Fur used in fashion is innately cruel. The unfortunate animals involved in fur fashion are either factory farmed or trapped and then killed, only to end up as a bit of trim or other so-called fashion item.
We need you to do your part and work with us at Born Free USA united with Animal Protection Institute to put an end to this senseless and brutal practice.
Retailers have many choices when it comes to what makes up their inventory. Unfortunately, not all retailers have acknowledged that they directly contribute to a cruel and unnecessary industry when they sell fur.
If they are ever to do the right thing and stock only fur-free items, retailers must be made aware that no fur garments are made compassionately.
The articles detail the use of black bear fur for the Queen's Guards and help expose the horrors of black bear hunting in Canada by directing their readers to our website, where they can view the footage of our undercover investigation footage that shows hungry mother bears as they are lured to bait sites, only to be shot, leaving their young and dependant cubs orphaned.
Despite such overwhelming evidence of the cruelty involved in every single hat of the Queen's Guards it takes one black bear to make just one hat the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has dragged its feet in working with PETA to find an alternative to real bear fur despite having been presented with numerous, luxurious faux-fur alternatives.
But this all may be about to change! In the coming weeks, we will be holding perhaps the most important meeting of the entire campaign with representatives of the MoD. We will be meeting with Baroness Ann Taylor, the Minister for Defence Procurement the minister who is directly responsible for acquiring all the Army's equipment. This is a significant step forward in our campaign, giving us the opportunity to speak face-to-face with the person responsible for buying the Queen's Guards' caps. This is a meeting that we hope will have a positive and lasting effect for all of Canada's black bears.
How can you help? Please write to or e-mail Secretary of Defence Des Browne MP today and let him know just how delighted you are that they have finally come to their senses and are willing to put an end to this unbearable cruelty:

More than two million dogs and cats give up their lives for fur products every year in Asia. Many animals are specially bred for the fur industry, others are simply caught on the streets. Furs from dogs that often land on the dinner plate in Asian countries could also make their way into the international trade. These dogs and cats generally vegetate in tiny wire cages. Brutal methods of killing are the order of the day, with some animals having their fur ripped off their still living bodies.
Hundreds of thousands of theses furs make their way into the European Union each year where they are sold to unsuspecting customers as fur trimmings on clothes, blankets, decoration articles or toys. Please help us close the European market to these products and stop this cruelty to animals!
There is a proposal for an import and trade prohibition being discussed at the moment in the EU. However, this prohibition is just limited to dog and cat furs that expressly originate from fur farms. The import of furs from other sources will continue to be allowed. For this reason Vier Pfoten is starting an international campaign today for a loophole-free import prohibition! With your help, we would like to convince the European Parliament and the EU Member States to close the existing "loophole for animal cruelty" and to furthermore campaign for a statutory labelling obligation for all fur products. Our aim: No dog or cat fur to be allowed to make its way into the EU anymore! Time is running out as the final decision of the Council of Ministers is expected to be made on May 7.
Take part! Get involved with our campaign for a loophole-free import prohibition. With just a click of the mouse you can appeal by email to the responsible Ministers for Agriculture from Bulgaria, Germany, Austria, The Netherlands, Romania and Hungary to support our demands.

Downtown - Schumacher Furs & Outerwear is told by its landlord to vacate by 1 p.m. the day after Christmas
Saturday, December 23, 2006 SPENCER HEINZ
Schumacher Furs & Outerwear, the target of more than a year of anti-fur protests, is facing a landlord's notice to swiftly vacate its downtown Portland location.
The store's owner had announced last month that he voluntarily would leave the 811 S.W. Morrison St. location for an undisclosed space in the suburbs by the spring. Gregg Schumacher, owner of Schumacher Furs & Outerwear, said late Friday afternoon that he had just opened a certified letter from his landlord's attorney saying the fur store must leave by 1 p.m. Tuesday, the day after Christmas.
"We're supposed to vacate and quit possession of the premises," he said, reading from the letter.
A hearing on the eviction case is set for 9 a.m. Thursday in the Multnomah County Courthouse, according to the county eviction office.
The store is in the middle of a 30 percent to 40 percent off "evacuation sale," Schumacher said, adding that he had no intention of leaving by Tuesday. Instead, he would be busy selling furs.
"I plan to keep running my evacuation sale," he said. "I have done nothing violating anything in the leasing agreements."
Earlier this year, Schumacher said that his landlord, developer Tom Moyer's TMT Development Co., had threatened to evict the business if the store did not remove signs aimed at protesters. On Friday, Schumacher said lawyer-to-lawyer discussions last week had seemed to resolve most, if not all, signage issues.
"We went through a process of approval with TMT last week to approve the signage, which is in our display windows right now, and we have it approved," he said.
A TMT representative could not be reached for comment Friday. TMT has declined previous requests to discuss whether it was evicting Schumacher's.
On Wednesday, a lawyer for Tom Moyer Theatres partnership filed a "complaint for forcible entry and detainer" -- an eviction notice -- in Multnomah County Circuit Court against Gregg Schumacher Furs LLC at the Morrison Street location of Schumacher Furs & Outerwear.
The action marks the latest in a series that started in November 2005 when protesters began picketing the 111-year-old Portland institution every Saturday, claiming fur businesses cause unnecessary cruelty to animals.
Early in April, Schumacher went before the Portland City Council and complained that police let protesters get out of hand. Soon after, he filed a notice of intent to sue the city, contending that police were not properly responding to complaints during weekly protests.
This November, Schumacher said that he felt the city's core was unsafe and unfriendly, and that he would move his shop to the suburbs in the spring. At the time, he said he was under no landlord pressure to move.
I think this is a very exciting issue and we will fight to rid the internet of fur adverts and stop large corporations like Google from profiting from this.
Please send a letter to Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts and tell her that you are outraged that Burberry still uses the skins of tortured animals in its clothing. Urge her to discontinue the company's use of fur and let her know that you won't buy from Burberry until it stops selling real fur. You can copy and paste the following letter into an e-mail and send it to:
Angela Ahrendts, CEO Burberry Group PLC 18-22 Haymarket London SW1 4DQ United Kingdom angela.ahrendts@burberry.com
Personalized letters always work best. Feel free to use the following text, but your e-mail will carry more weight if you write your own customized message and subject line.
Stop Torturing Animals!
I was shocked to learn that Burberry continues to use real fur in its designs. There is nothing fashionable or elegant about how animals are killed in the fur industry. Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy wire cages. Fur farmers use the cheapest and cruelest killing methods available, including suffocation, electrocution, gassing, and poisoning.
I am disappointed that Burberry is promoting such outdated cruelty to animals when luxurious cruelty-free materials are readily available. Whether it comes from minks, foxes, raccoons, chinchillas, beavers, rabbits, or lynx, fur looks best on its original owners. I refuse to buy anything from Burberry until it removes fur from its collections.
Thank you for standing up for animals by sending a letter to Burberry asking the company to stop using real fur in its designs. Click here for even more ways you can help.

Animals killed for their fur suffer terribly and are killed through horribly barbaric means such as anal or genital electrocution, clubbing, drowning, or neck-breaking. The Humane Society of the United States' Fur-Free Campaign works with designers, retailers, and consumers to stop the use of animal fur.
