Modiba Productions

Modiba's long term plans include setting up economically and environmentally sustainable studios in Bamako, Mali and elsewhere on the continent, to produce local music and film. Proceeds from these ventures will help finance local development initiatives in a partnership with governmental and non-governmental organizations. At the same time, the studios will offer much-needed employment opportunities for young professionals in the region.

Chevy Fuel Cell Car Goes 300 Miles Without Refueling -- on Hydrogen
Written by geri
Wednesday, 16 May 2007

General Motors made history yesterday as its Chevy Sequel became the first electric fuel cell vehicle to achieve 300 miles on one tank of hydrogen, in and out of traffic on public roads, while producing zero emissions.

"With this drive, General Motors has reached an important milestone, said Larry Burns, GM vice president, research & development and strategic planning. "And we did it while producing zero emissions, as a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle only emits water."

As always when hydrogen comes up, I have to point out that it is true it's zero emission from the vehicle, BUT it takes energy to produce hydrogen, and if that energy is produced in a biggo coal fired powerplant somewhere the emissions have only been moved from the vehicle to the powerplant instead... Hydrogen is great, if it's produced using renewable energy sources.

The future looks "bright"

When I was a kid, I thought that by the year 2000 most of the troubles in the world would be a thing of the past.. that the world would come closer together, and science and technology would resolve and cure everything. I even thought that the structures of our cars would be made out of photovoltaic cells. But I guess I was wrong.. it's just gonna take a bit longer.

btw.. Soren, I think it's great what you're doin' with solar power. To me, solar is the way to go!

Best regards

René Geneva, of Faernyn’s Grove, is working to get a 19KW solar system installed for the CDCA, the Fair Trade Zone (where some of her organic designer clothes are made), and the Spinning Plant. She’s not only seeking donations, but also allocating profits from some of her garment sales. http://mycorset.com/solarproject.htm

Trees for the Holidays

Give the Gift of Trees. Planting trees thru American Forests is a great way to give a gift of trees to a loved one that will never be forgotten. When you sponsor the planting of trees ($1 each, 15-tree minimum) we will send you (or your gift recipient)

Healthy forests filter water, remove air pollution, sequester carbon, and provide homes for wildlife. Help plant trees to restore areas damaged by wildfire, where critical wildlife habitat has been lost, and to clean our air and water.

Hello Group Members,

While the population of Mother Earth sympathizes with the illfated natural disasters, each individual must continue to strive for our global environments to sustain us in the future generations that succeed us.

.

David Suzuki, world renowned scientist, environmentalist, broadcaster keeps reminding us how fragile our beatiful earth is and how as individuals, we can make a difference. Replacing our incandescent light bulbs for carbon fluorescent lamps (CFL) can save 75% of the energy we use with CFL bulbs and save money on our Hydro Bills.

That's just one idea promoted by David Suzuki and in the media.
