Hello Folks!
I'm a mean-green-vegan-machine. jk....I'm not really mean, but I practice a vegan lifestyle. I have found being vegan is quite a challange as it affects every aspect of my life. For instance...what kind of fertalizer was used in the soy beans grown for the tofu I buy? After researching this I've found that even organic farms use animal by-products for fertalizers. To me, this is scarey and dishonest.
Well, enough for now. I will enjoy this group.
Ahimsa!

Hi Neil, and the rest ![]()
I would like to comment on your post about Al Gore. I think it is a good thing that he made this Wake-Up-Call movie, but I also think that there is a danger in it's approach.
As it is in the nature of humans, we all react on things we see, hear, feel, expierence etc. This reaction can be different for every-one. After seeing the movie from Al Gore there is a reaction.... One could start to live a better life and take action. One could think that it is too late anyway, and get into an egoistic living material mindset. One could be indifferent, and think neitherway, and just live their life like they did.
Have you seen the movie "The Secret" ?? According to the secret WE create our environment, energy attracts like-energy. Energy flows where thoughts go. When you think "I don't want this to happen" -murpheys law- It will happen! Fear is the worst and also one of the most powerfull energies in the universe. Combine this knowledge with the movie of Al Gore... -spreading the fear- What is it that WE create???
But luckily it works as well with "I want this to happen" and it will happen. The key to this is LOVE and GRADITUDE. This energy is the best and absolute most powerfull energy in the whole universe. And with positive love-gratitude-thinking we can create the best life ever imagined for All of us. Starting with turning around the message that is brought in negative thoughts and speaking, into positive thinking and action. I truly believe if we combine our thoughts into what WE really want, we can create it!
So please be care-full on how you show this movie of Al Gore to other people.
Best, namasté to all

Thanks Soren for inviting me to this exciting group!
The windy city, Chicago, could go even greener than it is by fastening solar panels and wind propellers to all of their skyscrapers and other commercial buildings, not to mention on street light poles, signal light poles, and telephone poles, etc. Also San Francisco. The propellers would have to be surrounded by some sort of light netting to protect birds from flying into them, and also people should the propellers break off.

Thanks, Soren, for the invitation.
Global warming: It's a controversial topic, but it shouldn't be. I don't like it when other people push their own agendas, but here goes anyway: I own a copy of Al Gore's movie "An Inconvenient Truth". I've been lending it to anyone I can convince to watch it. I don't care what your personal opinion of Al Gore is. Everyone should see this movie. OK, now I'll get down off my soap box!

Thank you, Soren, for the invitation. This is my first group on Care2, so I'll just be very quiet and look around to get my bearings. I don'y post much, but I like reading about what actions other members are taking.
I am a retired teacher living in Labrador; I plant trees in my yard and rescue stray dogs and try not to be wasteful of anything - food, clothing, fuel, and so on. I like thrift shops, bookstores and flea markets. I read a lot.

Hello all. Blair here. Thanks Soren for the invite!!! =)
There's 2 main issues I'll point to - first the petition, which kind of outlines the purpose and is a good start for getting involved in the issue - thanks to all who have signed and read it, even more thanks if you try to pass on the word about it..
The 2. issue is to get an actual project up and running - I have some contacts going and will post information as soon as I have more details...

Hey Soren!!
Thanks for inviting me. I am getting ready to participate in the March 11 rally 'Canadians for Kyoto'. I am also part of a community initiative in Toronto where we are looking at community projects for making a greener city. Some of the possibilities are more green top roofs, creating butterfly gardens in every little spare corner of the city, awareness raising in schools, family projects/challenges.
I am thrilled to be here and to recognize a few familiar faces. ![]()
I look forward to sharing & caring with you all!

Thank you soren for inviting me on to this group,I have many ideas (as one which soon I am going to implament).
With enogh will this group as a team will make a huge change to this wourd,I actually don't belive in ways of protest but on actions each of us do by showing people thees actions in a commercial form without expecting profit.

The local gas/oil fired electric plant has been sold twice to companies that plan to upgrade. Each company makes promises, but the fine print is a new attack on the environment. Plans that are better for the air but worse for the bay water are unacceptable. We are watching carefully for the new company to show us their plan. Companies are covering their failures by trading properties. Vigilance is vital to save our environment.
Thanks to Soren for inviting me to this group. His invitation couldn't have arrived at a better moment, just shortly after Tony Blair announced that more nuclear power was needed in the UK
I am originally from Italy, but lived in Germany for 14 years before making the UK my home for the last 6 years. So far, I've seen so many differences in countries dealing with natural resources and recycling. I look forward to learning more from the discussions here.
Thank you Soren for the invitation.
I am sure I will meet many wonderful people here.

Have Always wanted to know more about Sustainable living. I own a 113 acre farm in the Thousand Islands. I have been looking into having wind turbines put on the land. With the amount of steady air flow we have here it could power my town plus the neighboring Gananoque with it's casino.
Soren, thank you for inviting me to join this group. I live in the beautiful Earthly paradise of NJ. My town, Linden, is filled with blue collar folk and factories. Yet NJ is aptly named The Garden State. It is very diverse.
Within 1/2 an hour from my home is The Great Swamp Wildlife Refuge, created by the Wisconsin Ice Glacier as it carved its way down here in the last Ice Age. The Refuge is strewn with huge glacial boulders, carniverous plants, primeval ferns, and countless wildflowers.
Although it is a very populated and in many places, a defiled state, NJ remains a sacred place on this Earth. I feel profound loyalty and love for this particular place, where I am priveleged to watch the sun rise and set.
The first thing my beautiful state needs is to improve its mass transporation system, increase the number of bicycles, and reduce the number of cars, especially in the center of towns. This is where I would begin efforts toward sustainability.
But how to explain the joys and benefits of this carless idea to people who have never imagined an alternative way to get around? I would like to put a call out to all artists - please create images of carless cities. The media does not provide anchors for this vision. Therefore, artists must rise to the occasion and inspire average peope to reimagine their lives.
I hope to hear from any artists out there.
Thanks for connecting us all, Soren.
Anna

Got some updates on the website GreeningWays
Hi soren, Just popping in to say hi. I will try and pop in as often as i can. So Soren thankyou for the invite to this group.

Just a quick hello to all... looks like an interesting group! I'm always interested in promoting and learning about ways to green up life. I merely strive to do what I can, mostly recycling at this point and this weekend we're switching our oil consuming furnace for a wood pellet furnace... very excited, if not a little worried (fueled of course by oil-friendly folks - the tech at the stove place was sure it would work in our little house though)... supposed to be cleaner burning and keep wood waste out of landfills AND drive down our reliance on oil.. yippee! Also use natural cleaners for home and embrace my dandelions instead of poisoning the earth... Still have miles to go though...
Hi everyone, I am Beth. I don't know much about sustainable energy, however I am learning quickly. I wa.s so impressed by Tryon Farms in Portland, OR when I visited it and everything they are doing to teach other people about sustainable living. I try to make changes to my own lifestyle as I learn about the things I am doing that are harmful (or even just could be better). I live in a town where there is almost always wind after 12:00pm. Why don't we utilize the windmills for some of our power that I have seen in the desert? I don't know. This is one of the things I plan to look into, learn about and possibly bring to the City Council. At any rate, I am hoping to learn from each of you as well as contribute as much as I can. Thanks again!
B.
I am more than happy to communicate with, share related information, and cooperate in any way I can with others who can enough to go forth and try to make a difference. Again, thanks for inviting me into the group - I am looking forward to seeing what projects develop.
Botanically Yours,
Ted
I love the clarity you are expressing, Soren, in your Actions Consequences post below.
I have some health issues that take a lot of my energy, but for the long term, I am interested in finding my role and playing it to the hilt in the new community oriented world.
May there be much good work done here,
Susan
