Cornel & Diehl's Junkyard Dawg September 16, 2007 9:24 AM
Though I'm more of a Virgina and Virgina/Perique smoker, I decided to open a tin of Junkyard Dawg; a blend I hadn't smoked before.
According to the description on the tin this blend is a, "A revival of a classic American blend that smokers of 30 years ago will instantly recognize. Contains burleys, Latakia and bright Virginia.'
This broken flake is easy to pack. After a good tamping and one relit it offered a cool comfortable smoke with a creamy woodsy flavour and hints of sweet Virginia. Simply put... I loved it! Guess I will have to add a tin or so to my next order.
Smoke well,
Henk

Back to the Barbary Coast again this morning. My last pipe before work. Good thing I bought 2 tins, this one is almost done. Will have to go for the big one next time. 2oz just doen't do it.
Looking over the available selection, notably these two free samples I received from Mac Baren (HH Mature Virginia & HH Vintage Syrian) I think...no, going to wait till this weekend for those. Been hearing some strong feedback, didn't sleep last night so not going to push matters over the edge. LOL.
Looks like it will be more G. L. Pease Barbary Coast this morning.
Ah, finally my bout of flu has passed so after nearly a month I am able to pick up the pipe again.
This morning I sat out in the sunshine and enjoyed a bowlful of Coventry, one of Knoxville Cigar's house blends, with my morning tea. It was just great!
Melissa, thanks for the compliment on the pipe. I was actually a little hesitant when buying it because I didn't know the reputation of Rattray's Pipes. It did however prove to be a good smoker.
This morning I'm unwinding a bit with some Butternut Burley in a Christiano pot/billiard shaped pipe. I was going to go with the Haddo's, but I think the old lady wouldn't have enjoyed waking up to the smell of that! Not bad for an aromatic, actually has a "tobacco-ish" taste, as opposed to most aromatics, and a pleasant room note.
The morning for me is like the evening for most, since I work over night. So this "morning" I'm enjoying some Old Gowrie from Rattray's in a Rattray's horn shaped pipe. I figured I'd match the brand of tobacco to the brand of pipe. In case anyone would like to see a picture of the pipe, I'm including a link from where I bought it... http://www.iwanries.net/acb/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Product_ID=3288&CATID=17.
