Lejuez said that no witnesses have reported seeing the men with Holloway. "In my opinion, there is no evidence whatsoever that they are involved in the disappearance of Natalee," he said.

Meanwhile, the common-law wife of one of the men said she and he were together continuously during the time Holloway disappeared. She told reporters that she and Jones went to a concert that night and returned home together. She said Jones was sick later that night, but showed up for work the next day at 7 a.m.

Two security guards have been detained by Aruba authorities in connection with the case of an Alabama high school graduate who was reported missing last Monday when she failed to show up for her flight back home. Aruba authorities have requested the assistance of a special FBI drive team trained to search in rocky surf.

The two men, who worked as security guards at a closed hotel near the Holiday Inn at which Natalee Holloway and her classmates were staying during their senior trip to the Caribbean island, were not among the three "persons of interest" who admitted to giving Holloway a ride from a nightclub last Sunday.

"We are at this moment right in the middle of the investigation," Attorney General Caren Janssen told reporters. "There may be others involved. I can't tell you the details why they are suspects. That would be damaging to the investigation."

Police arrested the two men at two different residences early Sunday. They seized bags of evidence and both locations and seized three vehicles in order to conduct forensic tests.

The police had searched the hotel where the security guards worked on Saturday. The hotel was closed for renovations.

The two men can be held up to 48 hours before being charged. Police are not saying whether they have any information on the location of Holloway, an honor student who earned a full scholarship to the University of Alabama.

All roads around San Nicolas where a bloody mattress was found have been closed as police continue to investigate. The mattress will reportedly undergo testing.

Aruba Closes Natalee Holloway Investigation Authorities in Aruba have officially closed the investigation into the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway without bringing any charges against anyone. Aruban prosecutors said they had exhausted all of their resources to solve the case, but did not find enough evidence to charge anyone.

"The public prosecutor's office and the police have gone the extra mile and have exhausted all their powers and techniques in order to solve the mystery of the disappearance of the girl," prosecutors said. They said Joran van der Sloot, Deepak and Satish Kalpoe had been notified that no charges would be filed.

On Nov. 23, 2007, 18-year-old Kansas college student Emily Sander was last seen leaving a bar with a 24-year-old man. Her body was found six days later about 50 miles east of El Dorado. The case gained national attention when it was discovered that Sander led a secret life in Internet pornography as Zoey Zane.

Man Pleads Not Guilty in Zoey Zane Case

Aug. 28, 2009
A man accused of killing a Kansas college student who had a secret life as an Internet porn model has entered a not guilty plea to her murder. Israel Mireles will face trial on charged of capital murder, rape and aggravated criminal sodomy in the death of 18-year-old Emily Sander.  [ send green star]

 October 03, 2009 6:41 AM

The plea came after a preliminary hearing found that prosecutors had enough evidence to put Mireles on trial.

Prosecutors told the court that the capital murder charge was justified because evidence showed that 18-year-old Emily Sander was alive while she was being tortured, raped and sodomized.

During the preliminary hearing, two witnesses said they saw Sander leave the bar on the night of Nov. 23, 2007 with Mireles. They said she was smiling and seemed relaxed. She said she would be back later. They also testified that they saw Mireles, 26, trying to pick up other women that night at the bar.

"She seemed happy. ... She just said she would be back. She seemed all right," said Tommy Juarez, the doorman at the bar.

Blood splatter was found in Mireles' motel room. Her body was found six days later about 50 miles from the El Dorado bar. Mireles was arrested in Mexico and fought extradition.

None of the evidence presented at the preliminary hearing indicated that Sander's secret life as Internet porn model "Zoey Zane," had anything to do with her rape and murder.

Thursday November 29, 2007

A Kansas college student, who has been missing since last Friday and who is believed to be the victim of foul play, apparently lived a double life as an Internet porn star. Investigators looking into the disappearance of Emily Sander, 18, say the teenager was also a porn star named Zoey Zane.

UPDATE: A body found about 50 miles east of El Dorado, Kansas, Thursday is believed to be that of missing college student Emily Sander. Authorities refused to give details about the discovery of the body or what condition it was in. An autopsy is scheduled.

Family members have confirmed that nude photos of Sander posted to the Web site were in fact Emily Sander and friends at Butler Community College confirmed that Sander was involved in Internet porn.

"She enjoyed it. She is a young teenage girl and she wanted to be in the movies and enjoyed movies. She needed the extra money," Nikki Watson, a close friend of Sander's told reporters. "Nobody in El Dorado knew besides her close friends."

A massive search was launched last weekend for Sander, who was last seen leaving a bar with a man identified at 24-year-old Israel Mireles. Investigators said the two met that night at the bar. Sander's car was found the next day in the parking lot of the bar.

When Mireles did not show up for work at a restaurant the next day, his boss went looking for him at a nearby motel where he was staying. The motel room appeared to be the scene of a struggle and a large amount of blood was in the room. Authorities began a manhunt for Mireles (left) and his 16-year-old girlfriend, Victoria Martens (right).

A rental car Mireles was driving was found in Texas Tuesday where Mireles has relatives. Police believe Mireles may be headed to Mexico.

Authorities have not established if Sander's pornography efforts had any connection with her disappearance. Sander was paid 45 percent of the revenue generated by the paid membership site. Investigators said the site had 30,000 subscribers who paid $39.95 a month.

s Confirm Body as Emily Sander

Dental records have confirmed that a body found near a Kansas highway is missing community college student and Internet porn star Emily Sander, authorities said. An autopsy has been completed, but the results have been sealed and are not available to the media.

Investigators also refused to give details about the state of the body or how it was found. Police did say that near Sander's body, found about 50 miles east of El Dorado, they also found a bedspread missing from a hotel room in El Dorado.

Police found evidence of a struggle and "a lot of blood" in that motel room, which was rented by Israel Mireles, 24, who was seen leaving the El Dorado Bar with Sander on Nov. 23. Mireles has not been seen since.

Authorities believe Mireles, along with his 16-year-old girlfriend Victoria Martens may be headed to Mexico. He has officially been named a suspect in the case. A $3,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for Sander's death.

The Phoenix Baseline Killer Case Background and Current Developments By Charles Montaldo, About.com

Mark Goudeau

Between August 2005 and September 2006, the Phoenix, Arizona, area was terrorized by a serial criminal who authorities believe was responsible for nine murders, 11 sexual assaults of women and young girls and several robberies. Because the first crimes connected to the same suspect occurred along the city's Baseline Road, the suspect was named the "Baseline Killer."

Phoenix Police Arrest 'Baseline Killer' Suspect
Phoenix police investigating the "Baseline Killer" serial killer and rapist case have arrested a 42-year-old man in connection with two sexual assaults connected to the case. Investigators say they have evidence linking Mark Goudeau to two sexual assaults which occurred on Sept. 20, 2005, but they are still following up evidence in the other cases.

The Baseline Killer (see police sketch) has terrorized the Phoenix area with 23 crimes since August 2005, including eight deaths, 11 sexual assaults of women and young girls and several robberies. The first connected crimes occurred along the city's Baseline Road, prompting the name "Baseline Killer."

Phoenix Police Chief Jack Harris said the evidence that linked Goudeau to the two sexual assaults is not the same evidence that linked 11 of the 23 crimes to the Baseline Killer.

"This suspect has been arrested for the sexual assault of two victims in one case only and is not connected to any of the other offenses in this series at this time," Harris said in a news conference.

"We still consider all those other cases open at this point. The investigation is continuing and we have a lot of work ahead of us," Police spokesman Andy Hill said.

Hill said police first got the man's name from a tip in July but did not identify him as a suspect in the sexual assault case until last weekend. Police kept him under surveillance until his arrest.

Meanwhile Gourdeau's wife and neighbors deny that he is the Baseline Killer. "My husband is innocent," Goudeau's wife Wendy Carr told the Associate Press. "This is a huge miscarriage of justice. And they have an innocent man in prison. This is all a mistake. He shouldn't be in prison for something he didn't do."

DNA Linked Baseline Killer to Victim
Monday August 6, 2007
Before an arrest was made in the Phoenix Baseline Killer case, investigators had a list of 75 possible suspects and they had DNA profiles of 29 of them. When DNA collected in a Sept. 20, 2005 sexual assault matched one of those profiles, it belonged to Mark Goudeau, a jury was told last week.

Forensic specialist Lorraine Heath said her analysis of DNA found on one of two sisters who had been sexually assaulted led to the arrest of Goudeau two weeks after she made the match.

Heath told the jury that the chances of the DNA found on the left breast of one of the victims belonging to someone other than Goudeau was one in 380 trillion.

Goudeau is on trial for sexual assault, kidnapping and other crimes related to the 2005 case. Goudeau, 42, faces 74 other criminal counts including nine murders. A trial for those crimes has not yet been scheduled.  [ send green star]

The man suspected of being the Phoenix Baseline Killer has been sentenced to 438 years in prison for his September conviction of sexually assualting two sisters near a city park.

Killer' Denied New Trial
Sunday November 11, 2007
The convicted rapist and suspected Phoenix Baseline Killer has been denied a bid for a new trial by a Superior Court judge. Mark Goudeau was found guilty in September of 19 charges related to the kidnapping and sexual assault of two sisters near a south Phoenix park in 2005.

In his appeal for a new trial, Goudeau's attorney Corwin Townsend argued that the three hours the jury spent in deliberations was not long enough to consider the evidence after a 19-day trial. In his ruling the judge wrote, "Why the jury was able to reach a decision so quickly, what they considered, and how they considered it is an impermissible legal exercise."

The defense also challenged how alternate jurors were chosen for the trial and challenged the fact that prosecutors told the jury that there was only a 1-in-360-trillion chance that DNA found on one of the two sisters' bodies did not belong to Goudeau.

Faces 74 More Charges

The judge rejected those arguments also, saying those objections should have been raised during the trial, but even if they had been, they would have been denied.

Gourdeau is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 14. He is also scheduled to go on trial next August on 74 other counts, including nine counts of murder, in the series of crimes linked to the Baseline Killer, a killing spree that lasted from August 2005 to June 2006.

'Baseline Killer' Gets 438 Years for Assaults
Sunday December 16, 2007
The man suspected of being the Phoenix Baseline Killer has been sentenced to 438 years in prison for his September conviction of sexually assaulting two sisters near a city park. Mark Goudeau, 43, received the long sentence after prosecutors proved in court that Goudeau had prior convictions for violent crimes.

Goudeau was found guilty in September after a two-month trial for raping one woman and sexually assaulting her sister as they walked home from a park. During the trial DNA evidence was presented which linked Goudeau to the victims.
