Update on our fight against the dolphin hunt

Dear animal lovers,

The following is an update of our fight against the dolphin slaughter on the Farao Islands.

Today we finally reached the milestone of 50,000 mails in our campaign against the dolphin hunt on the Farao Islands. That is more protest mails that there are in habitants on the Farao Islands themselves (48,668).

I sent a letter today to Kaj Leo Holm Johannesen, the Prime Minister of the Farao Islands, with and urgent plea to halt the dolphin hunt. I have sent an excerpt of this telegram to the members of the European Commission on Fisheries because the Farao Islands are hoping to create friendlier ties with the European Union and the European Free Trade Association.

We want to use the year of European elections to mobilise people against forging of ties with the Farao Islands for as long as they keep committing these bloody crimes against these defenceless animals.

I will keep you up-to-date on how this turns out, we will continue until this horror is put permanently to rest. To finish I would like to inform you about our protest action against the death sentence that the Dutch Minister of Agriculture has signed for the illegally released American elk on the island of Terschelling. Click here to read more and give your support for this action.

Kind regards and sincere thanks for your support,

The Party for the Animals,

Marianne Thieme
Chairperson of the Party for the Animals Netherlands

P.S. The Party for the Animals is the very first party in the world to take a stand for animal rights in a national parliament. This sends an important signal to politicians across the globe and to animal protectors in other countries who also want to establish their own party for the animals. Help us to spread our message! I'm protesting against the biggest slaughter in the world of dolphins. Each year in Taiji, 2,500 dolphins are slaughtered; 13,000 altogether including further north. This brutal slaughter, the largest dolphin kill in the world, goes on for six months every year, from October trough April !!!

This is the start

First the fisherboats go out to sea to find groups of dolphins, then they drive the dolphins with noise, sonars to small coves.Understand that this is allready very stressfull for these dolphins, many get hurt during the hunt that lasts for a whole day and night...

Then the dolphins are kept surrounded with nets in a small cove, all panicking. Some hurt, and dolphins never leave a familymember that is hurt

The "best" dolphins are spared and transported to another location to be sold to Marine Parks !!! If those 'lucky' ones die during/after transpaort, they will be replaced with new ones.A Marine Park and captive dolphin industry around the world are willing accomplice to the kill, paying as much as $100,000 per captured dolphin !!! NEVER VISIT A MARINE PARK !!!

Then the slaughter begins !!! Many dolphins are sliced, hacked in the water, some are injured and transported per car (ALIVE) to slaughter houses to be sliced in their neck, belly while consious and dies a slowly painfull death.

The dead dolphins end up in meat markets, supermarkets, restaurants,as furtilizer or are produced as a by product in cat/dog food !!!

Please think about the dolphins of Japan (taiji) , especially during the months October and April.

Bring awereness to your friends about this hunt, sign petitions, send protest letters.Ask your Government to act about this,do anything !!! Please join me !!!

Resorts World Sentosa's dolphin import stirs controversy January 02, 2009 11:08 AM

THE first of Resorts World Sentosa's bottlenose dolphins are en route from their Solomon Islands habitat to their new home; but not without some controversy.

Although the importation of bottlenose dolphins is legal with a permit, animal activists are upset, saying the wild dolphins were not collected sustainably and will not thrive in captivity.

Earlier this month seven of the animals travelled from the Solomon Islands in the Pacific to Ocean Adventure Park at Subic Bay, in the Philippines.

Another 11 are to arrive soon, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported on Dec 21.

The dolphins are bound for the Marine Life Park at Resorts World Sentosa when the integrated resort opens in 2010 and are in the Philippines for training, the Inquirer reported.

Bottlenose dolphins, one of the most common dolphins in the world, are listed in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITE.

The listing means that trade in these animals is strictly regulated.

A Marine Life Park spokesman said the transport of all the park's animals would 'comply fully with international standards, including those set by CITES'.

The Solomon Islands bottlenose dolphin trade has attracted controversy since 2003, when 28 bottlenose dolphins were shipped to an aquatic park in Mexico.

International organisations and activists said the size of the islands' dolphin population has not been established, so exporting dolphins may deplete the population in the Solomon Islands beyond sustainable levels.

Last June, cetacean specialists from world conservation organisation International Union for the Conservation of Nature wrote to the Solomon Islands' marine resources and environment ministries, expressing concern about dolphin exports without population studies.

In Singapore, non-governmental organisations objected to the Marine Life Park's provision of wild-caught dolphins.

'There are so many captive-bred dolphins, it's not necessary to take them from the wild,' said Mr Louis Ng, executive director of the Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Acres) - one of the local animal protection organisations.

In August, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the Nature Society of Singapore and Acres spoke out against the park's move to bring in whale sharks. That plan is still underway according to reports.

The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) has yet to receive an application from Resorts World Singapore to import the bottlenose dolphins, a spokesman said.

However the permit would be granted if the shipment was accompanied by a valid CITES export permit, and if it met quarantine and housing standards, the AVA added.

Resorts World Sentosa plans to continue their development of the new marine park on the island, despite protests from Singapore's animal activists.

'There are already dolphins in Sentosa. Do we really need another marine park?' asked Mr Ng. He said Acres is in discussion with Resorts World Sentosa to address the animal welfare group's concerns.

The Acres website urges Singaporeans not to support marine parks that keep dolphins in captivity.

All these senseless killings of Dolphins and Whales have allready broken my heart. As the human race, may we never forget what we are guilty of and that one day we will suffer the consequences for those evil deeds.

The Annual Dolphin Slaughter Has Allready Started !!!! October 20, 2008 12:24 AM

Each year, 20,000 dolphins are killed off the coast of Japan .

The Japanese Government never listenens to activistsgroups, scientist eo to stop these brutal killings !!!

Even doesn't inform the citizens that eat dolphin meat about the high level of mercury in the dolphin meat, that poiseness adults and children.

The government is actually encouraging the public to consume more dolphin meat; in addition to human consumption, dolphin meat is also used as pet food and fertilizer. The drive hunts also result in the capture of live dolphins for aquariums and interactive swim programs in Japan and China, in direct violation of the Code of Ethics maintained by WAZA.

These hunts take place mostly in Taiji and is annually from September to April, so 6 Months of killings !!!

Let us here remember and respect and morn the slaughtered dolphins.

Post some thoughts, light up a candle for these precious and killed dolphins !!!
