Protect America's Deep-Sea Coral Reefs August 21, 2009 11:57 AM
Help protect deep water coral from North Carolina to Florida
from destructive fishing methods including trawls, bottom longlines and
dredges. This collection of deepwater coral is believed to be one of the largest deep reef ecosystems in the world!
Bottom trawls can move 18-ton rocks and pulverize everything in its path, including deep sea corals. Help preserve these unique cold-water reefs, which include hundreds of pinnacles up to 500 feet tall. They are America's answer to the Great Barrier Reef.
We are at a critical time right now for Columbia and Snake River salmon and steelhead. We desperately need a change in federal policy in order to protect endangered salmon and the communities and jobs that depend upon them.
Please ask for leadership from the Obama Administration toconvene a stakeholder negotiation process to resolve the conflict in the Columbia-Snake River basin -- to restore wild salmon and steelhead to healthy fishable populations, to create jobs, keep communities prosperous, and promote a clean energy economy.
Please fill in your information, personalize the message below, and send it to Dr. Jane Lubchenco, Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Nancy Sutley, Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ).
My friends,i've already sent out a news alert about the Dutch Government wants to ban the Dutch flag of Sea Shepherd Society vessels. Please consider signing my petition. Thanks for the support dear friends. *For the Oceans* Hugs Claudia

A proposal before the IWC this year would allow Greenland, a protectorate of Denmark, to begin killing humpback whales. Humpback whales have not been hunted industrially since the mid-1960s, and their populations have not fully recovered from centuries of whaling. Allowing them to be killed again could open up the door to extinction for this majestic species.
Switzerland once disapproved of whaling because of the cruelty involved -- there is no humane way to kill an animal so large. But this country now says that it believes commercial whaling should be allowed, as long as it is regulated. Whaling is still as inhumane as ever and, with the additional threats that whales face, such as climate change, food depletion, ship collisions, and entanglement in fishing gear, there is simply no justification for subjecting them to suffering and death at the hands -- and harpoons -- of whalers.
Please go look at this petition regarding dolphin slaughter and if you feel as passionate about this issue as I do, please sign so that I can send this to Broome for their attention.
Robert Read (groupowner of SEA SHEPHERD & OCEAN SENTRY SUPPORTERS) has set up a petition against eBay,that they allow on their website the selling of sharkproducts. We all know that sharks are in much trouble allready. This petition also will represent the selling of any wild animal products on eBay.Please consider signing this petition and forward to all your friends.I know this is a petition that will be delivered to it's target !!! Lets show eBay what we are worth ! Hugs Claudia *For the Oceans*

Resorts World at Sentosa wants to import whale sharks for the attraction and entertainment of visitors. Whale sharks are vulnerable to extinction and have never done well in captivity. They can grow as large as two city buses, migrate thousands of kilometers in the wild, and live up to a hundred years. It is just plain cruel to keep them in glass cages.
Whale sharks have never fared well in captivity. Two whale sharks died within five months of each other at the Georgia Aquarium.
Write to the Minister of National Development, the Singapore Tourism Board and Resorts World at Sentosa before this tragedy happens on our shores.

A plan to open up our federal waters to industrial ocean fish farms came from the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council.Take action now to stop reckless development of ocean fish farms in U.S. waters.
A proposal to allow ocean fish farming - the mass production of fish in often overcrowded huge floating net pens or cages out in ocean waters - starting in the Gulf of Mexico, could put coastal communities, the environment and consumers at risk. We have the chance to stop this, but if we don't speak up now, this new industry could become a reality as soon as this summer.
The first regional plan to allow industrial ocean fish farms came from the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council - a federal advisory body that helps make rules about fishing. This January, the Gulf Council , which has a number of aquaculturists and people interested in aquaculture on it, finalized a plan to allow ocean fish farming in the Gulf of Mexico. This sets the stage for other councils nationwide to do the same if the plan is approved.
Some major problems with ocean fish farming:
The cages allow fish waste and chemicals to flush straight into the open ocean.
Fish farms can introduce escaped fish to the wild that behave differently from and compete with and spread disease to wild fish populations.
Fishmeal and oil - made from smaller, wild fish species - are used to feed farmed carnivorous fish. Increasing fish farming to an industrial level could increase demand for fishmeal and oil - in turn, decreasing the food available for wild fish populations, marine mammals and seabirds. In some cases, it takes up to six pounds of wild fish in feed to produce just one pound of farmed fish.
Congress has been protecting us from widespread development of ocean fish farming by rejecting several bills proposed in recent years allowing the industry access to our ocean waters. This Gulf plan is a backdoor way to get around Congress' decision. Luckily, there is a new leader at NOAA - Dr. Jane Lubchenco - who is known for basing decisions on sound science.
Shark nets are an unnecessary and outdated practice designed to address an issue that could easily be tackled in a non-lethal way, and they blemish South Africa's image as a world leader in conservation.
I will probably not sleep tonight, knowing what tomorrow could bring.
We are only a few hours away from learning the outcome of one of the greatest efforts the ProtectSeals team -- together with you -- has ever undertaken. And there is still time to help.
I need your help to ensure that every elected representative walks into tomorrow's meeting with one focus: passing a strong ban that will stop the cruelty and save the seals. Please, whether this is your first action on behalf of seals or your tenth, stand with us one more time and do the following right now:
One week. In just one week, European Union decision-makers will vote on a proposal that could mark the greatest milestone yet in our campaign to end cruel commercial seal slaughter in Canada and around the world.
After months of working toward this moment, after the heartbreak of witnessing this year's seal slaughter in Canada, we have reached the final stretch in our fight to close European markets to this traffic in animal cruelty. By reducing demand, we can drive down the price for seal skins even further and leave the sealers no reason to kill seals.
The lives of millions of innocent seal pups will be saved.
TAKE ACTION
Now is the time for Europeans to act. You have the power to make this ban happen. Animal advocates across the globe are waiting and watching, each holding their breath, hoping against hope. It is up to you to help ensure that EU officials vote for a total ban when the time comes. We need you, as constituents of these decision-makers, to let your leaders know how the people feel on this issue.
There are three simple steps you can take today to help save the seals:
1) Keep spreading the word! More than 200,000 individuals have already signed our petition to pass a total ban on the trade in seal products. Thank you for asking your friends to join our campaign -- please tell everyone you know! Signatures will be forwarded to the European Parliament and European Commission. Remember, the EU citizen who recruits the most friends to sign by 5th May will win a tripto visit the Canadian harp seal nursery next spring.
Iceland's Fisheries Minister Steingrímur J. Sigfússon is allowing 150 endangered fin whales and 100 more minke whales to be cruelly killed, ignoring the tremendous economic benefit watching live whales brings to the country and the world.
Sharks survived the mass extinction of the dinosaurs but are now in danger of being lost forever. By removing apex predators from the food chain, we tilt the ecological balance of our seas. This threatens the stability of all marine life and humanity.
"The Canadian government has begun its annual war on seals. This year, sealers will beat and skin 338,200 of these gentle animals. Now more than ever before, it is vital to speak up and demand a permanent end to the cruel seal slaughter and to urge everyone you know to speak out as well."
Please sign this petition of PETA for seals in Canada:
Stop Iceland from killing endangered whales! To: Please write to the Icelandic Fisheries Minister and tell him whales are worth more alive than dead. Iceland's Fisheries Minister Steingrímur J. Sigfússon is allowing 150 endangered fin whales and 100 minke whales to be cruelly killed; ignoring the tremendous economic benefit whale watching brings to the country and the world. Our friends at the Icelandic whale watching association, Icewhale, are worried that killing whales could also have a negative effect on their businesses. Apart from the unacceptable cruelty involved in whaling, during its economic crisis Iceland should be doing all it can to protect the whales it depends on for tourism.

please support our livestock production reduction petition for our oceans! March 14, 2009 12:36 AM
Hi all!!
The University of California, San Diego student organization: VEG (Vegetarian
Environmentalist Group) is happy to present an online petition which aims to
reduce the livestock industry via means of removal of governmental subsidies
for livestock farmers as well as implementation of tax for livestock products
for their detrimental external social burden on the environment. If you are
still unfamiliar with the relationship between livestock production and the
environment, I have listed the key facts below. Here is our petition link:
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: SUMMARY OF LIVESTOCK'S IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT
(SOURCE: 2006 UNITED NATIONS FAO REPORT, LIVESTOCK'S LONG SHADOW)
Our current livestock industry is responsible for emitting 37% of all
human-induced Methane, 65% of all human-induced Nitrous Oxide, 9% of all
human-induced Carbon Dioxide, and 64% of human-induced Ammonia. The Carbon
Dioxide equivalent of livestock industry emissions is 18%, which is greater
than all transportation combined (transportation CO2 equivalent is 12%). So, we
need to decrease the livestock industry along with turning to alternative
transportation systems (like biking!!). We cannot just pin global warming on
one single source and go from there, all aspects need to adapt to the current
climate crisis.
In addition to the greenhouse gas emissions, livestock current needs 36% of the
world grain and 74% of the world soy to sustain its industry. If you think
about it, this is not sustainable at all in the long run. It is definitely not
an efficient usage of world crop supplies.
Now lets talk water. Water is essential for survival. Did you know that
California currently imports 100% of its clean water supply? Yes... and we are
not increasing our world water supply. Yes, there are technologies being
researched to desaltize the ocean waters, but think about the cost of that.
Its not a quick and easy solution. The best solution would be for everyone to
be frugal. While major medias are telling us to conserve water during showers
and toothbrushing, they are leaving out a major part of water usage.
According to the Stockholm International Water Institute, 20% of all world
water supply goes to industries, 10% of all water goes to households, and 70%
of all water goes to producing food. These statistics awaken a lot of people
because if you think about how much water we use in industries and households
(its A LOT), many folds more is going to agriculture. Now get this: within the
agricultural business (which uses 70% of all our clean water), 1 POUND OF
LETTUCE takes 23 gallons of water to produce, 1 POUND OF WHEAT takes 25 gallons
of water, 1 POUND OF APPLES take 49 gallons of water, 1 POUND OF CHICKEN takes
815 gallons of water, 1 POUND OF PORK takes 1,630 gallons of water, and 1 POUND
OF BEEF takes 5,214 gallons of water. (You can do some research online to see
how to have defined these water usage values according to pounds) So now the
question is, one plate of dinner will fill most of us up (some go for seconds,
thirds, but anyways..). If you fill that one plate with meat, thats 6000
gallons of water or more. If you fill that one plate up with rice and veggies
(this can be tasty faux meat too!), it takes less than 100 gallons of water.
Please, be frugal and responsible. Imagine a planet with no more water.
Here are just some additional costs of livestock production. Did you know that
livestock farming land takes up 70% of all agricultural land, and 30% of world's
ice-free terrestrial surface? Yup. And for the forest lovers (we should all
love forests, they are the lungs of our planet), 70% of the Amazon rainforest
is currently being occupied by pastures; feedcrops occupy a large sector of the
remaining 30%.
Everyone talks about saving energy now with new bulbs, solar power, etc. Well
why not talk about food, too. The livestock sector requires 16 times more
fossil fuel energy than other sectors of agriculture. Moreover, livestock is
increasingly being fed with grains and cereals that could have been consumed by
humans, converting only up to 33% of its nutrients for our consumption.
Lastly (for my purposes), the U.S. livestock sector alone produces 900
million tons of manure annually. Immense lagoons used to store waste are known
to heavily degrade the surrounding air and water, creating dead zones within
our clean bodies of water. Besides harming our precious marine life, its nice
to know that we are surrounded by 80% of water of this planet. So if our ocean
dies, we probably dont have much of a chance for survival either.
All in all, its good that we are more aware of global warming and finally
(most people) recognize it as partially (if not mostly) human caused. Now,
besides being frugal, using a reusable bag, riding a bike or taking the bus,
changing lightbulbs, and saving shower time, please also change your diet. It
really makes a huge impact, even though it seems like youre just intaking a
piece of meat, that piece of meat came from loads of environmental damage (as
well as suffering!). Inaction is inexcusable. If youre a non-vegetarian, go
vegetarian. If youre already a vegetarian, go vegan. If youre already a
vegan... go organic Of course, if you can go straight to organic vegan that
is the best for the environment in terms of personal contribution. Be Veg, Be
Green, Save the Planet. (doubtful? do research!)
WSPA Protect the Whales. February 23, 2009 3:44 PM
HomepagePrivacyDonateContact UsDear Cheryl As a swimmer, I love marine life and whales in particular. That's why I've joined WSPA's campaign calling on the Australian government to be a strong global voice on the cruelty of whaling.
Quite simply, there is no humane way to kill a whale. And although the incredible cruelty involved in killing a whale is so heart-wrenching for all of us, it's also the most powerful argument there is to end whaling.
That's because no-one can deny the intense suffering involved - not even the nations that slaughter these wonderful mammals.
But first the Australian government needs to recognise the importance of cruelty in ending all whaling, and speak out about whale welfare. After all, it's the one irrefutable reason why whaling must end. Once and for all.
Together, we can help stop whales suffering in silence. So please, join me to help protect the world's whales and take action today.
Urge President Obama to strengthen the whaling ban
During the last several years, the United States has reversed its long-term leadership role of protecting whales from commercial hunting and has initiated efforts to allow Japan and possibly other whaling nations to expand hunts to coastal waters.
By leading closed-door meetings to discuss compromises that would allow an expansion of whaling, the current U.S. delegation, a holdover from the previous administration, to the International Whaling Commission (IWC) is contradicting U.S. policy on both whaling and transparency in government. U.S. citizens are against the commercial slaughter of whales and the international public looks to the U.S. to protect whales from cruel and ecologically unsustainable hunts.
Please join us in urging President Obama to strengthen, rather than weaken, the global commercial whaling ban and to restore U.S. leadership on whale conservation before the next IWC meeting which will be held March 9-11, 2009.
Boycott Iceland, Send the emails, ask your friends to do the same and forward !!! February 12, 2009 1:42 PM
The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is calling a blanket boycott of Iceland. Paul Watson encourages everyone to say to people around the world to not buy Icelandic vodka, sweaters, and fish, to not go as tourists to Iceland and to not use Iceland as a refuelling station for private jets.
Sea Shepherd has outlined the following Companies to boycott (all of which are owned by ?Baugur? a wholly owned Icelandic company):
Karen Millen and French Connection clothing retailers - Don't wear clothing that supports the slaughter of endangered whales.
Iceland Frozen Seafoods - Boycotting this chain is a natural of course
Hamleys (Large Toy Retailer) - Children love whales and children would not want to have a toy made by a company that supports the killing of whales.
The House of Fraser (Department Store) - Not Scottish but 100% Icelandic and patronizing this chain is supporting Iceland's program to slaughter Fin and Minke whales.
If you wish to assist and join Sea Shepherd in this boycott for the whales, please follow the below instructions.
Below this is a template letter expressing your boycott. Please take a minute of your time and send it to the emails and online form links that are provided. All the contacts are for the companies that Sea Shepherd is calling a boycott to.
SEND THE BELOW LETTER TO THE FOLLOWING EMAILS: enquiries@karenmillen.co.uk; info@icelandic.is; fiskval@fiskval.is; icelandicusa@icelandic.com; louis@blueice.is; info@icelandic.is; info@phhs.de; info@phhs.de; info@coldwater-seafood.co.uk; technical@seachill.co.uk; icelandic@icelandic.fr; iberica@icelandic.is; icelandic@icelandic.no; info@coldwater-seafood.co.uk; blueice@blueice.is; party@hamleys.co.uk;
I, YOUR NAME, am deeply saddened by the Icelandic Government announcement that they will slaughter 150 endangered Fin whales and 100 Minke whales over the next 5 years.
The Fin whale is listed as an endangered species and Iceland is already violating international conservation law by exporting Fin whale meat to markets in Japan without the required CITES export permits. Trading in endangered species is illegal under the provisions of the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species.
I do not support the illegal trade or slaughter of whales and therefore I am hereby boycotting all your goods until the Icelandic Government revokes the authorization of whaling.
I am sorry that it has reverted to this, especially in this current economic crisis. However the Icelandic Government will not listen to us, therefore we must take these extreme measures.
It is also my personal goal to spread this boycott message to others.
Call and email your MP. It's your MP's job to represent your views in Parliament. Ask him or her to take a stand for seals!
Tell Minister of International Trade Stockwell Day that the seal hunt damages Canada's international reputation, and remind him that it has resulted in ongoing global boycotts of Canadian seafood and tourism.
The Hawaiian monk seal is disappearing. And because they are found only in the U.S., it is our responsibility to save them. With fewer than 1,200 individuals remaining, it is more endangered than the giant panda or the Asian elephant.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has gotten off to a good start: they created the Hawaiian Monk Seal Recovery Team to coordinate the urgent response essential to the seal's recovery. But more must be done! The Recovery Team needs $7 million a year to save our seals, but NOAA has not adequately funded the plan. Meanwhile, the Hawaiian monk seal population continues to plummet.
We are facing an escalating crisis, and we need your help - today! Urge Mary Glackin, acting NOAA administrator, to show support for properly funding the Hawaiian Monk Seal Recovery Plan
As we start a new year, it is shocking to reflect that in 2008 alone, over 300,000 whales, dolphins and porpoises are likely to have died in fishing nets around the world. Thats around one every two minutes.
Not only are damaging fishing practices threatening the very existence of some whale and dolphin populations and species, they are also causing appalling suffering.
Our new research has revealed the horrific nature of these deaths. Once trapped in fishing gear, in their panic-stricken attempts to surface for air, whales and dolphins often sustain cuts, broken teeth, beaks and jaws, internal injuries and even, in extreme cases, severed fins and tail flukes.
Whales and dolphins breathe air, but can hold their breath for long periods of time, around five minutes for the smallest porpoises and over an hour in the case of sperm whales. Once trapped underwater, they are likely to die long, drawn-out and painful deaths.
This level of suffering would not be tolerated in commercial meat production on land, but happens routinely in the production of some fish. It must stop.
WDCS is calling for governments and regulatory bodies around the world to act urgently and decisively to end this unacceptable suffering.
In the UK, we will soon start to see bodies wash up on Cornish beaches as a result of the pelagic trawl and other fisheries, in what has become an annual destruction of hundreds, probably thousands of dolphins. Meanwhile, in New Zealand, endangered Hector's and Maui's dolphins face a fight for survival.
You can help our campaign by sending an e-mail to the New Zealand Government urging action to ensure the survival of these dolphins and to end the suffering.
Australian Marine Conservation Society. January 27, 2009 7:03 PM
Hello
Time is running out to save our World Heritage Sharks, and this is our last chance in the forseeable future. Federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett, MP must receive your signatures by 5pm (this) Friday 30th January, 2009. It's up to Minister Garrett, MP to save our World Heritage Sharks.
Despite shark populations collapsing around the globe, our very own governments are entrenching shark fisheries in our World Heritage Great Barrier Reef. Shark fishing is unsustainable because sharks are slow growing, have few offspring and are long lived. This means they are extremely vulnerable to fishing impacts. Having lived on the planet for 450 million years and being apex predators of the ocean, the consequences of their removal may be devastating for the planet.
Last year, over 6000 Ocean Activists wrote to Federal Environment Minister, Peter Garrett MP, and Queensland Fisheries Minister, Tim Mulherin MP, calling on them to protect Australia's World Heritage sharks.
We showed the government that people want our World Heritage sharks protected and not killed to provide cheap local seafood and fins to service the international trade in shark fin.
Your letters convinced the Queensland Government to make the following commitments to sharks in 2009. In summary the government will:
1. Reduce shark deaths by 300t by mid 2009, a reduction from 900t to around 600t; 2. Introduce a bag limit of 1 shark per person (in possession limit) for recreational fishers. Previously there was no bag limit; 3. Declare several threatened sawshark, speartooth and reef shark species as 'no take'.
While this is some progress, it does not deliver a government commitment to phase out shark fishing on the Great Barrier Reef completely and won't stop 600t of sharks (over 70 000 sharks) being killed this year in Queensland. It is appalling that Australia contributes to the global decline of shark populations.
Minister Peter Garrett MP, is the politician who has the ultimate say on this burning issue and will make his final decision in early February.
That gives us a brief window of time to remind Minister Garrett of just how many people want our World Heritage sharks saved. Please tell your friends. Please tell your family. Forward this email on to as many people as possible. We can turn this around. Signatures are due by 5pm Friday 30th January, 2009. Our oceans need you to sign and submit the attached letter to Minister Garrett and get your family and friends to do so as well. We must show him that the people expect our Minister for the Environment to make a stand and protect our World Heritage Sharks.
Since the world banned commercial whaling in 1986, Japan, Norway and Iceland have continued the slaughter and more than 30,000 whales have been killed. Please Take Action Today: Tell the new administration to keep whale protection a public issue.
Western Australia's Exmouth Gulf is one of the richest marine environments in Australia. It is a nursery for humpback whales, dugong and turtles. It also contains highly productive mangrove forests which feed and restock both the Gulf and the nearby spectacular Ningaloo Reef.
This proposal has been damned by the WA Government's own departments but we need to convince the new WA Government that the proposal must not proceed.
The Australian Marine Conservation Society has deep concerns about the salt mine proposed for our precious Western Australia coast. We need your help to stop this unsustainable project going any further.
Please sign the submission to the WA Government and tell them to HALTTHESALT!
However, Exmouth Gulf - one of WA's most environmentally important areas - is now under threat from a plan to build one of the world's biggest salt mines.
Please join Care for the Wild in opposing the futile and merciless slaughter of pilot whales in the Faroe Islands.
Take Action!

It's taken nearly a year of constant pressure, but we've finally convinced Dr. Susan Lark to sell cosmetic products containing squalene derived from olives rather than deep sea sharks. More than 15,000 of you contacted Lark, telling her it was unconscionable to sacrifice already at-risk shark populations for the sake of beauty.
First she claimed her product was okay because the sharks used were bycatch of the orange roughy fishery. When we pointed out the error in this logic, she then claimed the source was "sustainably fished" sharks from the Mediterranean. When it became clear that we weren't buying her excuses, or her beauty products, she finally agreed to change her product line. We are happy to report that the first new product is currently in development.
The new Congress has hit the ground running, with the introduction of the Shark Conservation Act (HR 81). This bill would require that sharks caught in all U.S. waters be landed whole with their fins still attached. We're asking you to contact your Representative and ask him or her to help ensure fast passage of this important piece of legislation.
We've started 2009 off on the right foot with our Dr. Lark victory and the introduction of the Shark Conservation Act- and you made it happen. Please keep the momentum going by taking action today in support of the Shark Conservation Act.

Thanks to Wavemaker pressure, Dr. Susan Lark has decided to start selling beauty products containing squalene from olives rather than shark liver oil. What's more, Congress is set to ban shark finning in U.S. waters - if it hears from you!
There is a terrific in-depth report on the oceans in this week's issue of The Economist. which delivers plenty of information on the unfolding collapse of marine environments: fishery mismanagement, ocean acidification, dead zones, and poorly managed aquaculture.

31 countries issued a protest to the Japanese Government, calling on the country to end it's scientific whaling program. But the United States of Amercia was a no show. Ask USA for their support:
We will contact: The Honorable Carlos M. Gutierrez, Secretary of Commerce, 1401 Constitution Ave, NW Washington, DC 20230 and/or cgutierrez@doc.gov and Makoto Ishihara - Mr, Kunihiko Koike, and Yuji Igarashi with your vote on this petition.
Nippon Suisan, Maruha and Kyokuyo are the Japanese seafood conglomerates who for the past 20 years, even after a global moratorium on the killing of whales, wholeheartedly supported the government of Japan's "scientific" whale hunt by purchasing, canning and selling whale products.
18 months ago, after letter writing efforts from supporters like you, these companies quietly divested their ownership in the Japanese whaling fleet. They now claim they are no longer responsible.
These three companies owned and operated the whaling fleet when the Government of Japan announced plans to kill almost 1000 whales including 50 fin whales in an internationally recognized sanctuary, yet they now claim their hands are clean.
Please urge the CEOs of these companies and their wholly-owned subsidiaries to tell the Government of Japan the world doesn't need to kill whales in the twenty-first century to study them.
With 2009 just a few days away, all of us at Pacific Environment are celebrating an incredible year full of hard-fought victories. As a member of our online community, you helped us get here. Looking forward, we see a year full of promise and possibilities for protecting our environment. But we still need you: please make a secure online donation at www.pacificenvironment.org/2009!
Understanding the economic situation of the world today, we all need to dig a little deeper to create the change we want to see. With Pacific Environment's low overhead - fundraising was only 5% of our expenses during the last fiscal year - we stretch your gift far, from southern China to the Arctic.

The government of Canada has a fleet of powerful ice-breakers. They have the money, they have the means. They could have reached the whales and they could have broken a path for them to freedom. Instead of noisy slightly irritating icebreakers delivering mercy, we had dozens of ruthless Inuit killers blasting away with high powered rifles at screaming whales frantically trying to escape the bullets, desperate in panicked horror as they dove and surfaced, frustrated with no place to go.
Please help prevent Japan winning the vote to bring back Commercial Whaling. Click image to vote for this campaign and leave comment at the Greenpeace web site.
Please give 5 minutes of your time to help save the whales. Please help maintain the whaling moratorium (ban) by sending an E-mail to nations who support Japan at the International Whaling Commission many of the small nations on the list have accepted payment from Japan in return for their votes. Please note that this is NOT a chain mail FW it on campaign. Those annoying E-mails can carry virus and trojans. This campaign requires a little more effort on your part (cut and paste) and because of this will hopefully succeed in lobbying effectively.
All you have to do is copy the message below (highlight > right click > copy). Open your E-mail program and in a new message paste (right click > paste). Don't forget to change "(your name)" to your name! Select some E-mail addresses (highlight > right click > copy) and paste them into the "To" field. Add a subject like "Please read" or "Dear Commissioner" or "Please Stop Killing Whales". Click Send and you are done.
To make this campaign much more effective copy all the text; these instructions, the E-mail addresses and the message (highlight > right click > copy). Then paste it all into a new message and send it to all of your friends urging them to do the same as you to help save the whales. Post it on Myspace etc. Plant the seeds and let them grow!

For the Whales
Ok peoples its time to get your pens out, start typing, send a fax or make a few calls while Sea Shepherd are the only organization in the world heading down to Antarctica to stop the illegal killing of almost 1,000 precious whales, ABC shops around the country and online to the whole world are jumping in bed with the Japanese and unwittingly supporting the senseless murder of these majestic animals.
ABC Shops are selling a shirt with whale meat beef of the sea. OK yes probably meant to be a joke for us Aussies but when the murderers are on their way to the Australian Antarctic whale sanctuary to kill whales in our own backyard, we should be encouraging ABC shops to sell Sea Shepherd shirts, not support the whale killers!
