dogs though.....I guess I will have to adapt

I'm so sorry to hear that. Unfortunately there is nothing you can really do to help her unless she wants to be helped. Women like that are self destructive. She's not a bad person, but she is allowing her daughter to abuse her. She is no different than a woman who is married to an abusive man and does nothing but make excuses for him. (I know this from personal experience) If it makes you feel better at all, I think you did the right thing.

I'm glad to hear your friend is doing better. I still think she needs to find someone to back her on standing up to her daughter. I now know why she's afraid, and I don't blame her, but she should not be afraid to call the police if necessary. I wish her the best of luck.

Betty wrote:

I left that part out, the mom is afraid because the daughter has beaten her mother before.  She was afraid she would do it again.

It is a situation that cannot be explained.  The mom is a single mom, has been for the daughters whole life, the dad is a dead-beat and may be dead.  No one knows. Anyway mom works six days a week just to make ends meet, but there is absolutely NO RESPECT for anything with the daughter.  I could kick her a** if I wouldnt get arrested for it, because she is not worth going to jail for.  I agree that it is the parents, but the mom has always provided a good home, she just wasnt around enough to keep her daughter from getting with the "wrong crowd".

Anyway, I have removed myself from that situation permanently.  I feel for the animals, but the mom is getting around better and can do for them, it may take her awhile, but she can do it.

Dolores,

You know you can't take on the weight of the world. I think I understand how you feel, but your friend must stand up and be a parent. I also know that you feel for the pets. They are suffering and they had no say in the matter. What I don't understand is why the mother is afraid of the daughter. Teenagers think they know everything, but they need as much guidence as they can get. Unfortunately nowadays, alot of kids do not respect their parents, but I blame the parents. If they were more like parents instead of friends, maybe their kids would have more respect for them. It sounds to me like your friend could use a little counseling to help her through this. She needs someone that can help her stand up to her daughter. She needs to prove to the daughter that she is the parent and that the daughter should have more respect and help with things around the house since her mother is somewhat disabled. All you can do at this point is be there for her as much as you can, within reason. I wish the best for you and your friend at this rough time. I hope you both come out unscathed.

My heart is broken. My friend who broke her ankle is getting better praise God for that. But her daughter and I had it out tonight, mostly about how selfish she is in not helping to care for the animals in their home.  I went over there every day 3 times a day for the last 6 weeks to walk their dogs, even when I was sick....the daughter had to be reminded repeatedly to feed the cats and clean the cat boxes, she is 17 and quite capable of doing this without being told. Her mom, my friend, is afraid of her daughter, I know that.  She (the daughter) got upset with me because I cleaned the cat boxes, used my own litter because she didnt buy any, and left the baggie for her to throw out, which she didnt do. She just placed the baggie in another room, so I put it in her bedroom, twice, she verbally accosted me when I went over to walk the dogs this evening, telling me what a dirty b**** I was because I called her cell phone and told her to take care of her responsibilites...anyway, I told my friend that I wouldnt be able to help her anymore...I am very upset and not sure I am doing the right thing, but I just cant do it anymore.  I put my life on hold for these people and I got chewed out for my trouble. My friend did nothing, not even told her daughter to stop. I know I should still help because its the right thing to do, but I am so hurt.

Looks like everyone here is finally mended, although dumb husband insisted on working even though he was sick, so it took him longer to recover.

ATTACK OF THE KILLER SQUIRRELS!!!!

I had to go to the emergency room because of a squirrel once about 5 years ago.. Ihad to get a tetnus shot too, but it was because the damn thing jumped on my hand and scratched the hell out of me.  Stupid squirrels!

Figures the men always leave things to us women to fix. You Big baby MIKE!

Angela is better, she went to the doctor and had her stitches removed today.  I just got back from dropping her back at school.  Good thing she decided to go to school close by. Mark and I have both been sick, Mark is worse off than me, guess my taking better care of myself has finally paid off!

Angela didnt take any medicine when she started throwing up, but we believe dehyration is what caused her to faint and hurt herself, so now she is trying to stay beter hydrated.  She is doing great in school too, despite all the troubles this week.

Hey Dolores,

Sorry to hear about Angela. Hope she's doing better now. I know what it's like. I've passed out before when I was sick, but I never broke anything open. I did hit my face on the floor, but all I got was a bloody nose. It looked worse than it was. All they did was tell me that I was dehydrated and not to take NyQuil. So now when I'm sick I stay away from liquid medicine.

I too had a trip to an emergency room yesterday. Nothing serious. I had to get a tetnus shot. I was trying to get a squirrel out of my attic. He was such a wily critter, but I was determined. While I was in the attic, I hit my head on a nail and got a gash. (Which bled like crazy.) Mike suggested I get the shot because I have never had one. My stay at the emergency room was only about 1 hour. Not bad really. No stitches, but it is kinda tender today. And my arm is very sore from the shot. Glad I don't have to work today.

And yes, I did get that squirrel. And if Mike wasn't such a pansy about wild animals, I probably wouldn't be so sore today. It's because of him that I had to be in the attic in the first place. He was not going to go up there while that squirrel was still there. Once it was gone, he went up there to patch the place where the critter got in so as to avoid any further nuisances. Oh well, it makes for a great story to tell at the bar.

HI

I am still working on the lions, I have about 3/4 of it done. I dont know if I iwll get much done this weekend since my daughter came home from college and promptly got the flu, which resulted in her getting dehydrated, passing out and splitting open her chin. 2 bags of saline(= 10 cups of water) in four hours and 3 stitches later in her chin, she is recovering.  Since she is resting I am doing her laundry.  I may work a bit on it in awhile, but I havent slept since 2:30 a.m.

I am waiting until the project is complete before I decide on a frame.  It is easier to select a frame when the entire project is done.  But I am still leaning on the black, ornate frame.

Have you run a search on e-bay for quilts? That's what I did when I needed to know how much to charge for the socks I knit.

Hey Dolores,

Have you gotten any further on your lions? I would like to see how it turns out, and I also would like to see what frame you decided on.

I should be starting a new project soon. I have a friend that has asked about a quilt. I have to talk with her to see what, if any, particular pattern or colors or materials she would like. Then I have to come up with a price. Any help on figuring pricing? I've never made a quilt that I intended to sell, and the other ones I made were so long ago that I don't remember how much time I put into them.

oh and apparently  I already posted that corner picture!  HMMMM maybe that is the one I should get!
I understand what your are saying about the wood grain.  But the stitching itself is so full of yellows and browns I thought a darker frame would be better, I will have to finish the picture I guess before making a final decision.  I have finished the small part on the left and have reached even with the right side but there is still MUCH to do.

I still like the light wooden frame where you can see the wood grain.

frame2 the top one here

But if it won't look right where you want to hang it, I guess the darker one you picked out would be nice. I think it's a little too ornate for the picture it's surrounding. But maybe that's just me. I like to have a person's eyes drawn to the picture not the frame. I like the more simple, plain frames. But it is your picture and it should be what you think is best.

frame3 I also like this one. I don't think it's as ornate as the darker one.

I think a stained wood would be really nice for the lions. The elephant frame looks a little ornate, but since it's dark it doesn't stand out so much. It goes well with the elephants. I think the lions should have a lighter shade. Maybe a frame that shows the wood grain really well would be nice.

(Just wanted to give my 2 cents worth.)

yeppers Betty, they are.

They will go with my dolphins and elephants that I did earlier.  I am having some difficulty finding a frame I like though.  I am not sure if I should go with a colored frame or just stained wood and if it should have a design like the elephants do.

If it is, I can imagine why it's taking so long. You could go "cross-eyed" doing that.

Hey, Happy Mother's Day to you!

I just finished making my first strawberry rhubarb pie (2 actually).

Oh, I also made a new dress and bolero jacket for Easter. I don't have a picture of it yet, but I will. I'm currently working on a halter top and coulottes. I should have it done in time for the warm weather.

I entered a contest a few days ago to name a new type of knitting loom. Well my entry made it to the top 10!! If my name is chosen, I'll win some cool knitting stuff!

The name I entered is 22 scadoo. The reason I picked that name is because you can knit an item approximately 22 inches wide and the loom is easily adjustable.

I would appreciate your help to win. All you need to do is go to this web sight http://isela.typepad.com/ and vote for 22 scadoo. I would REALLY like to win that knitting stuff.

Laminate floor is installed and looks wonderful!  I am so glad we did it.

What is everone else up to?

Well, the painting is done, and the laminate floor will be installed Feb 7th.  Now I just need to finish the stair railing, purchase an area rug and have vertical blinds installed.  Husband wants to rearrange furniture so I will wait until the floor is installed to finish the purchases.  I am looking forward to getting back to my projects instead of working on my house!

Hope everyone is doing well.

What is everyone working on at the moment?

Me..I am crocheting an afghan with kitties cross stitched on it as well as working on a cross stitch project of lions on an African plain.

I am also redecorating my living room.  I have ordered the laminate floor and that will be installed in two weeks (I hope).  We still need to paint the room and that is taking longer to do than I hoped, but husband insists on doing that himself and will only work on Saturdays!  Ah well it will get done eventually.

Well, the Cougars won last week, 10-4.  Looked like a no hitter for awhile but the Cougars rallied in the 5th, scoring 7 runs!

of course they scored a few more.  The Dragonss never scored after the 5th.

Hope everyone is doing ok, and will stop by to say hello.

Betty,

I had considered just a blouse, but in the English Ren faire tradition, traditional costume calls for a bodice over a chemise.  of couse it doesnt have to be traditional, but I thought it would be more fun that way.  I purchased a pair of boots yesterday at Payless for 25.00, they really are perfect to go with the costume I am putting together and look kinda cool with jeans as well so I can wear them anytime  .  It is fun to put together and I figured I could wear it at Halloween time too, if I ever get invited to a party and feel like going

Well, I am off to the store to get food for my fur-babies, then its off to the shelter for a reunion of all the animals adopted from there.

Tomorrow is my company picnic, we are going to see the Kane County Cougars play the Dayton Dragons {class A baseball}. Its a nice ball park so it should be fun.

I know the Cougars are class A for the Oakland A's but does anyone know who the Dragons are  class A for? or perhaps where I can find out?  Oh, I guess I could do that myself couldnt I?

Have you considered just a peasant blouse? That would be the easiest way to go. If you want a bodice, try looking at the Halloween costume patterns in the books at Hobby Lobby or JoAnne Fabrics. Simplicity usually has some simple patterns. I also know someone who made costumes for the faire, if I think of it I will ask her where she got her patterns.

Ok Im not gonna ask why......

Anyway, I went to the Faire yesterday, had a blast! Almost lost my voice screaming for my knight to win the Joust of Death.  He didnt, but still fun anyway.

A sewing question....I want to make a costume to wear the next time I go.  I have a skirt that just needs a hem, but I am wondering, would it be better to buy a ready made bodice, or try to make one?  I would need an easy pattern, since I am not great with the machine...If buying one, does any one have a site that sells them.  I have looked on ebay and am considering that.  Whatcha all think?

I'm taking a break from polyester yarn and am working on a cotton yarn bikini bottom.  i agree betty, it is way to warm for crocheting any heavy material.

on the Nascar!  I have been very frustrated this season though!  I took the stitching, thinking I could stitch the Friday or Saturday evening, but by the time I got back to the hotel I was wiped out!

OHHHH the beach!  I love the ocean.  Sand in the project...not good though.

I have never tried the eyelash yarn...I was thinking about covering flip flops with it. I believe it was Grete who posted a Lionbrand site that had instructions for them. Summer will be over before I can do it! Ah, well for next year eh?  I would like to see that poncho when its done for sure.

Hey Dolores, I know how you can be with your Nascar. I can't believe you even bothered to take any stitching with you. I too have lots of fun on my vacations, but this last one was all about relaxing, which is what we did mostly. It was also way too hot. Plus I didn't want to get sand on it.

Grete,

I'm still working on a poncho. It's too warm right now to do much crocheting. Plus I'm using an eyelash yarn and am having some difficulties with it. It can be very frustrating at times, so I try to do a little at a time. I don't want to discourage myself from finishing it. When I do get it done I'll post a picture of it.

I dont think I have ever gone into a specialty store for yarn.  I ususally go to Hobby Lobby.  I dont know if you have them around you but anything crafty.....they have it. It's more of a serve yourself kinda place. LOL,  that or Joann Fabrics, but Hobby Lobby is closer to my house.

Betty, I have taken my stitching while on vacation, but I am usually too busy having fun to DO it!!!    LOL  Last vacation I took, I went to Talladega AL for a Nascar race, I saw the hotel long enough to shower and sleep!  I love doing it though.

oh, and I have noticed that most of the people against the books havent even read them. They dismiss them out of hand simply on the subject matter.  I allowed my daughter to read them, she is now 17, goes to church, reads her bible, and has given her life to Jesus, she is saved, as am I, but I am made to feel not a Christian because we enjoy a book!

I understand where most people are coming from since they speak from the bible, but I see it only as a form of entertainment.  They talk of witchcraft and divination and how that is against Gods word. Yes, it is in the bible that His people should not engage in such activities, but nothing I see says DO NOT READ!  I am confused about it and was looking for another opinion to help me try o understand it.  I dont feel I would get that help from people so adamantly against the books.  I believe that if you shouldnt read those books then no book but the bible should be read and no television or movie theatre eiher, since those things are of the world as well.  Perhaps they dont do those things either .
