People often assume or refer to abuse as only aphysical aspect that has been committed in one persons conscious state.  What about the other forms of absuse?

I would consider any form of either physical or mental abuse most often with intent, ut many times unknowingly as well, a form of animal abuse.

Yesterday, I was out with my sister and nephew, and on the way home, we witnessed a hit and run of a wild bobcat, or something close to one.  I made her pull over and went to see what I could do.  The cat died immediately, but i noticed a small trickle of blood from somewhere that shouldnt have been bleeding.  This cat was pregnant.  I actually had to birth 6 live kittens to a dead mother.  Unfortunately one died about an hour later.

Regardless of what people think, this was abuse o.  I know we dont always have control of, especially wild, animals jumping out in front of our vehicles.  But damn, they could have stopped.  There was absolutely no mistaking that this guy hit that cat.  There is no way he couldnt have known.  So not only did I see it as abuse tothe por mother that died, but to the kittens as well who started their lives earlier than they were supposed to and without a momm.

Just for information, the 5 living kitties are doing well, eating formula frombottles and have all been cleared from a vet.   Thank Mother Bature for small miracles.

OMG....I'm so sad to hear that the mother was hit, thank GOD he put U there 4 the babies.  I live in the county and have taken many dogs and cats to the vet.  People R so cruel to hit a animal and never pull over to help.  It just turns my stomach.  [ send green star]

so happy to know you were there to help those kittens they would have died without the mother ,yes that is cruel and abuse if you can hit an animal and just walk away from it.Your a good and kind person we need more who would do the same thing as you did.

Good job Rob.  What are you going to do with them?  Where are you located?  Do you have a plan for a sanctuary for them or somewhere where they can be taught to survive on their own?  Here in California there are a few places that teach the animals to survive and then release.

Thanks,

Angel

Angelwolf, I have the kitties with me now.  I am working with a few different animals where I am staying at this time.  One is a Florida panther that was shot just above the collar bone.  Underwent surgery and just found she is also expecting any day now.  Just hope the kitties are ok after all the treatment.

I am licensed as a rehabber for both domestic and wild animals, and have my own sanc being set up, so right now, everything is good.

Peace and blessings..Rob

Wow Rob, as has been said already, how terrible the mother had to die, and that alone might not of been the driver of the cars fault or responsibilty, but not stopping ! That was, they are probably the same kind of person that would run over your pet cat or dog and just leave it there too. I dont know if animals count, when not stopping at the scene of an accident, but they should. Thank the gods, that you were there, and helped those poor babies, your story though sad, confirms my belief that there are so many people in this world that do care and will do what they can. May you be blessed with lots of love in your life for all you do.   [ send green star]

Thank you.  I do know that at least in some parts of Florida, a hit and run to animals is just as bad as one to any otheraccident.  While it is almost impossible to say it as a vehicular manslaghter, animal neglect and abuse can be added to the already existent charges of reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident.  So hipefully this one goes down and sets an example for people who dont believe it an happen.  [report anonymous abuse]

When I'm feeling down... April 28, 2006 5:36 PM

There are days when I get so down and so frustrated because I can't save them all..."a little pet in desperate need of rescue- was not....because I went to work. Those 3 lab pups were euthanized...because I needed sleep. The rescue group didn't get there soon enough....because I didn't check my email." Some of us care too much while others go about rampaging  through life not paying attention and not concerning themselves with the feelings or well-being of others.

Then I read your story about saving those babies because You were There and you Cared. The timing was right and tiny lives will get a chance to live and experience their purpose here. Some people are heroes only if "they're on and the cameras are rolling." People like you do this because their hearts are innately sweet and good. I believe in my heart the babies' Mama knows too and will feel eternally thankful for your regard and mercy.

I have heard deeds such as this are followed by a blessing or a guardian angel. "Oh, that was the curtain brushing against my arm not a paw." For those who don't believe our mercy is rewarded by the protection of those to whom we have offered mercy...."A guardian's presence is a small miracle where God prefers to remain anonymous."

Keep us posted on your babies,
MaryG.
