One aspect of the Jane Harman/AIPAC/Gonzo/wiretap scandal that could be cleared up very quickly by a player still slightly outside the frame: was Nancy Pelosi lobbied by AIPAC on behalf of Jane Harman, in order to promote Harman's ascension to chair of the House Intelligence Committee?
In exchange for Harman's help, the sources said, the suspected Israeli agent pledged to help lobby Nancy Pelosi , D-Calif., then-House minority leader, to appoint Harman chair of the Intelligence Committee after the 2006 elections, which the Democrats were heavily favored to win.
Wouldn't it be helpful if Nancy Pelosi described contacts to her office by AIPAC employees, specifically with regard to Jane Harman's possible chairmanship? Whether those contacts played any role in the Speaker's eventual decision not to tap Harman -- well, that might be helpful, too.
The Speaker's number in Washington is (202) 225-4965.
