I help volunteer with The Illinois Bird dog Rescue and while it is not a shelter..they provide safe haven for all the forgetten, abused, abadondon,sick, elderly bird dogs...they pull them out of shelters and provide medical care regardless of age or their medical problems and once nursed back to health in foster homes are placed in the proper forever homes...I and my husband have been blessed with two such angels Charle and Larry. Larry had only 2 days left on this earth before a shelter was making the determination that he was...I am not sure another mouth to feed...medical problems they did not want to deal with and he was only 6 weeks old...My husband and I contacted IBDR and adopted Larry immediately and a caravan was arranged where Larry was brought to us in Illinois from Ohio....volunteers took turns 50 miles 100 miles whatever it took to get Larry to safety...I can not imagine life without Larry...he is a miraculous dog..and had graced our life along with his brother....I ask that you take a moment and just read our web site it is vote for your favorite shelter week...I just think that people should know about these breeds and the wonderful souls like at so many other shelters thoughout the country that so generously volunteer their time and money and homes....but we are just a few...and these breeds are just thrown away and if you go the site you will read some incredible stories of dogs given a second chance http://www.illinoisbirddogrescie.org/ Thanks and I hope you see what I see the same beauty in these dogs...and like all rescue dogs the tenacity and will to live and give back love with such abandonment...I have often believed that it we that are the ones being rescued...Dawn
