Sustainability Learning Centre in Katoomba

Thinking Global and Acting Local at the Earth Repair Centre in Katoomba by Michael Galvin It is ridiculous that two thirds of the world’s people live in hunger and it is imperative that there are more sustainable systems in place for the future. One obvious solution is to increase composting and soil remineralisation combined with planting increasing quantities of fruit and nut trees, with herbs and vegetables companion planted under and around them, and irrigating with minimum resources and maximum sustainable yield. This can become one of the world’s most productive employment activities to end hunger by providing healthy living foods for everyone. The Earth Repair Centre aims to help motivate public awareness on the importance of repairing our earth with practical examples of permaculture solutions that work for us in our daily lives. A team of committed cooperators are working to retrofit a typical century old house and block in Katoomba into an environmentally aware and friendly home with an abundant food forest. The Earth Repair Centre serves as head-quarters to the Earth Repair Foundation, the Blue Mountains Branch of United Nations Association of Australia and is questing to become a practical example for the Blue Mountains and beyond using interactive educational media. We are working to demonstrate examples of hygienic composting and companion food planting, achieving energy efficiency from renewable resources, maintaining wise water use management, practicing green consumer choices, along with minimum waste recycling management. We acknowledge permaculture design and earth care design, ecologically sustainable development principles, plus feng shui, organic and biodynamic gardening methods, and are adopting the best solutions that enable sustainable living in the home. Our team is acting locally with the global context in mind, attempting to have a healthier, happier and more sustainable existence here on this loving planet Earth, and contribute to leaving this place better than we found it. Thanks to all contributors to the Earth Repair solution strategy in the past, present and future, and for helping make a difference for a better world! This is amazing! I love everything about it! Good luck to you and tell me of anything I can do from a distance, besides give money, which I will do if I can, but the limited funds of a student can only stretch so far...
