Hi everyone, I just wanted to take the time to introduce myself.
My name is Karen and I recently took over as group host. I'm hoping to bring some new life into the group and create more activity on our site.
I owned a hedgehog named Louie for several years in the past. Louie spent many years with me and moved with me to 3 different homes before he passed away from old age. He was as wonderful a character as I have found them all to be.
I am looking to adopt a new one. But waiting until my life gets a little more settled.
I volunteer with a rescue group called The Hedgehog Welfare Society. Occasionaly foster for them.
I'm not an expert on the subject by any means but please feel free to post any questions or problems you maybe having. If I can't answer your questions I can find an answer for you or maybe one of our other great members will be able to help you out.
Please feel free to introduce yourself and tell us any cute stories about your hedgehog or any experiences you have had with them. We would love to hear from you.

I was hoping there was a group for Hedgehog lovers! May girlfriend and I have 2 hedgehogs, an African-Pygmy Hedgehog, and an Albino Hedgehog. Their names are Chilly and Tilly. We got Tilly first and she is friendly, moody, A little lazy, and loves to be handled.Chilly is a bit shy, he has a beautiful color and the cutest little hog nose. He's jumpy and active, and is warming up to being out and handled.(We think the pet store we rescued 'em from wasn't a good environmnent) They are truly nocturnal, so are we so they fit into our lifestyle very well!

Hello, I'm Rachel & I just brought my 1st hedgehog home yesterday. She hasn't a name yet - it has to be perfect . Her personality seems to include a great deal of inquisitiveness and spunk

Hi! Our family bought our first hedgehog three years ago when we saw a friend's new hedgehog and fell in love with the cute little face and ears. After we had our own hedgehog for about 6 months, my friend's son decided he didn't want a hedgehog any more, so we became a two-hedgehog family. This fall, my twin sons started college and I took one hedgehog to school to be the class pet (I teach a class of 3 & 4 year-old special education students). After a few weeks, one of my part-time assistants metioned that her sons would love to have a hedgehog, so she took that one home with her and I brought the other hedgehog to school. So, now there are no hedgehogs at home, and my students either love the class pet or are scared of her. My plan is to keep her at school until the end of the school year and then I may have to find her a home, too since I am retiring at the end of this year and would like to do some traveling (to at least visit my children at school every now and then). I will be very sad when we go back to being a no-hedgehog home.

Hello! My name is Krystal, I just purchased a new hedgehog after owning a snowflake for five years. She was given to me by a friend that was moving to Japan, and she lived to be about 9 years old. It was devastating when I lost her, but the new one I got from a baby and keeps me well "pinned".
His name is Ira, and he's about 3 months old. Where him and the ferret don't get along at all, the cat loves him to pieces but does not try to harm him. I still wouldn't trust her alone, but from what I see, they're good.
I don't have pics yet, but hopefully will soon (I just need to do a good sit down and update my profile).
Good to see so many people who love the spined furries!
I have become a hedgehog fanatic. Can't help it, it's over the cull on the Isles. These creatures do not deserve this fate and thanks to everyone who has signed the petition against it. Please send it on to others. As far as I know there's only six hedgehogs saved so far this year. Next year this must not happen.
For everything you need to know about hedgehogs there's a lovely site - http://www.thehedgehog.co.uk which has featured the petition and given other advice to try to stop this cruel cull. Like a boycott of all things Scottish and e-mailing the relevant people. Then there's the British Hedgehog Preservation Society of which I'm a member http://www.britishhedgehogs.org.uk and there's more on http://www.advocatesforanimals.org Wonderful people. Sorry my introduction is so long.
It's funny that I found this on google. I was googling trying to find orgs that would spread the word about the hedgehog petition. Lots of love to everyone.
Caitlin nice to meet you. Thanks you for introducing yourself, it's nice to have you here.
Everyone else, please feel free to introduce yourself. Even if you have been here for awhile we would love to hear from you. Let us know what caused your interest in hedgehogs. Karen
Adore hedgehogs and did not know there are breeders. I have a dog and added a calico last week-they stay in separate parts of my living area and eye each other warily. I would love to rescue hedgehogs people have to part with. Great to know other people love them too.

Hello everyone! I have recently inherited a hedgehog from a friend who didn't want him anymore Anyways I thought it would be neat to have the cute little creature and I am learning as I go, but any extra tips on helping to take care of my new pet would be nice.
Hi everybody. I'm so relieved that there is a hedgehog loving group of people on here. My name is Brookelynne, or Neko for short, me and my boyfriend have 3 wonderful hedgies, Sonic, Dorothy and Gwenevieve. Sonic was my birthday present to myself 2 years ago and he was the most wonderful thing that had entered my life, every little thing he did was magic. So I got Dorothy for my boyfriend that december, she was teeeny weeeny when we got her, the owners didn't think she would live, but my boyfriend instantly fell in love with her and insisted that she was the one, and she prospered, we joke around that she is the super-model pog, because she is blonde, blue eyed, long legged and atheletic. Gwenevieve came to us a year later, she is the huffiest hedgie of all, but she is really a loving girl if you can get her to warm up to you. And that is our family! We all live together happily, I'm excited about sharing our stories and photos.
I am not new to this group either. So it's about time I introduced myself. My name is Ingeborg. The reason why I joined the group was because I would like to receive hints on how to make my garden more hedgehog-friendly. I live near a busy road, and I keep seeing driven-over hedgehogs there. I don't actually want one as a pet.

Sorry I haven't been around much lately. My computer is defunct so I'm using a friends to catch up on things I've been neglecting lately.
Ingeborg I don't know a whole lot about wild hedgehogs but I can try to find out some info on making your garden safer and more hedgie friendly.
I do remember reading many years ago about how hedgehogs like woodpiles. They love to climb around in them and make their homes in them. There is also usually plenty of food living in the wood to keep them happy.
I'll see what more I can find out and let you know. Hopefully my computer will be back on track again soon and I'll be more readily available.
Hi!!!!! I'm a Hedgehog lover in Wisconsin. My first Hedgehog, Cringer, recently passed away. I'm hoping to adopt a rescue for my next Hedgehog and I am patiently waiting for one in Wisconsin.
