Time for a new Thread, here is the link....http://www.care2.com/c2c/groups/disc.html?gpp=47&pst=1712901

Donna, the kitten isn't here this morning.  Even the pic I posted changed back to the sweater girl.

We have about 4 inches of snow.  All kitties are staying in, even Little Joe and Black and White.  A warming spell (Yay Donna) is starting today.  We are supposed to have at least 2 days of 50 degrees this week.

My Rosie is doing okay, better than okay.  I am going to the Medicine Shoppe and chew them out today for not advertising these capsules!  My life could have been easier for ever so long if only I knew they sold such a thing.  And Rosie may not have had the last two episodes if I could have gotten the meds down.  And I am going to chew the vet out too.  Of course these chewing outs won't be mean, just why didn't you tell me this before?

I hope everyone is okay.  I am going back and check the previous posts out.  I wanted to get a new thread started quickly.

good morning.look as if its going to be a real cold day.I need to get to the bank before I go to pt at 3:30 pm today.and than go pick up a few things from the store.and than head back home for the day.hope you all have  awesome day.God bless you all

Thanks Teri, it's easier to have an awesome day now that Rosie is doing well.  You keep warm, and be careful going out.  Hey I just figured out what PT is.  It's physical theraphy isn't it?  Good luck there.  It wasn't too cold here yesterday.  We had a couple inches of fresh snow and I almost decided to make a snowman but was just too lazy and relaxed to do so.  Maybe next time.  Again, take care, sending happy prayers to you.

Sugar,
It wasn't there yesterday for me when you told me to look. Now I know that sort of thing happens sometimes when you go from page back to page, but I always refresh. I also am not getting help from care2 on this. Eric thought it was fixed when he saw the one kitten pic, but it is gone again.

I am confused about the capsules. I know they make capsules for humans to put their powdered mixes into them, but if these are capsules for cats, wouldn't it be the same giving a capsule as giving a pill? I prefer the liquids...

photo Needafriendtolisten.jpg I agree Sugar it won't do any good but you will feel better. Teri take care of yourself!

Good morning, all! Hope this finds y'all doing well and with things going great. Things are good here. It's 11:25am as I start this post and already 74F on our porch so looks like we're in for a warm day. Not much going on here, just my usual.

Sugar, thanks for starting us a new thread. I'm so glad that Rosie's doing so good. I don't blame you for  giving the Medicine Shoppe and your vet a chewing out. It definitely would've been so much easier had you known about the capsules from all you've said about them. When does Kenny go to the vet? So you got snow but didn't make a snowman? Hope you get on emade befor ethat 50 degree weather gets there and melts all the snow. Yes, PT is physical therapy.

Teri, hope your PT goes well. Sorry it's so cold there. I hope it doesn't make your pain worse.

Donna, great to see you here.

Sandi, hope your blood test went well. Love the picture you posted, the kitties are so very cute and adorable.

Take care everyone and have a fantastic day.

Hi Michelle,
We haven't had a snow flake here all day. It is dreary though, but not real cold. I don't think so anyway.

Donna, I am sorry but Rosie gets 4 pills every other morning and 3 pills the other mornings and 3 pills every evening.  And one of the pills makes her drool something terrible.  I personally don't like to give liquids and there is no way I will give Rosie all those pills individually.  The capsules are like magic.  Once they are in the back of the mouth a little ways, they are down into her little gullet!  It is working.  I did get to the Medicine Shoppe and chewed them out for not advertising, at the least for not putting notices up at the vets of the capsule availability.  I take Kenny in for his yearly checkup tomorrow morning and at that time I will chew the vets out for not telling me about the capsules.

We had some really heavy snow too Teri.  Be careful driving in that.  Glad you got most of your needs out of the way.

That's great Shell.  You are a good person for taking care of little Princess.  Her life will be so much better after the spaying.

Hi Darla and Sandi.  We are at hump day again.  The week is half over.  Darn, where does the time go?

In case I missed anyone, here's a great big hello.....well........

Good Morning_____.jpg

I had a fun Monday I had to go to "jury selection" luckily I was not chosen to be on the jury as they don't pay you and you have to take days off of work to attend. I wouldn't have been too happy about that.

Sugar, I am sorry that Rosie had another episode but I am so happy to hear that she is doing great now, hopefully now that it's easier to give her all the pills in the capsule that she will feel better for a very long time.

Donna, Henry is a handsome boy, thanks for posting the picture of him.

When I have more time I will have to tell you all about the many reptiles, snakes and such that I use to have. I used to be the supervisor in a pet store of the reptile department so I have had quite a few reptiles. Now I just have my 2 tortoises and 1 frog ( he use to live with a toad but sadly he passed away 6 months ago at the age of 15). I have my fur folk now and I love them so much.

Shell, I look forward to seeing how Princess P is doing when she gets home, let us know.

I wanted to ask if any of you had ever had problems with kitties and their thyroid? My young boy Alan (he is almost 2 years old) he is overweight, I have been feeding him less and have been mixing his food half and half with weight control food ( if I give him just straight weight control he doesn't eat it) and he keeps gaining, he is 24 pounds! My vet said he is a big cat generally but I am starting to think it could be something else, maybe thyroid.

Teri, it sounds like you are very busy. I hope you can make it to your appointment this morning with the doctor and you can reschedule your appointment for physical therapy soon.

Angie, sorry to hear you have having problems with your desktop I am not too crazy about using laptops either.

I hope everyone else is having a great day

Michela, from my experiences the thyroid problem cats have is generally hyperthyroidism which means they eat a lot and cry for food but lose weight without taking meds.  I  have had 3 cats with that problem.  Dogs generally get hypo thyroidism which means gains weight easily and seems a little lazy and some times has a type of pattern baldness.  My Bo had that problem and lived to be 14 and my kitties lived to be around 17 on meds.  My Kenny is a big boy and has been checked for thyroid and sugar and he is just a big (fat) healthy boy.  He is 16.  Both affects their hearts without meds.  It is an easily controlled problem.  I'm betting your Alan is just a boy like Kenny.  To ease your mind, you can have his blood checked.  Kenny weighed 23 pounds at his heaviest and he is small boned.  Please keep me posted on Alan.  Let me know if you get him checked.  Your vet doesn't seem worried.  We love you Alan, keep well.

Michela, here is a pic of my Kenny.  He is the dearest, sweetest cat.  He reaches up and pats you on the face.  Ray loved him, he always said kenny was taking his temperature and being a good nurse for him.  Sugar

Thank-you Sugar. When I went to the vet she said I should try to get him to lose some weight but he would never be really small as he is just a big cat. Kenny is adorable, he looks like a really sweet boy. I'm glad that he helped you take care of Ray. Alan is round like Kenny, he is the kitty in my thumbnail picture but he was only 7 months then and much slimmer. Roxy is going for her annual visit this week and gets all her vaccines so maybe I will take Alan in next month to get his thyroid checked. I just love him to bits and don't want him to get diabetes or have heart problems because of his weight. I will have to post an updated picture of him and all my other kitties too. Thanks for making me feel better .

Karen, glad to see you are back.

Welcome back Karen, missed you. No snow here yet its been in the low 30's. Terri glad Michella will go with you.  Sugar Kenny is a handsome kitty. Stripes says tell Mouse hello!

Good morning, all! Hope this finds y'all doing well and with things going great. Things are good here. Not much going on here, just my usual. Have been up since 5:00 this morning after taking my early morning meds.

Shell, it's good you're getting Princess P spayed. Sorry Salem is missing her but she'll be back soon. As for your post, I had it figured out.

Sandi, great to see you here.

Donna, great to see you here.

Teri, sorry you had to miss your PT appointment. Hope you get to the next one. It's great that Michelle will go with you to see what needs to be done so she can help you exercise/stretch at home. Hope you make your appointment with the pain management doctor. It'll be good for you to see a specialist in pain. Getting you on the correct medicine to help that pain is so very important. I've been seeing my pain management doctor for over 10 years, he's really great.

Sugar, glad you're having such a positive experience with those capsules. Glad you got to tell off the Medicine Shoppe for not promoting them. What did they have to say for themselves? Love the picture of th ekitten with the coffee cup. We have one who drinks coffee. Kenny certainly is a big boy! He's a beautiful cat.

Michela, glad you didn't get picked for jury duty. Yes, it would've been a hassle missing work with no pay. I was asked to go to jury duty once years ago and was dismissed b'cuz I'm disabled. They don't even call on me anymore. If you're worried about Alan's thyroid I would ask the vet to run a blood test. However, the vet doesn't sound worried. What kind of cat is he?

Karen, great to see you here. Glad you can post again.

Take care everyone and have a fantastic day.

Darla, Alan is just a regular domestic short hair but I can't really say I know much about his background. His feral mother abandoned him in my back yard when he was 7 weeks old, I caught him in a humane trap. He was the third one she abandoned there were two others that I caught the week before and they were both adopted by my husband's uncle. I don't know who his dad is and his mother is gone now. She raised her two other kittens in my back yard and when they were about 6 months old she disappeared and I never saw her again. Those two kittens are adults know and live in my backyard and I had them fixed and they come to eat and drink everyday along with my other ferals.

I'm glad that your pain management doctor is so great. I can't believe one of your cats likes coffee. Have a great day.

Michela, sometimes DSHs are just  big cats. I have one named Kona {my tuxedo cat} who weighs about 20 pounds an dhe's not fat, he's simply a big boy. Sounds like your Alan may be one of those. Kona was also an abandoned kitty {all of mine are ~ you can see pictures in the last Chit Chat thread I believe}. It's great that you took those abandoned ones in and got them adopted. That's how we got Kona, the maintenance guys found him and brought him to us to "find him a home". He was about 6 weeks old.

Thanks for the thoughts on my pain management doctor. Yes, Cinder is our cat who likes coffee except when I'm using my peppermint mocha creamer!

Take care and have a fantastic day.

well I just guess I am not to kept any appointments this week.because this morning we all slept in and did not even get woke up by any of the kats, which is not them.their are always trying to get us up so they get feed and their meds.not today.so I had to call and tell them what happen and made a other appointment right a way.I guess belive that all the kats just went us to stay at home with them.so now I have a other appointment in the mornig to get my selve for my arms and my hands for my lymphedema.which will help a lot with all of this swell in both arms and hands a nd now in my stomch.every thing I wore today was tight on me even my night grown.that I look nine month you know what.and I feel as well.well good night everyone.God bless.

What a relief!  Rosie has her pills already.  Love the ease in which this happens now.  I just filled another week's worth of capsules.  That's getting easier.  It does make my hand hurt a little as they are so little and hard to handle.  I have bad thumb joints where it joins the wrist.  Always put a medium to dark towel on your counter to catch any you might drop while filling and also to be able to see the capsules better.  They are lively little guys.  Michela the Shoppe was busy but the girls there said they would pass the information on to the big guy.  Here's hoping.  It will help lots of people and cats if they know about the capsules.  I will check with them in the future.  I bought a hundred more so have a few weeks worth.

Hi Teri, I hope you get to your PT soon.  My friend with the same lymph problem is trying to get her swelling down to be able to order special stockings to keep it down.  The therapist doesn't want to order it until she is less swollen.  They haven't even started on her arm yet.  That's next.

Well my sweet little Kenny gets weighed in today.  He lost about 7 pounds in a little over 2 years by changing his food and trying to get him to walk around a little more.  I can't wait to see his weight today.  Last year we had him down to 16 pounds which the vet was happy with.  I just  hope he hasn't lost any more.  She didn't want him to either.

Oh dear, today we are supposed to get a little sunshine and I don't get to enjoy it.  I promised a friend I would go shopping with her.  One of my unfavorite things to do since I don't have money to waste.  Especially with the recent big expenses,  real estate taxes, house insurance and of course Rosie.  Rosie was worth it though, she is full of vim and vigor and has a hefty appetite now.  I am not going to treat her like an invalid.  I almost started that and then I realized she wouldn't understand and deserves to live the rest of her life as a normal cat.  She has been wanting to go out on the deck and at first I wouldn't let her.  Now when she wants out to go pottie or whatever, I let her.  She only stays out 5 to 15 minutes and is ready to come back in.  I am going to ask the vet what her future looks like today and to the best of her knowledge will the Lasix control the fluid build up?

Gotta go, I just noticed the time and I have a few things to do before we leave.

Good afternoon, all! hope this finds y'all doing well and with things going great. Things are good here. Not much going on here, just my usual. Do have to water plants later today.

Teri, sorry you missed your appointment. Sorry also that you have so much swelling. Hope you make the appointment to get your sleeve.

Sugar, glad to hear Rosie's doing so well. I think it's great you're not treating her like an invalid. I have to believe that cats wouldn't want that anymore than we do. She does deserve to live the rest of her life as a normal cat, one who just happens to have daily medication to take. Taking that medication doesn't define her. Glad to hear that the girls at the Medicine Shoppe are going to pass on your words to the manager. Let us know how much Kenny weighs. Sorry you have to do one of your least favorite things on such a nice day. Enjoy your time with your friend anyway.

Take care everyone and have a fantastic day.

Good afternoon everyone!! Not much going on here...I am just puttering around. The cats have been restless all day, pacing between windows. We have a winter storm warning and a snowfall warning in effect and I guess the cats can feel the storm on the way. I usually ignore these storm warnings when they give them this much hype; it seems they blow over alot of times when we prepare for them...lol. But they seem pretty adamant that this is going to happen so I guess we/ll wait and see. When I got up yesterday, there were rabbit prints all over the back of my property so I put my coffee in a takeout container and went out to follow them for awhile. I have been trying to get a picture of the rabbits around here since I moved here back in '97...I still haven't been successful. They are so darn fast; everyone once in awhile we will see one briefly pop out of the woods but it doesn't happen often. I usually just see their footprints in the snow.

I am so relieved to hear that Rosie is doing so much better Sugar. I'm sure Kenny will pass his physical with flying colours too. Then all will be well with your little family I also hate going shopping...and then when I do have the money and the plan, I really don't like going shopping with other people. I always feel like I'm boring the other person by dragging them through all the aisles and so I rush through, always forgetting things I need. One of these days I'm going to do what my sister in law does at Christmas. She lives in Toronto and has access to the 24 hour stores down there so she goes to Walmart at 3 a.m. and does her shopping What an idea....I'd love to try that. Surrounded by sleepy sales staff (which seems more normal at 3 in the morning than 3 in the afternoon), nobody stopping in front of you blocking the aisle, no mile long checkout lines.

I'm sorry you all slept in and missed your appointment Teri. I know how much you wanted to speak to the pain specialist and see what he could do for you. How lucky that you were able to rebook your appointment....specialists always seem to give me a hard time about things like that...as if they are more privileged than regular doctors. If you are also getting this storm, it’s probably a good time to relax at home with your furkids and Harry and Michelle and do some indoor things. I don’t go to p/t because I don’t want to deal with the driving. It would be a great drive under the summer sun but during the winter, I like to stay close to home.

Michela, I also have an overweight cat.....my Roxy. She is so big but she is healthy and the vet doesn’t seem too concerned though she did ask me about her eating habits and suggested I try some weight control food for her. It’s hard when you have more than one cat; they all seem to eat out of each other’s bowls all day long so it’s hard to see who is getting what. My kids call her the house raccoon.

Hi Karen....glad you’re able to post. Good to see you Darla, Shell and Donna. Anyone having problems posting, I hope you're still able to read messages anyway. I think I’m going to take a walk before it starts snowing. Have a good evening all.

The problem I am having now is pictures missing. I look on my page, and most of the pics I put there now have red X's. I have tried to post pics from my album, and as soon as I hit paste, here comes a red X.

Well, It is time for Dr. Phil. I am hooked now.

I think the North east is in for it this time, as in 2 feet of snow. EEKS. I am in the middle east...
No ouil here either, and gas is headed up again, and FAST....

That should have been NO OIL here. The cats know about the storm I guess. They are knocking everything down and chasing each other.......

Donna i'm having the same problem and the ones in photobucket don't show the whole  picture. Its raining here!

Ok, Kenny passed his physical with flying colors.  He weighs 16 pounds and 1 ounce.  Not bad, huh?  He only needed one shot, his rabies shot.  I told the vet about how wonderful the capsules were and to let other people know about them.  Also the main reason Kenny has lost weight is that for the last 3 years he has been fed more canned food.  Dry food makes them fatter.  In the beginning he ate mostly dry.

Rosie has spent all afternoon on the deck.  She looks like the cat that ate the canary.  But I don't see any feathers!!  I am going to bring her in shortly.  The sun is getting low in the sky.  I talked to the vet about Rosie's future.  She said as long as she doesn't throw a clot she could live indefinitly but she could throw one at any time.  She said her sister is receiving the same treatment as Rosie from the same problems and she is still alive after 3 years and doing well.  It is just when God sees fit to take her.  She is so sweet that worries me, he might just want a kitty like her.  When I say sweet, she is also a little feisty.  She is just the right mix.  I brought her in, fed her and now she wants to play.  That's my girl.

Angie I feel the same way about shopping by myself when I really need or want to buy something.  Recently I wanted to check out this shoe place, I guess like an outlet mall type shoe store, and felt terrible about someone else being with me and not wanting anything.  So I just looked a few minutes and we left.  Oh well.  I think somewhere I have a couple of pics, not very good ones, of a wild rabbit in the back 40.  I don't remember if I was able to post it or not.  I will see if I can find it some where and repost it.

Donna, it is going to get warm.  Today was 59 degrees, how about that.  You will be getting it in a day or so.  We are expecting rain tomorrow and a little cooler, but bearable.

Everybody, have a good evening,

Sugar

Hey, that's the sister's cat, not the vet's sister!

Sugar

Sugar,
The reason why cats get fat on dry food is that it is mainly carbs, and carbs make you fat. They also rot the teeth......

I don't know what the weather here is going to do Sugar. I think it is suppose to rain and snow. I saw on TV that we might get 2 inches. The shore is suppose to get more. Sometimes the weather people are right, and other times they are NOT.

I am still confused about the capsules. You mentioned one of your cats getting 3 meds in the morning? Am I correct in thinking you are turning them to powder and putting them in one capsule? Or, is the capsule a better idea because of the BITTER pill?

good evening all hope all is well with everyone. I picked princess p up from having her spayed, smokey hissed at her when she got home and salem followed her all ove the house and would pat her playfully on the head. But p hasnt been very good since she came home. She has been laying around a lot, she is hardly eating and gags on her food which is making her avoid food. Im keeping close eye on her for dehydration, and any signs of infection. They said they gave her a long acting pain killer that supposedly lasts about 72 hrs. I have been coaxing her to eat since she hasnt been very interested, giving soft canned food. They also said she was already going into heat when i had her done. Salem and snowy have been close to her since she came home. I put blankets down and a lil kids chair with flannel sheets onto the chair inside the barn for the outside kitty plus her food and water are in there, too. Its getting late, i still have to walk missy and get her meds...good night all have a good nite.

Shell, I hope Princess P is feeling better. It's not unusual for cats to eat little and lay around for a day or 2 after surgery. The main thing is to make sure she drinks. Sometimes making catfood soup helps. I mix water into cannd catfood nd stir it into a soup. It doesn't have to be chewed, just lapped like water.

ok thanks karen, i'll try that. I just know its very important to keep her drinking. I figured the soft canned food had moisture in it so she'd get hydration from that.None of my other females that were spayed did this, they were a little slower and didnt eat as much but Princess p hardly ate at all in about 3 days. But she was done at a different place than the others too.

Glad to hear that the princess is home. Karen that is a good idea, and also chicken brother. Mine prefer the home made rather than canned. That pain killer could also be working on her.

I only had one veterinarian that did not know how to spay cats. 10 days after the spay, I took them back and their stitches could not be taken out since they were weeping. I found out later from my vet that was doing a perfect job, that the first vet was not sterilizing the equipment properly, and when I went back to that office after he left, and it was sold, the new people said that the vet that had the place did not even have an operating table.

Now, the last group of cats that were done were done at a low cost at the SPCA in Vineland, and the stitches were the dissolvable kind, and they were perfect.

have a great weekJust stopped in to say hello!

Good morning, all! Hope this finds y'all doing well and with things going great. Things are good here. Have an application to process for the Maine Coon rescue group I volunteer with {that's in addition to the application I assigned to an Adoption Counselor}. Hower, I've got my doubts about this one as she wants a declawed baby! Of course, she won't get a baby from us who's not declawed. At best, she'll be approved for a declawed only kitty which means it'd be an adult most likely; at worst, she'll be denied. Not much else going on here, just my usual, though I do need to do a load of laundry later.

Angie, I hope the storm that hits you isn't that bad. I'm sure the cats do sense its arrival. How cool that you saw rabbit tracks in your yard! It's too bad you couldn't see them and get pictures but at least you know they were there.

Donna, my picture from the Cat Lovers Group {a "proud member of...." picture} was missing from my page yesterday, there was just a red x there like you said. So I had to delete though I don't remember how I did so, I just know it was difficult to do it. Hopefully whatever's wrong it'll be fixed soon so I can put it back on my page. Hopefully th estorm won't be too bad at your place either. From what I understand, the capsules are hollow capsules that you put the pills inside of. It sounds like they hold more than one pill and then you give your cat this capsule which is smooth and goes down better than the chalky pills. OMG, a cat whose stitches were weeping! That's not good. Sounds like that vet wasn't a very good one.

Sandi, good to see you here.

Sugar, glad to here that Kenny passed his physical! Sounds like you also got some relatively good news on Rosie. We'll just have to pray she doesn't throw a clot. It's great news about the vet's sister's cat being alive after 3 years!

Shell, I agree with Karen in that it's really not unusual for a cat to lay around for a few days after surgery, especially the female cats as their surgery is so much more involved than the male's. Just make sure Princess P drinks, she'll eat when she's hungry. The pain pill in her system could have alot to do with how listless she is. I think too that the surgery is a bit more difficult if she was going into heat but don't quote me on that.

Take care everyone and have a fantastic day.

Sandi, you must've been posting your picture of othe faeries as I was writing my post. I love it.

Sugar, glad to hear that Kenny passed his physical.. That's great that you have gotton him to lose some weight. Maybe that's why Alan is so heavy he eats mostly dry food, I have tried every canned food under the sun and he takes 2 licks and walks towards his dry food bowl. That's good to hear that Rosie will be just fine as long as there are no clots, hopefully God will not see a need for her to join him anytime soon.

Anyway, I just wanted to stop in quick and say hi to everyone. I was late for work today because I had to dig out this morning as we got a foot and a half of snow and it's still coming down like crazy, driving was not fun. I hope Angie is ok, I know she got it bad where she lives too.I hope everyone else is ok too.

DROPPING IN TO LET EVERYONE KNOW THAT I WENT TO STORE AND GOT UNFLAVORED PEDIALYTE FOR PRINCESS P. AFTER HER FIRST LIL DOSE OF IT ADDED TO SOME FOOD, SHE PERKED UP A BIT AND WAS PLAYING WITH BABY BOY THE FIRE BALL. I KNEW HER SURGERY WAS MORE EXTENSIVE THAN THE BOYS ARE, SHE JUST ACTED DIFFERENTLY THAN THE OTHER GIRLS. SHE WAS WORRYING ME WHEN SHE SEEMED A LIL WARMER THAN NORMAL AND WOULDNT EAT, AND WASNT DRINKING HARDLY AT ALL. EVERYONE HAVE A GOOD DAY AND STAY SAFE WITH THE SNOW IN CERTAIN PLACES

Donna, Rosie is getting another pill now.  She is now on Atenolol with all the others.  She had another episode this morning.  In fact as I was calling the vet I thought she was dead.  But by the time I finished the call to the vet she came out of it.  Her ears responded to my voice.  Her pills are very small and most are either 1/2, 1/4 and 1/6 of those pills.  So any way I don't grind it up, I just put the pills in the capsule and down they go all together.  I prepare a weeks worth at a time.  So twice a day she gets a capsule with 3 to 4 meds in each.  Also she is likely to not be with me for long.  I knew she wasn't feeling good this morning so I laid down on the sofa with her on my chest.  That's where the episode started.   She's in my bed looking so precious right now.  I don't want to lose her.  And Donna it's a lot easier to medicate with a capsule than 3 and 4 pills!

Princess P I hope you are recovered by now.  Your mom is doing a good job keeping you healthy.  We all send you hugs and kisses and prayer.

I'm emotionally drained.  I thought I might have Rosie longer than this latest prognosis.

Sugar, that capsule idea is surely a good one. Much better than giving 3 pills.

It seems like when some cats go into a deep sleep, they are hard to wake up. I remember way back when we had that old cat named Tom that was a stray that moved over here from his place.

Jimmy went out back, and saw him laying in the sun, and not moving at all. He reached down to touch him, and he didn't move. He bent down to pick him up and he went limp, so Jimmy just let him go when he was almost to the ground. Tom jumped up and scared the heck out of Jimmy. He was only in a deep sound sleep.

Rosie wasn't asleep.  I wish she had been.     she was unconscious for a couple of minutes.  I'm glad Tom was only asleep.  My Tom is deaf and only awakens when I touch him.  He has great vision still.  I don't know why this had to happen to Rosie.  It's going to be like losing Sugar all over again.

Hi Everyone. So sad to here of your sick kitties. Praying for your Rosie, Sugar. I am not around much as I have a eye disorder which won't resolve and  more than 1/2 hr. on line makes them burn and ache. My kitty Savanna has virulent calicivirus. By the time the Vet and I realized what it was, it had spread through most of my kitties. Savann has it the worse with the mouth ulcers,(started Jan4/13). She is still alive, which is a miracle, as the survival rate is 23%. It is feeding every 3-4 hours. She is trying to eat a little on her own, but still needs supplements. The others had 3 -5 days of vomiting, lethargy and sneezing. They are mostly on the mend. They are all vaccinated every year, but the Vet says they can pick it up from a cat in the wild who sneezes close to them, flea dropping or on a humans clothes who has been around a sick kitty, as it can survive on inanimate objects for up to 9 hours. I have to do a lot of washing to try to keep things clean . I was worried about Zena, as she was so young, but she is on the mend. I wanted to thank you for choosing Zena as Kitten of the month. I did not know where to put it.

Big hugs to all; Ann and the Kitties

Hello Everyone. Sorry to hear of the sick kitties. Prayers for your Rosie, Sugar. I am not around much, with a unresolving eye problem. My kitties are sick with the calicivirus, virulent type;survival rate 23%.

Savanna is the worse with mouth ulcer.(started Jan 4/13). Feeds and constant washing to keep the spread down. I thought Savanna would not make it, and she still is not out of the woods. Zena is doing better, as are most of the other kitties. It will be up to another month until  I know what the results are. A very nasty virus, which we vaccinate for, but the virulent type is not stopped by the vaccination.

I also wanted to thank you for making Zena Kitten of the month. She should be going in to be spayed, but can not until she has no symptoms for a month. This is my second post and I am not sure where the other one went, unless I forgot to hit post.

Big hugs to you, Ann and the Kitties

Ann I am so sorry to hear your kitties got that calicivirus but thrilled to hear it looks like they will make it even though Savanna isn't out of the woods yet.  I will keep Savanna and the others in my prayers.  I am not familar with that virus, but I know my cats also are vacinated for everything they are supposed to be.  I do worry that the Black and White Tom who has been living here for over 4 years will some day bring something home like the virulent strain you mentioned.  I think I will say prayers that it doesn't happen.  Please keep us posted about Savanna and everyone else.

Listen I hate to be all the time posting about Rosie, even though she is worth a million posts, I feel anything I learn and share might help someone else someday to make decisions or even recognise what is wrong and knowing some one else has went through it.  After the talk with the vet yesterday I have lost hope of the 3 years or more possibility of having her.  After the vet heard about her 3 episodes she isn't giving me much hope but of course miracles do still occur in the medical field.  I will continue praying and soliciting prayers for her.  She is a perfect mix of sugar and spice.  These episodes are not like seizures as in epilepsy.  Her heart isn't working right and she loses oxygen to her brain.  She gets scared as it starts and starts crying, then panting, than just stretching out, not stiff, just limp.  The first time she panted longer, the second time she lost bladder control and the third time she passed out.  The vet said her heart will not restart at some point.  So far it has.

How's Princess P?  Don't forget we want to know and are waiting for your post.

I would like to say I have lost so much the last 2 to 2 1/2 years.  My husband, friends, and 2 beloved kitties and a dog.  I have 2 kitties who probably won't be with me much longer and I am just devastated thinking about it.  There is nothing I can do to prevent it either though I am doing what ever I can.  I'm hoping Tom lives long enough to enjoy the deck and Spring sunshine for a while.  He loves the sunny deck and can't understand why it is so cold and dreary now.  He goes out for a few minutes and comes right back in.  He wants to know where the sunshine is.

Any way I apologize if I am making anyone uncomfortable discussing our medical problems but they are foremost in my mind at this time.  I will get over it, but never forget it either.

Teri, I really do know what you are going through.  My friend is having a terrible time getting the right fit on her leg.  She has some kind of garment like a 3/4 length girdle at the moment, but it causes her leg to hurt.  She hasn't mentioned the itching yet, but I bet it will happen if she leaves the garment on long enough.  She takes it off and leaves it off too long.  The wrapping the PT used to do for her also fell down in no time and she has no one to re-wrap it but her son and she says it is so embarassing to have him wrap it.  Also he doesn't want to do it and so she would go without that too and no wonder her leg just can't get under control.  Did the doctor ever tell you what caused the lymph nodes to go haywire.  She doesn't know why her's are.

I almost lost this post, I am posting now before I do.

Hi Sugar,
You had mentioned that the vet said there will be a time when Rosssssie's heart will just stop. Have you asked the vet how you can jump start it on your own? I think there is CPR for animals as well as humans.....

I am trained in people CPR, but I have decided that restarting her heart, even if I could, would not solve the problem.  It is inevitable that she will die soon because of her sick heart.  It will happen again and again and one of those times I might be gone and no where near her to try to restart it.  Her heart is damaged and nothing can fix it.  If I was a billionaire I might try to get her a new heart.  The meds she is taking will keep her here for a few more weeks maybe.  I will just love her for now and let her go when it happens.  But thanks for suggesting it Donna.  Prayer is her only real hope now.

Sugar, I was taught cat and dog CPR and there are times when it can literally save lives. I think you are correct to not try to restart dear Rosie's poor heart. Sometimes it is kinder to give our babies peace.

Sugar, know that I'm praying for Rosie everyday, and you can comment on her everyday as far as I'm concern. I know you love all your pets and have lost so many. Just know my thoughts and prayers are with you for all of them.

Good afternoon, all! Hope this finds y'all doing well and with things going great. Things are good here. Speeent most of yesterday on the phone and the computer ~ working for the Maine Coon rescue group I volunter with. This morning I did the write-up for the application I worked yesterday and now the group will vote on it. Nothing much else going on here, just my usual.

Michela, sorry you were late for work. Wow, a foot and a half of snow! I cannot even imagine. It's 62F and raining here today but in the past week we've had temps in the 80's! That's winter in this part of Texas.

Shell, sorry to hear Princess P is still not eating/drinking. Pedialyte is a good thing to do. Have you spoken to the vet about her?

Sugar, I'm so very sorry that Rosie had another episode and that it was so bad. I can imagine how hard this must be for you. You've had alot of losses the past couple years. You can talk about Rosie all you want to here. I'm sorry that you might not have Rosie much longer. Just enjoy the time you have with her like you've been doing. Know too that you and Rosie are in my thoughts and prayers. I too think it'd be kinder to just let Rosie go if her heart gives out even though it'll be hard on you. It must've been so scary when she was unconscious. As for Tom, I'll keep him in my prayers too that he lives alot longer and gets to enjoy the deck in the summertime.

Teri, glad you made your appointment though I'm sorry to hear that you're already having trouble with the sleeves. It is good that when the sleeves are on there's no pain. Hopefully they'll get the sleeves fixed so you can wear them. It's great that Michelle shoveled the deck and walk.

Donna, how weird that your Tom slept that deep. I can imagine that Jimmy really freaked out!

Ann, good to see you here. Sorry about your eyes and your cats. I had to look up calcivirus b'cuz I was not familiar with it. I'm glad that some of your cats are pulling out of it though I'm sorry about Savanna. I'll keep your cats in my prayers.

Sandi and Karen, good to see y'all here.

Take care everyone and have a fantastic day.

I'm sorry Ann that I didn't mention your eye problem. I want to let you know I am sorry you have that problem.  What is wrong if you don't mind telling us and what does the doctor say about it?

Here's Punkin, gotta go,

Hi Everyone. Prayers for you and your Kitties.

Sugar, Rosie sounds so sweet. My daughter had a kitty named

Precious with the same problem. She kept her going on meds for 1/2

a year before she started failing. I agree that sometimes it is kinder to them. to let God take them home, but so very hard on us.

My eyes have puntated kerititis. My lacrimal ducts and lipid ducts have also quit working. The specialist thinks it is a virus that attacked them, but could be the start of Sjoren's  disease,(autoimmune disorder that attacks all the glands in the body). They test me every so often for the Sjoren's. Because there is no fluid to nourish the eyes and keep them moist, the punctation (holes), in the cornea will not heal. Makes my vision a little wonky at times, but mostly, even with drops they ache and burn and computers are one of the worst thing for mine. The light gives me sharp pain after a a very short time. I have not worked in 2 months as there is a lot of computer work at the hospital.

Poor Savanna now has the ulcers on her nose. She refuses to even look at food, so I will have to start feeding her a little every 2 hours. At present I am brewing some catnip tea to see if it will help her stomach and calm her.

Terresamari, I hope they get those sleeves straightened out for you.

Hugs to all. Time to get off the computer and feed some kitties.

PS: I see both posts showed up;

Sugar, I am so sorry to hear that Rosie had another episode, I hope she is resting comfortably now. You can talk about Rosie as much as you want, she is such a sweet girl and we love hearing about her. I will continue to keep you both in my prayers.

Ann, I'm sorry to hear about the problems with your eyes and that all your kitties are sick that is just terrible. I am not familiar with that disease either. I will also keep you and your kitties in my prayers. Update us as you can.

Shell, how is Princess P doing? I hope she is feeling better and eating more now. Spaying is so much more invasive than neutering, the boys are lucky in that sense.

Darla, yes it was a lot of snow and it took us a while to clear it all out. Today it was beautiful and sunny but it was cold so the snow is still all here. It is certainly warm there in Texas, we won't have those temps here for a while.

Teri, I hope that you can get re-sized for your sleeves very soon, it's great that they did help when you had them on. Once you get the right size hopefully you will have less pain and you will feel more comfortable. I am happy that Michelle is there to help you shovel the snow.

Sandi, I love the picture of the cat and the deer cuddling, it is so cute.

Sally, I am sorry about that terrible experience you had with the chicken hitting your windshield. I am relieved that you and your husband were not hurt. It is terrible when animals get hit, if you couldn't find it hopefully that means it wasn't hurt too bad and it will survive. Many years ago I was driving with my mom and stepfather and a snowy owl hit our windshield we got out and looked everywhere for it and never found it, I hope that means it was okay as they are magnificent.

Donna, wow that must have been quite the surprise for Jimmy with your cat Tom, he must have been really tired to be in such a deep sleep.

My picture of Alan is very small so I will have to learn how to enlarge them first. Does anyone have any pointers on how to do that?

Everyone have a great night

I love it, Sandi.  Really an adorable picture!

Your Alan's a handsome boy, Michela!  So glad that you were able to post a picture of him for us to see.

Sugar, I am so sorry Rosie has had another episode.  You are both very much in my prayers.

Teri, sorry to hear about the lymphodema problem.  I hope they can help you with the sleeve.  I only have mild lymphodema problems - it's just uncomfortable, not painful - but there are days I get so frustrated with it!  So I really hope they can help.

Ann, I am praying for your kitties.

Sorry for short post.  We've had a hot week here and everyone is very tired from it.  After a while of hot weather, I just can't think very well.

I pray all of you who are getting lots of snow are keeping safe and warm.

Val

PS Beautiful cats posted in this thread!

I read all the posts, but don't always respond to all of them.  But know I read them.  Ann I now know what you  are going through.  I just recently heard about this problem from a friend of mine.  Her name is Song of the Mountain.  She is an Indian, a Cherokee.  Of course now I think it is PC that you say Native American though she calls herself an Indian.  She has the problem where her immune system is attacking her eyes.  She got a biopsy Friday afternoon to see if her treatment is working.  She is supposed to keep away from as many people as possible for her protection as docs are suppressing her immune system right now.  She wears a mask when she goes out among people.  I will let you know more as I learn about it.  You know, the older I get the more I hear of diseases that were totally unknown to me before.  Like my friend with the edema problem.  I never heard of that until last year.  I think we need lots of prayers here on the care2 cat lover's board to help all of us.  Prayers do help.

Michela, Alan is a handsome boy.  Cats are so impressive.  I cannot understand anyone who doesn't like cats.  Have you ever see Too Cute on the Animal Plantet?  All those little ones and their precious little feet.  I think I have a fondness for kitten/cat feet.  I love it when Rosie puts her little foot on my face as does Kenny and Punkin.  It is like they trust me completely.

Hello to everyone else, and Sandi tell Stripes Mouse loves him too.  And bye the way, I hope Stripes doesn't mind a little fat on Mouse.  I can't believe how much he has put on.  He is on his way to being another kenny.

Just got home from the pet store I got this great toy that is a remote control mouse. It runs on a couple of batteries and you charge it and then it runs on wheels under it. I got it for all the furkids but I am hoping it will keep Alan active to help him lose some weight. So far he seems to love it, Madaline was unimpressed with it, see walked away.

Thank-you for your nice comments on Alan, I just love him so much. When I learn how to enlarge I will post pictures of everyone else too.

Good afternoon, all! Hope this finds y'all doing well and with things going great. Things are good here. Ray went to the grocery store this morning and brought me back a bag of Hugs! Not much going on here, just my usual. Care2 is running slow or something {it did the same thing yesterday}, my posts show up when I first do them but then they're not there. If it's like yesterday, they'll eventually show up as mine from yesterday are there but it sure is frustrating.

Sugar, great to see you here. I agree with you that prayers help and alot of prayers are needed here.

Ann, sorry you might have Sjogren's. It would be a terrible thing to have. I'm familiar with it b'cuz I've been tested for it. I'm sorry you're unable to work. Are you going to apply for disability? I'm sorry too about Savanna. Will keep y'all in my prayers.

Sandi, love the picture of the deer and the cat. The "Good Morning" picture is adorable.

Michela, I'll bet it took you awhile to dig out the snow. I hope you have no serious complications from all that snow. As for me, I'll keep my warm temps, I couldn't handle snow like that. Love the picture of Alan ~ he's a big, handsome guy! He looks so adorable with his big mouse.

Betty, great to see you here.

Val, sorry you're having so much trouble with the heat. Extreme weathe rof either type is hard to deal with.

Karen, great to see you here.

Donna, thanks for making Michela's picture of Alan bigger.

Take care and have a fantastic day.

Michela, your other posts must've happened while I was writing mine b'cuz they werne't there when I started my post. Hope Alan likes the remote control mouse. Let me know how it goes as I've seen them and thought about getting it but haven't yet. It'd be great to have a review of it first! Teddy is a beautiful cat. Poor guy, he really did have a rough start in life though I'm sure he's had it great since he's been with you.

Michela , Teddy is a cutie. He does not look 18 yrs old, but maybe he isn't 18 in this picture? He looks like Alan.  I also have a cat with an ear hematoma. I had a cat with one years ago, and had it drained, and she looked kind of cute with one flapping ear.

I took the guy I have now in to the vet when it started, and the vet said  it was all grissle now, that there was no blood to drain. The thing has  the hole in his ear covered. Cats will get them from ear mites, and if they shake their head too hard.

Hi Everyone. Thanks for all the kind words.

Sandi I love that pic of the kitty and deer. So sweet.

Michelle. Alan is very handsome. I hope that new toy works for him. I might get one from Scrappy Doo; he needs a little slimming Nice work Screamingbelle on enlargeing Alan's pic.

Teddy is adorable and  18 years old with FIV is remarkable. His Mom must take very good care of him. I have a friend, who has a farm and she takes in FIV kitties. They have warm lodgings, food and lots of love.

Sugar I will keep Song of the Mountain in my thoughts and prayers, as well as Rosie.

Lots of hugs and love to all. Time to get off the computer.

PS: No I am not on disability yet. I am going to try some shifts in March. Keep your fingers crossed.

Hi everyone!  I'm losing posts left and right so I will keep this short.  Such great cat pictures....you all have such beautiful/handsome furkids.  Scrappy Doo and Alan are the same round shape as my Roxy.  Roxy is 6 years old and her favorite activities are eating and sleeping also.  Lately though, Bnadit has gotten up alot of nerve and hangs out all over the house now...fearlessly dodging Savanna, who still treats her like prey and chases her all over the place  Bandit is a year old now, I figure anyway, and last week, Savanna was chasing her around the dining room table and all of a sudden Bandit stopped. She turned around and growled at Savanna and holy smokes, she scared me    The look on Savanna's face was priceless and she sat looking at Bandit for a good 5 mintutes.  Then she turned around and found a spot in the sunshine under the window in the other room and that was that.  I knew Bandit would grow up eventually....it brought a tear to my eye.

We ended up getting alot of snow the other day....about a foot and a half I think.  I was so glad I didn't have to drive in it.  I went out Saturday to dig out my car but I had to give up after about an hour because I couldn't feel my fingers anymore. Thank goodness the plow guy came and cleared the driveway or I'd still be trying to shovel my way out.  The temperatures are supposed to go up tomorrow and bring some rain to melt all this snow...that should be a nice mess.  LOL.  I just want spring to get here....sooner instead of later!!

Anyway, I guess I should stop tempting fate and post this message if I can.  I will say a prayer for all the furbabies and furmoms who aren't feeling too well.  By the way, although I didn't get a bunny picture the other day, my neighbour did!!  I ran into her at the grocery store today and she had it on her phone.  I had her email it to me so I can post it on the Wildlife and Scenery thread.  I still want to get my own bunny picture but until then, this is the next best thing!  Have a good evening everyone....purrs to the kitties!!

Donna, I took that picture of Teddy about a year ago so he was probably 17 at the time, we don't know his actual age, that is what the vet estimated. 2 years ago she told me he was probably about 16 so I am going from that. We have had him for 10 years and before that he was owned by someone who bred Pit Bulls and he used to let the dogs chase Teddy around all the time. His ear was bit many years ago so there is no hematoma in there now. Since I took that picture he has lost weight and takes pain medication for the arthritis in his hips and front leg. He sleeps a lot now too.

Ann, Scrappy Doo is such a cutie and Zena is so beautiful.

Angie, I was thinking about you when I was digging out of the snow because I saw on the news that your area got a lot too. Glad to hear that your driveway was cleaned, we have a snowblower so my husband cleaned our driveway and the neighbours driveway as they are elderly.

Darla, I noticed that Care 2 was slow over the weekend, it seems to be better today.

Teri, it sound like you have a very busy week coming up, I hope that you don't have too hard of a time. Let us know how it goes with the side by side you are looking at.

Sugar, unfortunately I don't get Animal Planet I would have to pay extra to get it. I love cat feet too they are so cute and the pads are so soft.

Everyone have a great day.

I really enjoyed my breakfast this morning.  Along with the food I got a good helping of kitty cat pictures.  If I had to choose only one for my favorite I couldn't.  I usually am partial to the older kitties cause they seem to have so much personality, but younger ones are just so much fun to watch.  Thanks for all the pics and news.

Hey Savanna, how does it feel to have a grown up brother.  You will begin to appreciate him.

Thanks Teri, you have helped me with something I had not realized.  My mom had breast cancer many years ago and her arm on that side also swelled really big.  That cancer operation is probably what caused it.  But this friend of mine that has it now, didn't have anything like cancer surgery.  Something else must have caused it.  Good luck on a side by.  Extra good eyes can help see if it is a good buy.

I'm going.  Rosie went outside.  It is sunny but windy and I want to keep an eye out for her.  I keep an eye on her all the time.  No more episodes since Friday morning.  Here's Rosie.  She looks black, but has a red look to her fur.  Not from licking, but from Mother nature.  Her vet says she is mahogany.

Good afternoon, all! Hope this finds y'all doing well and  with things going great. Things are good here. Not much going on here, just my usual. Care2 seems to be working properly today with regards to the posts. We sure were busy busy here.

Donna, great to see you here.

Ann, I hope you get those shifts you want and that everything works out. Scrappy Doo is such a handsome cat and Zena is growing into a tru beauty. Thanks for sharing their pictures.

Angie, sorry you're losing posts. That's quite a story about Savanna and Bandit! It's always great when the  underdog finally stands up for her/himself. My cat, Osiris, usually  runs from the other cats when they come around him but every once-in-awhile when he's had enough {of one cat in particular who gives him a hard time}, he'll stay put and stand up for himself. I always cheer. Wow, a foot and a half of snow! No wonder your fingers went numb, all that snow and cold. I'm glad the plow came by and got y'all dug out. I'm glad your neighbor got a bunny picture and shared it with you. Will look for it in the Wildlife thread.

Teri, I'm so sorry that you had all those conditions that led to your lymphadema. I guess at least it's good to know the cause rather than to be in the dark about it like Sugar's friend. Yes, an extra pair of eyes would be great in looking at the side by side. Hope y'all can get it. Sounds like y'all have everything worked out for living there. Does Michelle have a job?

Michela, poor Teddy to be chased around by dogs who bit him. It's a wonder he made it. I'm glad he's with you now as he seems very content in his picture. At age 18 it's quite natural that he would sleep alot. My 12.5 year odl cat sleeps alot too. Yes, Care2 was having some issues over the weekend but they seem to be cleared up now. At least the posts are posting as they should.

Sugar, glad you enjoyed your breakfast and kitty pictures. Shasta was in a cute position with the scratching post the other day but when I went to get the camera she moved. Ray said it was b'cuz I moved and she followed me, that I should've asked him to go get the camera. Oh well, maybe next time. Rosie is a beautiful girl, thanks for the picture.

Sandi, that's so funny that you had to go chase Stripes to get her in.

Take care everyone and have a fantastic day.

Helen, your post wasn't here when I began mine. I agree with you that big cats are great. We have a tuxedo cat who is 18-20 pounds.

I just took several pictures of Rosie.  I just can't believe she has that ticking time bomb in her little body.  She has been going in and out all day.  She and Chewy have been hunting field mice.  They haven't found any yet, but I hope she does.  One good thing with Chewy for a body guard I don't have to worry about Mouse or Little Joe attacking her and both will.  Not violently but an attack nevertheless and she doesn't need that right now.  She was up in the apple tree when I decided to go get my camera and take some pics.  Of course she was down by the time I put the old battery on charge and put the other in.

The year of Rosie's heart

Noss and Stripes, see how nice it can be to have a good dog buddy.  But sometimes it isn't so good.  When Rosie hides so I can't give her meds, I just tell Chewy to 'find Rosie' and she is as good as found.

Hi Michela, Sandi, Helen and Darla.  I don't think I forgot any one.  I wanted to post Rosie's new pics before I lost the post.  I held Rosie for a nap earlier and then I let her out again.  She's soaking up sunshine out of the wind on the deck right now.  She went hunting with Chewy for a little while.  Even climbed a tree and stretched out and did her nails.  She ate good this morning and I still can't believe how bad her heart is and I don't know what caused it.  Life can sure throw you for a loop when you are least expecting it.  With Pudge and Girl Dog I expected it at any time and with Tom I know it is not too long, but not my little 12 year old Rosie who is, or so I thought, in the prime of her life.  So love your babies and play with them as much as you can.  They will love it and so will you.

good afternoon all, this week end wasnt a very good 1, i tried to take baby boy to petco for their low cost shot clinic, but the car we had been borrowing broke down about 2 miles from where we had to go on a VERY busy stretch of highway, I had to call a friend to come get us. Hubby went to get it last night after work. The cars fuel pump went bad and its $254. Luckily a friend let us borrow his truck for a few days. Going to make it very hard to get this car fixed, with my hubby working 13 hrss a day and has worked 7 days straight right now and still has until saturday to go yet.

I thried to post yesterday but lost the post so i figured id just try again today.

Princess p is doing quite a bit better, it took her a full 5 days before she would even attempt to eat anything except soft food.
