Parents, lock your car doors! October 02, 2006 8:36 AM

I thought I'd pass along a question which Mikee and others answered for me, since it might help others. Question for the emergency workers here September 16, 2006 5:46 AM My husband and I have had a debate since we met each other. I won't tell you who believes what. But I hoped maybe some of you could settle it for us. Is it safer to drive with your car doors locked or unlocked? Thanks! [ send green star] [ accepted] Michael F. Michelle B. September 16, 2006 5:54 AM LMAO, thats an easy question, it is safer to drive with your car doors locked, no one can gain acess to you, or through your car when the car is locked, open door locks: your stopped at a light and a perp can easily open the door throw you out, and boom, your car is gone. If now your in an accident God Forbid, your doors are locked, thats fine too, because all Emergency Workers carry a glass cutting/ breaking tool, in which access can be gained to enter your car. So Michelle, locked car doors are always safer, just like a locked house door verce an opened one, so tell hubby he was wrong LMAO Mikee Ex-NYC Police Officer NYPD Finest in the WORLD......... 09-11-01 Never Forget, ALL GAVE SOME and SOME GAVE ALL R.I.P. [ send green star] John L. Michelle B September 22, 2006 11:44 AM I completely agree with Michael. From a Fire Department stand-point a locked door will not hinder us in entering your vehicle when the need arises and having the door locked does actually prevent many accidental openings that can result in major injury. Please lock your doors as soon as you have entered your vehicle. Do not wait until you start your engine or any other task you may wish to complete before driving. This behavior is also key in self defense training for the very reasons Michael has outlined. Be Safe, Be Happy John L. San Bernardino County Fire [ send green star] [ accepted] Tina E.
