Please use this thread to check in with us! We want to know if you -- and your furbabies -- are safe!
From Lafayette, Indiana....
I'm doing okay and feeling very fortunate. I've plenty of food in the house -- including cat food. I have heat and electricity. (I've been praying for the thousands of people who have lost power.)
The current temperature here is -13. That'll probably be our high for the day. Still having very strong gusty winds. Winds are gusting 25 -35 mph. That's sending the wind chills down to -40 and -45 at times. Winter storm Ion dropped about 10 inches of snow on us. (We already had 5 inches on the ground.) Of course the very windy conditions have caused a lot of blowing and drifting. Many roads in the area, including I-65, are closed. All schools and many businesses are closed. Even government offices are closed here today.
I'm thankful to be safe in my warm home. Those who are less fortunate are in my prayers.
Checking in its -14 here, couldn't get out the back door as the high winds drifted snow in , went out the front and walk around. out long enough to unblock door, too cold to stay out for long. Have plenty of food for me and the fur kids in and outdoor ones. no school here. Glad I have power, praying for the ones who don't. Stay warm and if you must go out dress warm. Love to all.
That is Illinoise Sandy????
OK, Here in New Jersey it is a roasting hot 40 degrees with rain. The snow melted. I got off the stove. It wasn't on anyway.
yes it in Illinois. wow 40 out sent it here, ha ha!
Some improvement in my area.... Still very cold this morning. Temperature currently at -14. But, this afternoon it could climb all the way up to 9 above zero! We are still under a Wind Chill Warning until this evening. However, the winds do seem to be calming down a bit.
Still praying for everyone who has been in the path of this brutal winter storm.
Penny, what a wonderful picture. Some thing to treasure for ever.
We have less than 24 hours now to suffer this merciless cold and wind chill. I had stocked up on lots of food for all and litter too. I am worried about Black and White though. I caught him walking outside with a purpose early yesterday evening and went out with warmed food and called him back. He ate in the garage and jumped in his bed but this morning he isn't here. Say a little prayer for him. I keep checking for him.
Donna I hope this weather doesn't go your way. It is the worst in a long time. I still favor global warming over global cooling. In the past global warmings has produced some of the most glorious growth of plants and animals. Global cooling is a killer of life.
-6 now with water pipes frozen. we don't like this winter says Stripes.
To everyone in the affected areas - BE SAFE!
London, Ontario, Canada
It is -26 C or (-15F) today very cold and windy feeling like -40 C with the wind chill. Thankfully we do have heat and electricity and lots of kitty food but I have to leave everyday to go to work. My car did not want to go this morning but eventually went. Got about a foot of snow on top of the 6 inches that we already had, very much like Betty's area. I filled up all my feeders this morning but feel so bad for all the animals outside. Didn't see any of my ferals yesterday and I am so worried about them, I really hope they have found warm places to sleep but they need to eat and drink too. I am sending prayers out for all the people that are less fortunate and don't have electricity. I hope everyone here is ok.
Glad to hear that you're okay, Michela. I, too, have been so worried about all animals -- both domestic and our wonderful wildlife. I'm very thankful I've seen no neighborhood pets outside. I did notice some rabbit tracks earlier today -- alongside my garage where the snow hadn't drifted too deeply. I also saw a squirrel trying to scurry along the top of the snow-capped fence. I've a snow drift across my back door. But, if I can push the door open later this afternoon, I want to set out some food for any animals who are able to get to it.
I'm blaming my computer for all kinds of mistakes, and it could be care2. I just lost a post.
9 degrees this morning. Wind chill -5. Feels colder with that wind.
In my area of Virginia it was -2 degrees early this morning. The high for the day was 12 degrees. According to the forecast it should begin to warm up some tomorrow. i certainly hope they are correct!
Everyone stay safe and warm!
Good afternoon Betty, Sandi, Donna, Penny, Sugar, Cindy, Michela, and Karen G, So good to see everyone safe for the time being, This is a great way for everyone to check in with each other and let us know you are safe and sound, because this stuff is so dangerous and life threatening, These brutal temps, and wind chills, Most of the country is not use to dealing with this, and they are not prepared. You all keep being safe and check on all of the members that do not check in that we know, Has anyone heard from Jen from New Mexico???? Does any one have here Email address away from care 2 that we could write and check on her. She was ill before Thanksgiving and they found out it was her apartment that was making her sick,so she was looking to move, but that was the last time I heard from her. I am worry, because she has 2 or more pets to worry about also. Oh well I will keep praying that all is well with her and her pets and that she finds a nice warm safe place to move that would be good for her breathing problem, I will close now, see you all later I hope, in case I will say Good Night and Sweet Dreams Now. Sincerely Kay M.
Stay warm, dear friends! Here +5C without any snow. Abnormality! There are several lilacs at the Lavra garden are about to bloom. Some people from suburbs told about green onion and garlic sprouting from the soil in their gardens. Go figure...
Thank you Betty! Checking in from Long Island, NY: It was 7 degrees today. Brrrrrrrr My husband Arnie, I and our furry kids are safe and warm though...thankfully temps go up about 7 degrees each day and will reach 50 by Saturday. My heart breaks for a kitty who looked into our den door and then ran away when Arnie opened it to let him in It is not the first time he has looked in! I'm praying for all the kitties out there who do not have a warm place to call home.
Hugs everyone, and stay warm!!
