Please Don't Visit Turkey
Turkey is among UK tourists' favourite holiday spots, attracting visitors through expensive advertising campaigns that tout the country's best features. The official advertising campaign, "Turkey Is Just Fun", depicts a harmonious atmosphere free of any unpleasant sights, stresses or cruelty. The vibrant campaign is seen in the UK and in other countries through print and TV ads. However, the campaign leaves out one cruel detail: the suffering of homeless animals, which is due in part to tourism.
Every year, Turkey's streets are "cleaned" before the tourist season starts. Dogs are poisoned or taken to garbage dumps. Often, they are transported to remote areas (where most of them die of thirst or starvation), or they are taken to extremely crowded shelters, where they are simply forgotten. Most of this occurs out of the sight of tourists.

They are not only cruel to the wolf - but look how they treat their dogs - and look how the dogs suffer with their injuries - when they don't want to attack they are forced into it again - none of these animals want any part of this human 'sport' the wolf wants to go - be left alone - the dogs well - you can see

Stop this kind of animal cruelty in Turkey! Petition
http://www.gopetition.com/online/25353.html
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/turkey---stop-the-abuse-on-your-animals
Under the 5199 Animal Protection Act enacted by the Turkish parliament back in
2004, municipal administrations have the primary responsibility for the welfare
of homeless animals. Accordingly, all municipalities are responsible for
ensuring the right to life, health and nutrition of all homeless animals that
live in their area of jurisdiction. In this sense, there is no such thing as a
homeless animal. Any dog or cat not owned by a private individual is considered
to be owned by the relevant municipal authority under the law. Yet an
overwhelming majority of municipalities in Turkey do not take these
responsibilities seriously. Even worse, most of them systematically torture
homeless animals.
That is why we have decided to launch the “No Vote for Animal Murderers”
campaign on the eve of the 29 March 2009 local election. We no longer want
mayors who torture homeless animals in office, and we will punish them on
election day with our votes.
Our campaign activities are twofold: reaching the mayoral candidates, reaching
the voters. We ask the candidates to publicly declare that they will respect
animal rights should they be elected. And we try to convey the “No Vote”
message to the voters.
You can support these activities as well. You can contact the candidates and
ask them to publicly commit themselves to animal rights. The names of those
candidates who do so will be published in our group page. You can also support
our campaign by reaching out to the voters. The links below will take you to our
campaign materials. We prepared these materials with quotes from the article
“A Call to Animal Friends” by Bekir Coskun, one of Turkey’s most popular
columnists. You can start an e-mail chain with these materials, add them to you
blogs and web sites and thus help spread the “No Vote for Animal Murderers”
message as widely as possible.
We hope to have animal-friendly mayors after the 29th March election….

Turkey is set to be the most popular tourist country for 2009 ,
TURKEY:
Indicators used include Political Risk, Business Environment Risk, Forecast International Tourism Receipts, Visitor Arrival Growth, Investment Environment and Shock Factors (taking account of any special factors such as terrorism, natural disasters and disease). Company SWOTs for leading resort, hotel, airline, travel and tourism operators in each market, including competitive intelligence on overall geographic presence, competitive positioning and relationships with international operators; % share of operator markets; % share of international arrivals and departures; % share of busiest domestic routes; main products and services; panregional expansion, merger and acquisition strategies. >>>>
2008.
following an impressive recovery in foreign visitor arrivals in 2007, with growth of 17.8% year-on-year (y-o-y), the most recent data for H108 show continuing buoyant growth in arrivals of some 17% y-o-y to over 11mn visitors.
However, in July, unconfirmed data suggest growth in foreign arrivals slowed somewhat. In the hospitality sector, meanwhile, there are signs of a slowdown in the tourism sector.
In Q208, the total number of tourist room nights amounted to almost 64.5mn nights, up just over 9% y-o-y (compared with almost 13% y-o-y growth in Q207).
Over the same period, the number of foreign tourist room nights – which accounted for some 75% of the total – was up a relatively strong 7.2% y-o-y to around 48.3mn nights (after growth of nearly 17% y-o-y in Q207).
The outlook for the Turkish economy has worsened steadily through the first five months of 2008.
Amid spiralling inflation, renewed monetary tightening, a weakening external climate and a spike in import values owing to energy costs, real GDP growth is now expected to fall further to 3.8% in 2008.
While we have extended our downward economic growth revisions through the long term, maintainING that rising purchasing power and lower interest rates, alongside an improving external climate, should continue to accelerate economic expansion in 2009-2012.
On the back of these data, revised up tor forecast for foreign visitor arrivals this year but maintain that there will be an overall slowdown in growth in 2008 and, in particular, 2009.
The background economic scenario is holding to long-term positive view on the Turkish lira – which is likely to dampen growth in visitor arrivals to Turkey over the next few years – with end-2008 forecast of TRY1.1400/US$ and long-term forecasts are TRY1.06/US$ and TRY1.36/EUR in 2012. In the short term, this is likely to be compounded by the global economic outlook, with a further slowdown in demand anticipated in key European economies, including Germany, Russia and the UK – major source markets for Turkey.
In the eurozone forecast for real GDP growth at 1.4% in 2009, revised down from 2.0% (with 2008’s projection unchanged at 1.6%), as believed that the knock-on from the US slowdown will become evident toward the end of 2008.
Turkish Airlines
In financial results for H108, Turkey’s national airline, Turkish Airlines (THY), reported a substantial 219% y-o-y increase in net profit to US$208mn. This was despite fuel price increases, which resulted in additional costs of US$258mn (fuel costs accounted for 34% of overall operating costs, compared with 26% a year earlier). Operating revenue, meanwhile, increased by 37% y-o-y to US$2,131mn, with 76% of revenue derived from international traffic and 24% from domestic operations. Latest figures for the period January to August 2008 show passenger traffic up a healthy 15.4% y-o-y to 14.9mn.
Hilton Hotels Corporation
Following a similar arrangement with another local developer in 2007, Hilton Hotels Corporation (HHC) signed an agreement with a Turkish conglomerate, in June 2008, to introduce around 25 hotels (3,500 rooms) over five years. The majority of the hotels will be under the Hilton Garden Inn brand, the first of which will be opened in Kütahya (in western Turkey) in Q210.
here, here- Hilton hotels!
Paris Hilton would be verry happy to see all those killed dogs all over turkey!?
Hi Everyone,
I have been contacted by a friend and animal rescuer for help to save 350 dogs in Turkey .
These dogs need to be moved and quickly , a place is waiting for them , the problem is there are no funds available . Many of the dogs are already ill and in need of treatment .
At the moment I am unable to disclose where the dogs are and of where they will be going, This is to protect them as we do not want the kind of interference from certain parties like we had with Jonah .
I am asking everyone I know for donations ..no matter how small .
If you can help please donate to my paypal account : simsshineon@aol.com
I will forward every penny on to the organisation dealing with this huge rescue.
Once the dogs are moved and safe I will email all donators the full story , I hope you will understand the need for secrecy at this time.
Thank you
Avril

Dear All, Unfortunately it is not only Ýzmir!
I am sending you pics of the dogs I have found since 10 days all around Beykoz.
Some have been poisoned, others shot down by farmers, or hunters!
As local elections are approaching Beykoz Municipality is working very hard collecting day and night dogs even the protected ones from Beykoz town and drop them in the woods (so that hunters and wood protectors kills them) or in the villages (so that farmers kills them). Recently the actual authorities have sorted that villages population of Beykoz cannot vote for local mayors and this is the reason why they dump all the dogs in these areas.
Today again I have been told of 12 dogs shot down at Ali Bahadýr a village from Beykoz! I believe it is time again to please take out your Beykoz Municipality e-mail adresses from your drawer and start protesting!
I am sure this is not only in Beykoz but all over Ýstanbul (and of course all over Turkey see Ýzmir) But the biggest dog population is of course in Ýstanbul and the biggest responsible of this mass murder is the candidacy of Ýstanbul to 2010 Citiy of Cultuer!
Please go on protesting ÝSTANBUL MAYOR KADÝR TOPBAÞ he is the leader of this extermination!!

LETTER:
Dear Mayor Kadir Topbas,
I was appalled to know that poisoning spree has occurred again in the municipality of Istanbul, despite the laws voted in your country. The pictures are horrific, dogs and cats dead in deep suffering, as we know that poisoning is one of the more cruel deaths, put in bans like garbage. We don't understand why it is so difficult for you to handle the number of stray animals. The spay and neuter campaigns are working very well all around Europe, and even recently Romania and Bulgaria have adopted European standards, helped by reknown organisations as Four Paws (VierPfoten). Why don't you ask them to help you? It wouldn't cost you anything and you'd stop getting this sad reputation Turkey has had for a long time of being a cruel place for animals. Besides, is it so difficult to consider the fact that animals are sentient beings, that they can feel love, fear or suffering? And that they are so useful to people in many ways? Please stop the killing, open shelters, accept help and advises, and let the volunteers and animals rights activists care about this. They know their job!! Animal Defenders around the world are waiting for you to react positively. A town is Istanbul which is intending to become the city of Culture in 2010 can't have such a sad reputation. We will never cease asking you this. Not until the massacre stop.
Sincerely, Name, Surname, Addre
