Well we did a little discussing on the PBS building system we will be building. it is a shotcrete house. We are still up in the air about the overall design. They offer domes which we like that can be connected via a tunnel they also offer. So my thoughts were a boob house. Two domes, two story, and a connecting two story tunnel. This way dad can have one dome, we can have the other. the top floor of dads side would be all bachelor pad, fitted with master bedroom, master bathroom, walkin closet, billiards room, private laundry, and library/den. His bottom floor holding two spare rooms, master kitchen for the entire units, and a work room/mans fun room. My side would have 3 bedrooms upstairs, one being a master w master bath, all walkin closets, shared bath for the kids. Downstairs living room, craft room, laundry, play room/den, bathroom, spare bedroom. This design would be perfect for us because we could conserve on money by always eating together, would use two wood stoves for heating, the kids would have access to their grandpa full time yet when mom and the step dad visits they wouldnt have to be in the same room as dad.
Our biggest expenses would then be the system itself, two 40 x 52 domes, top floor sq ft 1484, bottom floor sq ft 1786, total sq ft each dome 3270, cost per dome $29,000, $58,000 for the two. The tunnel to connect would be $8,400 for a total of $66,400. This is for the structure alone not including the shotcrete to cover it, waterproofing, and all interior. No need for exterior painting as we will be underground, no AC as the interior temp will float at 55 degrees to 65 degrees.
we have been looking into land still but havent found the ideal acerage as of yet. Who knew it would be so slow of a process. At least we can say we had time to think and rethink everything out!

Wow, that sounds really cool! The boob house idea would probably work for me, too. Then I could have my parents close, but separate. They have some health problems, and I worry. I live with them now, actually.
