WARNING:beading product causes cancer-PLEASE READ! June 24, 2006 9:37 AM
I was recently shopping out of town at a craft store. One of my purchases was crimp beads manufactured by a company called Beadalon. When I got home and was about to open the package, I came across a warning that kind of freaked me out. It reads: "WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm." It told me to go to their web site for more info. A few of their products (it didn't say which ones) contain nickel and/or lead. It then refered me to another site for more info. I went there and it told me to find out the reasons for a manufacturer to post such a label, I had to ask the manufacturer, which is Beadalon. Basicly, it refered me back to the site that I had just been on, which didn't tell me anything helpful. I urge you to read the info on their web site: www.beadalon.com Sorry- I don't know how to insert a link- my computer won't do it for some reason. Anyway, please read, then write your thoughts on the matter. I know I don't want to create jewellery that causes cancer and birth defects- that's scarry!

Thank you so much for your concern and going out of your way to inform everyone. I was just shopping yesterday and saw some beadalon products, I'm glad I didn't purchase. Thank you for the information!
I'm glad people are still reading this. To update: I have since contacted Beadalon & the store where I purchased the product (Michael's) to let them know of my concern. That was a number of months ago, and I've yet to hear back from either company. I still shop at Michael's, but am careful whenever buying any jewellery product made of metal. Nickel can cause allergic reactions in some people, and lead has been found to cause cancer. Unfortunately, sometimes you need to find other suppliers and be willing to pay a little bit more $$ to ensure you are getting a safe product.
