Been out of the loop. November 11, 2005 9:48 PM

New member!

I've kind of been incomunnicado for the last decade (no, not in jail), so I don't have any real idea of what's out there musically nowadays. I'm from the punk/hardcore old school, Black Flag, DK/s, Angry Samoans, MDC, Ramones, etc. Recently I started subscribing to Satellite XM radio and there's a pretty good punk station, Fungus 53. For the most part I like what I've been hearing. Old as well as new music. I was very pleased to come across this group. Most folks around my area are unfamiliar w/my musical tastes and are happy to stay that way. They're nice enough though. I like all musical genres so whatever they put on the jukebox at the local watering hole is fine by me. Just thought I'd say "hey" and introduce myself.

Any Einstuerzende Neubauten fans out there?

When I was younger I was into the same music as you.  My parents were punks.  Especially my mom.  Her second husband used to book the shows at the Exit in Chicago.  It didn't really occur to me back then, but I spent an awful lot of time around some really kickass bands when I was a little kid.  There were allways bands crashing at my parents house.  I remember DOA, Naked Raygun, the Damned, MDC, and Black Flag.  Joey Shithead was a idiot and Henry Rollins was a complete @$$hole.  Everyone else was totally cool though.

Anyhow, these days I listen to mostly heavy metal.  There are some great bands out there now.  System of a Down, Slipknot, Mudvayne, and Disturbed are a few of my favorites.  Check out my profile, I have a huge list and it's not even all of it.  What I love about Wisconsin is that there is a growing and thriving band scene up here.  Allmost every weekend I go to a different show.  Yesterday I saw a band called Planet of 9.  Definately my favorite.  They are from Wasau, and they really have some diehard fans.  Allway a great show, this time it was in a small bar/coffeshop in Stevens Point.  There wasn't a massive crowd or anything, but we turned the whole floor into a mosh pit.  There were people stagediving and everything.  Reminds me of the good old days.  You know, when you could actually interact with the band and ther weren't barricades in front of the stage.  Here's a link, why don't you check 'em out. I think they toatally rock.  Check out the free song downloads too.  Good stuff.  Other good bands are Bevl, Vile Red, Sinkroom, Shattered Red, and Chainsnap.  Everybody has websites these days.
