We are an environmental activist group. Our central purpose is to work on Wilderness issues and to gain permanent protection for the Roadless Areas-- over 58 million acres nationwide. We are also interested in all other environmental issues, especially Endangered Species Protection, Wildlife Management, Global Warming, Energy, and Rainforest Protection.
We post a lot of petitions here, and we also try to have a good time. Environmental or outdoor related Songs, Stories, News, Humor, and Poetryare always welcome. And Bush Bashing is one of our favorite passtimes...
You'll find that this is one of the nicest groups of people on care2, so introduce yourself and check out the old introduction threads to see who your friends are....
Supported by millions of Americans, the Roadless Area Conservation Rule protects more than 58 million acres of America's wild forests for generations to enjoy.

I always tell everyone,"Help us make it the kind of group you really want to be in." There's no rules here, really, just good folks sharing their concerns about our environment. Thanks to everyone for participating!
And thanks for the links, Michael-- I hope everyone checks them out. And I hope our new members will check out the old "blue-pinned" threads to get a sense of what this group is all about...

I'm pleased to be invited to this group. Doing what I can to save what is left of the wild areas, as well as the 'critters' that live there is my main life's goal. I grew up on a farm in mid Michigan which was surrounded by deep woods - I spent every possible moment there, under the trees, 'speaking' with birds, listening to the quiet thoughts of trees. Most of that is all gone now. I moved away, the farm was divided up, the trees torn down and turned to lawn. Sixteen years ago I moved back and managed to buy just a couple acres of the farm. I have slowly returned it to the woods - leaving some areas completely to nature, and some semi controlled (near my house). I've saved a bit of Mother, but it's no where near enough! I look forward to joining this group of like-minded people. Together we can accomplish so much.
To Kathleen, Marilyn and Carrie, and to our other new members!
Make yourselves at home, feel free to share with us all your environmental concerns, and remember that we believe in having a good time here, too. This is a great group of people and we're glad that you have joined us.
Thank you Rosemary for inviting me to this group. I love our national parks and so I had to join even though I belong to way too many groups already that I have no time to visit or participate in. I love the concept for this group and support it 100%. I have visited many of our parks because I've been in all 50 states. Their beauty should be maintained for future generations and encroached on by the government's desire to drill, mutilate, build more roads, fool w/the balance of nature, or otherwise spoil nature's bounty. I'm glad to be here the few times I can be.

Hi folks - good to see you all. I am happy to join the wild party.
We live in the north of Scotland, not a wild place by any means but a little closer to nature's beauty than some and enough to calm my soul and charge me with the will to do good, to save our planet and to help humans connect with their environment. We have a slight absence of trees here, thanks to human intervention and fields of grass but we also have lots of Neolithic archaeology which helps keep us rooted in our ancestors world. It is my job to share this with visitors and to teach some survival skills, which will be coming in useful now we are cooking the planet and skinning it alive. All who share in this groups mission are friends of mine. Thank you and best wishes - Malcolm
Thanks for joining us and thanks for the enthusiasm. It's been my experience that I've always been able to find some wildness left everywhere I've been. But times are changing and we'll have to work harder and harder to keep it that way.
We have a lot of new members this week, and welcome to you all!
I hope that those of you with DSL will check out the video I found of the great Edward Abbey on the new Film Festival thread, and post some videos of your own!

Name's Cozy and I am proud to have been invited here. (Thanks Arch) I have collected signatures door to door for 3 different petitions saving national parks like Keystone in Alberta as well as standing up to the logging companies in our local areas. I'm sure that I will have a blast here with all of you.
