Fixing Homelessness & Hunger in Seattle, WA
FareStart trains homeless and disadvantaged people for careers in the food service industry. The FareStart Cafe opened in Seattle on 6/21/04. Since 1992, FareStart has provided students with the skills to become successful employees, maintain self-sufficiency, and make lasting improvements in their lives. With over 1,250 individual student lives transformed since its inception, FareStart serves over 150 students per year, and 96 percent of its graduates have a job secured on graduation day. Fifty percent of its operating budget is self-generated through food services—restaurants, cafes, catering and contract meals.
