How color affects our lives (beautiful pictures!) April 04, 2005 11:31 AM
Whether or not we realize it, we are all affected emotionally by the colors
that surround us. In our home, the colors that we choose reflect our personality
and our feelings at that time. Colors also influence our guests and the other
family members in our home.
RED
Red stimulates our nervous system and increases assertiveness. Reds
make us feel empowered and energetic. they are great for areas where
physical activity is happening, like a workout room. Do you have
trouble getting out of bed in the morning? Paint your bedroom red and
you'll jump out bed. Red seen in the aura indicates passion, courage,
enthusiam, and excitement.
ORANGE
Orange is also stimulating. Red and orange also increase the appetite.
This is why these colors are so popular in restaurants and especially
fast food restaurants. When these colors are present, not only are you
hungry and want to eat a lot, but your nervous system is also
stimulated so that you want to get out of there quickly. Orange is a
great color for a dining room as it helps people loosen up and laugh
more. Around orange, people are usually more gregarious, this perhaps
is why designers for the Oprah Winfrey talk show picked orange and
color as the dominating theme for the set on Oprah's show. In an orange
dining room, dinner parties will last longer and seem more interesting.
Orange seen in the aura indicates energy, optimism, and positive
thoughts.
PINK
Pinks offer a sense of well being and make people feel affectionate and
positive toward others. Pink was once the staple of little girls
bedrooms, but new shades of rose, mauve and blush have become popular
choices in carpets, furniture and social areas like living rooms. A
light shade of pink can be used as a neutral background much like a
gray. Pink seen in the aura indicates friendship, affection, devotion,
and tenderness.
YELLOW
Yellows remind us of the sun. They make a dark room appear to be bright
and cheery. Yellow can visually expand the space in a small room, but
pale yellow should be used in a small room or it can be overpowering.
Yellow is terrific to brighten up a bedroom or a living room,
especially when combined with royal blue. Yellow seen in the aura
indicates luck, intelligence, and academic acheivement.
GREEN
Greens are symbolic of gardens, meadows and forests. When we are
surrounded by green, we feel calm, refreshed and at peace. Green is
great for bedrooms, bathrooms and other areas where tranquility is
desired. Green brings nature indoors, no matter where you live. It is
also very helpful in cooling down a room that receives a lot of hot
sunny weather. Green seen in the aura indicates money, prosperity,
abundance, and a love of nature. Light Green indicates health, new
beginnings, youthfulness.
BLUE Blue is the most popular color of choice by most people. It symbolizes
relaxation, serenity and a deep peace. Blue in the home can be used to
psychologically cool a home in a warm climate and combined with
contrasts of yellow or gold, blue can brighten a home and its occupants
moods almost instantly. Blue seen in the aura indicates peace,
calmness, communication, and intuition. Light Blue indicates spiritual
and psychic development, and compassion.
Purple is a deeply spiritual color and inspires awe and respect. When
made lighter into lavender, it become comfortable and assuring. If you
suffer from insomina, lavender is great in a bedroom, as it lowers
blood pressure and relaxes the mind. Purple however is powerful and
regal and makes a statement in any room. Small touches of purple can
affect the mood of the entire room, even a few throw pillows in this
color will excite the room. Purple seen in the aura indicates
intuitiveness, confidence, and spiritual advancement.
BROWN
Browns symbolize down to earth features. Brown is stable, secure and
supporting. The brown family includes beige and taupe and are great for
neutral areas in the home like kitchens. A rust color in a kitchen with
copper pots combined with green or blue is breathtaking and offers a
calm and supportive feeling. Browns bring rooms together, yet stay in
the background. They neither activate nor pacify emotions, they
cooperate with the other colors, serving to bring them to light. Brown
can be considered the frame of a painting. Brown seen in the aura
indicates stability, practicality, and acquiring land.

Just put "author unknown". This circles through the net, and I assume someone copied it from a book and left the credits out - or didn't, but the first person to copy it from that page did...

I love your pictures and explanations of colors, Carolyn! My whole apt. is painted "antique rose": do you think that would be considered as "pink"? There's a lot of wood too (mostly cherry) ... the kitchen has modern, green forniture, and the office is mostly orange/brown. All three decks have plants.
I'm so glad that you all like this! I received it in my email from a very dear friend and I just had to share it here with all my other friends! Hugs, Carolyn

My absolute favorite colors are the bluegreens: aqua, turquoise, teal, peacock, etc. I suppose I should research these, if I ever catch up, lol!
I love your post and the roses! Thank you!
And Ket, thank you for the links!
I have always been very sensitive to colors. Mama loved to dress me mostly in reds, some pinks... But I craved blues, purples... Finally, I got a blue dress just as I longed for! Looking back at the pics, I look so sallow in it! LOL! But now, as an adult, I can wear a purplish stuff under my foundation to minimize the sallow, for the rare times I dress up or wear make up.
Colors, like aromas do so affect our physiological states! I heard some research that recently showed green to be the color most people could stand to be in for the longest period of time...naturally.

I am just speculationg, but as an artist, I know that black is the absence of colors, and that white a total of colors. So black is no color, and white all colors... To me, white is purity, trueness, humbleness and free (as in free spirit.) I believe that white is open and receptive, that it is completion, and that it is light's totality.
These are only my intuitions to what white could be, (actually, this is what white IS to me.) for I feel that it is the universality that surrounds us... white is part of everything, and everything not lost in the nean is part of white. This is my mental image... and this is the only way I can explain it... I see black as the black holes, the space, the absence, the emptyness, and white as the stars, the space "filler", the present presence, The occupency. White is a balance, and equilibrium. It is a reflector, therefore, it is a reflection of all that "touches" it... and it "touches" all that it reflects... I feel that white is one and all... it reflects to me the feeling of oneness. and perhaps, it reflects to black what it is.
I think that Black and white are two extreams just like two hands are at each's other's opposite when one open his/her arms to their full extend... when one opens him/her self , one becomes one.
Now I better stop, because I am getting carried on and I like it...
I think that black and white, like ying and yang are complement to each other, and they need each other to show that the other one exist. The universe is made of dark and light, and together, they are unity... they form a whole.
everything that is in between White and Black is the multitude of endless possibilities and colors that one can find that one can be.
Thank you for these wonderful colors that all are part of that wonderful white light. Thank you for, with this subject, allowing me to feel that white light working into all that black space.
Now would be a very good thing to see what is the definition for black and white...
Thank you for that opportunity to put down, in black and white, how I perceive this wonderful rainbow that life and reality (at least mine) is.
I am attracted to all the colors of the Rainbow! August 23, 2005 11:35 AM
Carol ...I am attracted to all colors of the Rainbow I love it too. Also when I was a young girl. I saw my Aura...beautiful....I looked in a mirror and I was relaxed....it was a halo of colors... Thanks for this beautiful post.Essie

That's quite interesting the explanations of the colors black and white.Although I like making designs with waxy color pencils,I haven't colored with Black for a while. I tend to like pastels of all hues, and all other darker hues too. I do like Black laquer art a lot.It is classy looking.
