Starting another thread - Petitions/causes #2
some signed - but not all - as time runs out > see Rainforest party thread
caught up ..thanks Val
I'll start a new thread soon - thanks everyone -
I understand, Val and thank you for checking if a new thread can be started. I do a lot of work on Care2 on my kindle (tablet) and it just takes forever to reach the bottom to comment that I signed the petitions. If not, I will still check for new petitions but may not comment if time doesn't permit. With 4 children, time is a commodity =]
So glad Brenda - I will try and remember to keep them clickable from now on -
Let me ask about starting a new thread too - some groups rather not.
Signed all but the last one, it has ended. Thanks Val.
Krista - I will start a new thread soon - new as co-host to this group
Brenda - this is for you - maybe it'll work - thought I have made them clickable.
This should work -
Hello Frere, can't copy and paste - thank you for trying to help me.
This is a very long thread to reach the bottom
Val, signed 4 of the 5. I can't find where to sign Virunga: drilling for oil in gorilla country?
Brenda, copy and paste - that goes with the right and left mouse click
I highlight them with a left mouse click, then click right to open them in a new tab - and click left again
One is never too old to learnsomething new!
Greetings from France

End Oil Drilling in the Amazon Rainforest
Two uncontacted tribes call this range of the Yasuni National Park their home, where a variety of birds, amphibians, trees and reptiles also dwell. Unfortunately, other gas companies such as Shell have already drilled in other parts of the Amazon, but this pattern should not continue. Our planet is precious and the oil should remain in the ground. Sign this petition and tell President Correa once and for all that the Amazon Rainforest should be left alone.

As Staples is owned by Romney I'm not pinning many hopes on it having an effect and good things coming from it. Wouldn't it be lovely to be surprised?
Tell Staples "Too Soon to Buy From Asia Pulp and Paper!"
Asia Pulp and Paper (APP) is one of the largest, and most notorious, pulp and paper companies in the world. After destroying an area of tropical rainforests nearly the size of Massachusetts, APP announced a new commitment to clean up its act last year. Despite having many good elements, one year on, many of the company’s promises have yet to be implemented. Additionally, the company’s performance has yet to be independently verified.
That's why your voice is needed. Take a moment to send an email to Staples CEO Ron Sargent to tell him "Don't buy - verify." Make sure he knows that you're looking to Staples to live up to its commitments to the forests instead of taking APP's promises at face value.

Save Yasuní, the Last Wonder of the Amazon
In Ecuador thousands of us have taken to the streets to protest President Rafael Correa’s decision to drill in Yasuní-ITT. The area is the most biodiverse rainforest on the planet and the home to two of the last indigenous communities living in voluntary isolation.

Keep Tassie's forests protected
After a decades-long campaign, critical areas of Tasmania's spectacular ancient forests were officially protected with World Heritage status in June last year. For the first time ever, this was supported by the Tasmanian timber industry and unions.
World Heritage status is awarded by the international community to recognise the highest natural values on Earth.
Now the Abbott Government is seeking to have this protection stripped.

The forest can’t defend itself
Greenpeace campaigners Richard Brooks and Shane Moffatt revealed devastating logging practices in the Boreal Forest by Canada’s largest forestry company, Resolute Forest Products.
Now, in an apparent effort to silence them, Resolute is suing Richard, Shane and Greenpeace for $7 million. Stand with us to show Resolute they cannot intimidate and silence our campaigners with lawsuits.
By signing this pledge, you’ll join thousands who are standing up to help protect this critical habitat and our right to know what’s happening in Canada’s forests. Sign now and your name will be added to the Guardian Tree, which we are going to deliver in-person to Resolute CEO, Richard Garneau, as a symbol of our shared resolve to protect Canadian forests.
Canada’s biggest forestry company needs to know: thousands of us #StandForForests

WE LOVE FORESTS. ESSAR KILLS FORESTS.
Essar wants to destroy the forests of Mahan in Madhya Pradesh for corporate gains. This will also endanger its wildlife and displace local communities. On 22/1/2014, Junglistan activists and people from Mahan were at Essar’s office in Mumbai to demand that they cancel their project in Mahan.
Help Restore Meadows and Creeks In California's Eddy Mountains
Often KS Wild needs your help in urging federal land agencies to be more careful with our public forests and rivers. This time, we need you to speak up in support for a positive Forest Service proposal to reduce watershed damage from logging roads and ongoing damage to meadows from irresponsible off-road vehicle use.

Protect Forests in Eastern Oregon
We must send a clear message to Senator Wyden that the interests of these logging companies should not outweigh the public good. We hold these forests in trust for future generations; therefore, we should seek to increase protections rather than allowing increased logging to adversely affect the environment. Please tell Senator Wyden to reconsider his federal forest plan.
Preserve Georgia's Trails
According to a new U.S. Forest Service report, the southern states are projected to lose 23 million acres of forest — the approximate size of South Carolina — over the next 50 years. In particular, forests in the Piedmont, which includes Georgia and the Carolinas, could decline by as much as 22 percent in coming years.
These alarming findings emphasized the importance of Environment Georgia’s work to push for a federal conservation fund called the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which could go to work purchasing and preserving forests along some our most special trails, including the Appalachian and Benton MacKaye trails.
The fund has been cut from a potential $900 million to $60 million by the House of Representatives. Now, we need Sens. Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss to stand up for green space. Use the form below to email them today.
Thank you, Sara!

"If we are to ensure the survival of mountain gorillas, it is vital that the global community supports our efforts" – Sir David Attenborough
When natural habitats such as that of the mountain gorilla are destroyed, rainfall and weather patterns can be affected, areas can become more susceptible to flooding or drought, and huge amounts of carbon dioxide can be released into the atmosphere, accelerating the effects of climate change.

Last year, 1.9 million tons of palm oil were added to diesel fuel in the EU - in addition to millions of tons of equally harmful rapeseed and soybean oils. The plantations needed to produce the palm oil cover an area of 700,000 hectares - land that until

Halt the Destruction of Oregon’s Forests

It will not only protect natural beauty and wildlife, but it will also protect the very forests that help to sustain the health of our planet and the human population. Stop Special K's Rainforest Destruction
A recent report by Oxfam shows that corporations like Kellogg’s have acquired over 4 million hectares of land for sugar production. Activists say the purchases are undertaken without transparency they say much of this land belongs to indigenous peoples, and it often consists of pristine Rainforests.
Once the land is obtained by Kellogg’s they lock out local people and cut down the forests to turn it into farm land
All this so Kellogg’s can put sugar on our cereals! It’s time for Kellogg’s to stop these land grabs and operate in a transparent and ethic way.

Native Foods, Stop Using Palm Oil Which Decimates Orangutan Populations and Rainforests
You'd think that a restaurant such as Native Foods, which espouses a vegan and environmentally-friendly menu, would be averse to ingredients which lead to wholesale slaughter of orangutans and the decimation of rainforests. Well, you'd think wrongly, because by its wholesale use of palm oil, one of the most toxic ingredients on the planet due to its provenance, Native Foods is in fact supporting the above abominations.

Right now, energy companies are cutting and burning our Southeastern forests to make electricity in power plants.
Burning trees for electricity creates more carbon pollution than coal, gas and oil. It's a dirty process that destroys our forests.
Three companies--Enviva LP, Dominion Power, and Drax Group--lead the industry in cutting and burning forests for electricity. Virginia-based Dominion Power and UK-based Drax Group buy millions of tons of wood from our Southern forests for fuel. Enviva, the South’s largest wood pellet manufacturer, supplies them both—and plans to double production in the coming years.
Defend our forests - tell these companies that burning trees for energy isn't green!
The palm oil company Bumitama Gunajaya Agro (BGA) is logging large areas of rainforest in the Tanjung Puting National Park and the adjacent buffer zone in order to convert it into palm oil monocultures.
The nation of India is rapidly clearing its old growth forests to make way for coal development. This, matched with explosive population growth, will quickly destroy the countrys natural ecosystems. It will not only aid climate change, but will pollute food and water resources and threaten endangered species like the beloved tiger. Since India is enormous both in landmass and population, its environmental collapse will surely affect the entire region, if not the world.
The Sundarban region is the largest section of continuous mangrove forest in the world and is home to roughly 500 species of fish, birds, mammals, reptiles, and the endangered Bengal Tiger. The loss of the Sundarbans would likely result in the extinction of these cats as it is only one of a few forests left capable of maintaining several hundred tigers.
