Hi boys and girls,

My name is Erez Luke Cohen. I'm a student for political science and international relations in Tel-Aviv University, Israel.

I invite everyone here to say a few words about themselves so we could get to know each other better.

Hi

My name is Keren and I live in the UK.

Firstly can I say what a wonderful idea your group is. I have always loved trees, my mum says I have been talking to them since before she could understand what I was saying to them.

I love the way they look, feel and sound, aswell as the way they make me feel inside.

I am at my most peaceful and serene under a canopy of leafy branches. It doesn't matter what kind of woodland or forest I'm in, as long as I am surrounded by trees I am happy.

Luckily my other half and my children feel just the same way, so we sit and commune together, it is the greatest way to spend a weekend!

This is a photo of my other half Jay and my youngest daughter Aeven under a really friendly tree.

This is my other half Jay and our youngest daughter Aeven under a friendly tree. It was a really nice walk that day with an ancient monument at the end of it too. We had a lovely day.

I am lucky enough to have a large garden that had quite a few mature trees in it already when we moved in and we have planted native saplings and seedlings over the years, so we have a small forest springing up around our cottage.

Finally thankyou very much for the link to the Freecycle network. I have joined my local branch. What an excellent idea that is.

Take care and thanks for having me in your group.  I am looking forward to making lots of new friends.

Blessings and Peace.

Hello take 2 June 26, 2006 5:23 AM

Hi.

Sorry about the thread above, I posted it here by mistake. Thanks to an over-active 2 year old I got my posts mixed up and you ended up with the wrong one.

I can't find any way of editing the post I already put up so I'll have to try again. Yours should have read:-

Hi.

My name is Keren and I live in the UK.

Our recycling facilities are not bad but they could be better.

I love the idea of your group and will do what I can to help everyone to the target of 1001 everyday lifetips for a better world.

I have enjoyed very much reading the tips already posted and will post up any I think of or find out about.

Lastly and the only thing that belonged in my original thread. Thankyou very much for the link to Freecycle.org.  It is a fantastic place and I signed up to my local group straight away.

I am looking forward to making tons of new friends. Thanks for having me in your group.

Blessings and Peace.

Elvin Dreams.

Hi, I just joined. I'm looking for a group where we can get into nitty-gritty, how-to stuff about taking steps to stop feeding the tapeworm economy, to live more sustainably and to act locally. I live in Indiana with my husband. We have a small garden every year, and we're thinking of having a fireplace insert installed before this winter, to heat our home with wood rather than natural gas. We recycle. I'm planning to switch my savings account to a local bank. I'm looking for other ideas I can apply in my own life and community, and I hope to share some helpful information with the group, too. My big obstacle right now is probably the fact that I have an easy time finding community online, but not locally in the offline world. I rarely talk to my neighbors, and I have little taste for attending political party meetings.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

My name is Else, I am Dutch and live in Ireland for 8 years. just graduated as visual artist and like to use art and creativity for the good cause of our environment. I think we should ask ourselves before buying the next item, can I make this myself, could I get it secondhand and most of all do I really need it. love and peace to all.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Earth SmArts July 20, 2006 5:42 PM

Hi everyone,

I've just joined the group. I have a group called Earth SmArts. I use common household trash to create museum worthy works of art. I've had two shows at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston MA and I'm starting to get a little bit of media attention.  http://www.thetranscript.com/fastsearch/ci_4056033 I joined because I have a question. What's wrong with people? A few people actually thought my newspaper review was an AD, I had to explain that it was an interview and the exhibit I'm putting together isn't a sale. I've just published my website www.ecoart.us if anyone wants to read all the details. I actually have a woman calling me to give me her trash. When I explained that my project was an effort to teach people how to manage their trash more efficiently and more creatively she got upset with me. I told her if she really wanted to help she could clean her tin cans and disinfect her styrofoam meat trays and use them in a craft project with her kids on the next rainy day. She hung up on me in an angry huff. I'm starting to think I'm fighting a losing battle. Since I am now disabled it hurts to do this and this exhibit may be my last one. I was hopeing to find someone who cared enough about this to try and do it themselves. I guess I was wrong.

Royce!

Some of us are worth the effort! July 26, 2006 3:30 PM

Honest Royce,

Don't give up on all of us. I know that living in the UK I probably don't get the same kind of trash as you get LOL, but I will certainly be looking at my rubbish in a new light after having seen your site.

I am sorry to hear that your upcoming exhibition might be your last that is a shame. But if you touch one person, connect with one soul and one human being leaves that exhibition with a new view of their trash everything will have been worth it. You will have made a difference.

Keep well and be happy.

Blessings and Peace.

Elvin.

hello all,
i am new too...and love this care2, wish i knew about it when it started...
to Earth Smarts, have you heard about Freecycle?  it's a local network thru yahoo and you might be interested in joining.  maybe all of you would for that matter...people offering free stuff rather than throwing it away
I live in so.california with my husband, 2 boys, 1 dog, 1 bunny and 2 rescue pot-bellies.  i love my planet and have always tried to rescue it as much as i can.  conservation, recycling, less driving, slowing down.  we have our own business in furniture imports and supporting fair trade, artisans and craftsman.  we hope to hold events in our location as well to...exhibits, awakening, yoga...

hi! everyone

i'm ruchi. i love nature. i feel so bad after seeing the conditions of out concrete cities. why do we always go on the hills for the vacation its because nature is still intact with all its beauty which calms us down. why cant we beautify our cities by planting trees. i have seen so many people cutting trees to make space for their cars. i'm slowly trying to be more eco-friendly. one thing i always ask people is to never go for long drives. its waste of money, fuel and adds upto global warming. if one wishes to enjoy one can enjoy more sitting at a beach or a garden.

Hi everyone.

Like the rest of you here, I am trying to leave the world a better place than it is now. It's an uphill slog, and sometimes I feel as if it's a losing battle, but we all do what we can, don't we?  Nice to meet everyone.

I just joined.... August 05, 2006 7:28 PM

My name is Brandi.  I've been a member of care2 since 2000, but just discovered care2 connect and am so excited.  I am looking to learn all that I can, and this group seems like a great place for it.  I hope to gather information that will open my eyes to the irresponsible, wasteful things I do every day and try to change them.  I have a 3-year-old son and would like to raise him with good habits, and to be mindful of these things.  Thanks!

(My choice of smiley implies "cleaning up my act", just in case that only made sense to me  Sometimes that happens...)

Hey Royce October 01, 2006 4:53 PM

I met some people here in Oz in Wollondilly Shire to be exact who were petitioning council and government to get some money to set up a place where young people and those of all ages could come and learn how to make art from recycled goods.  not sure how they got on but they wre pretty passionate aobut it so I'm thinking they will get what they want sooner or later! Never give up on something that you are passionate asbout.  Without passion what do we have?  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I am new to Care2 and to Care2 Connect. I just joined this group over the weekend. I live in Cleveland Ohio. I try to make an impact throught my writing. I just published my first book "Healing Us". It's a poetry book filled with as many issues that I could think of and cram in. If anyone has any advice to help me sell I'd love to hear it. I used to sponsor several children but couldn't find a way to keep paying for it so now I'm down to one. I have a few favorite charities that I try to help when I can. I don't know what else to say. I'm looking forward to hearing ways I can help. I'm more limited than many because of my health but I like to do what I can.

Best Regards,
Selena

Hello All -
I am excited I found this group.  I'm really evaluating the things I do in my everyday life to see where I can improve and live more sustainably.  I live in Boise with my husband and daughter.  We moved here a year ago from So Cal to live a little more simply.  I love the outdoors, being in nature and hiking with my little girl.  We recycle, use as few chemicals as possible, buy organic and support local growers when possible.  I have almost finished switching out my lightbulbs to florescents and I try and think about the greenest choice when I buy something.  I figure little actions can change the world too, even if its just a little bit.

Saying Hi October 27, 2006 3:21 PM

Hello all: I just joined the group and hope to share and learn and nurture peace, understanding, and sustainability. I live in central New Jersey: was born and reared here, lived in Arizona for 15 years, and have recently returned to NJ. I try to tread lightly on the planet (I'm a vegan) and am getting involved in reuse/recycle projects. I also write for an environmental protection web page, so I hope I'm contributing in some small way there as well (http://www.charityguide.org/volunteer/environmental-protection.htm)

We CAN make a difference!

Hey Y'all! October 30, 2006 1:19 PM

Hondo here...followed Deborah M.  BTW, Deborah is one smart cookie
I live west of San Antonio, Texas, where cattle and corn can be seen.  Most of the people out here really care about our environment...we're currently trying to fight off a rock quarry.  We care about the treatment of animals.  Although, it's is hard for me to talk to people about recycling.  Little steps I suppose.  So I'm here to learn from you all and to pass it on.

I'm from Ohio, have two kids and plenty of furry and non furry friends. I work full time for a tyrant, one of those people who will crush anything to get what he wants. (that's beside the point) Anyway I am looking for organizations and different groups in my area to join and become a part of the solution. So I thought I would start here and see what difference I can make in my everyday choices. Thank you for the information...I hope to look through the site more after work. *Brightest Blessings* Fur Elisee P.S. I dont type too much on my posts because for some reason if I make my post too long I am booted out of the site I am in and then I must retype everything....So far I am able to type more then 3 lines here...Amazing! Have a great day!

I'm an active volunteer as well as an active Care2 member. I'm a substitute teacher now, and I'm applying to be a police dispatcher for a few years while I get my certification to teach. I click to donate and I love http://www.Goodsearch.com. My other two favorites are http://www.heifer.org (Teach a man to fish) and http://www.children.org (my husband and I sponsor 4 children, one from Ecuador, one from Chile, one from Guatemala and one from Zambia). I have two cats: Noelle (a 6 year-old plain Jane tabby who spent two years at a shelter after being abused before I took her home) and Puck (a 1.5 year old Norwegian Forest kitten, from an oops litter, given to my husband from one of his students). My husband and I are fencing instructors in Virginia, and he teaches science at a high school. He also sponsors an anime club for the kids, and I coach a public speaking competition team  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I'm In! December 02, 2006 8:33 PM

Hello,

I started doing some reading a few months ago to get some information about what I could be doing to lessen my impact on the earth.  I come from a small town in Kansas that seems to be a few steps behind and I've been feeling that it's my responsiblity to do what I can to maintain our environment.  I was so pleasantly surprised by all the information that's out there on the web.  So I've just become a member of Care2 and found this group!  We've just recently moved to a new house so as we remodel I've been doing what I can to make it as efficient and eco friendly as I can.  What started as a few baby steps has snowballed in our house and I'm driven to do so much more. I am so inspired and motivated right now and look forward to being a part of this.  Thanks!  Amy

Hi! December 10, 2006 3:18 PM

Hey there! I'm Lindsey. I found this group as I stumbled here from Care2. I am currently looking to buy products from completely eco friendly companies. (It wouldn't hurt if they were also cruelty-free as well). If anyone wants to point me in the direction of where I could find out some companies that would be great! Also, just say hi whenever. Welcome and Tree Planting May 29, 2008 3:40 AM

Hello to everyone, I'm Lynnzie and I live in Scotland.  I was very interested to note the idea of planting a tree every year and plan to do that; not only from now on but also retrospectively.

I will be 60 years old in July 2008 and after careful reflection I know I have planted only five trees in my lifetime so far and need to go some to catch up.  On my property here in Scotland I have about 80 or 90 trees already – time and room to plant more.  So the plan is to plant 11 trees each year from now until I’m 65.

I think my birthday trees this year will include:

Apple Trees - Cox’s Orange Pippin and Bramley, for eating and cooking.

Plum Trees - Damson and Greengage, for wine making and preserves.

Tall and Broad Trees - Silver Birch and Rowan, for bark and red berries

Here is the silver birch and the Rowan

image of a Silver Birch (weeping). RBattell/1image of a young Rowan with berries.

It is my intention to plant these trees but my mother always said the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

So maybe I should set myself another task – check in her every July and post a note to say how many trees I have planted in the preceding 12 months!!  Then you can all keep me to task!!

Glad to belong.

Lynnzie
