JOHN WALSH NEEDS YOUR HELP WITHIN THE NEXT 48 HOURS

This is an important email.  Please help us pass the Child
Safety Act by clicking on the link below to send a letter
to the US Senate leadership and help change the laws to
better protect our children.

We need a law that will protect our children from child
predators and sex offenders.  We've needed a law for a
long time.  Too many children have suffered.

Tragically, in the first months of 2005, Jessica Lunsford,
Jetseta Gage, and Sarah Lunde were each murdered.  In each
case a known sex offender was the accused killer.  The
mounting emotional toll that those cases took on the
public opened lawmakers' eyes to the absolute need for
effective laws and rules concerning child predators and
sex offenders.

SO WHY DON'T WE HAVE A LAW YET?

The Senate and the House passed bills with some
differences in language requirements.  That means
senators and representatives need to get together
to create and pass one uniform bill -- and get it
in front of the president.

Every American wants to see it get done.

The president says he wants to sign this law.

Tell Senator Arlen Specter (US Senate Judiciary
Chair) that you want the Child Safety Act
completed and put on President Bush's desk right
away.

SEND A LETTER TO SENATOR SPECTER NOW

Tell him that you want to see a national law to
protect our children from sex offenders and predators.
At the following link you'll find an E-mail letter you
can easily add your name to and send in less than a
minute.

SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR JESSICA'S LAW

COPS is asking for your support to help pass Jessica's Law, the toughest sex offender law in the nation.

Jessica's Law is named in memory of nine-year-old Jessica Lunsford, who was taken from her home in Homosassa, Florida, on February 23, 2005, and found brutally murdered three weeks later. A registered sex offender with an extensive criminal history and outstanding warrants for probation violations confessed to abducting, raping, and burying Jessica alive only 150 yards from her home.

With your help we can protect our children from dangerous sexual predators. Please sign the petition today.

COPS and I support the Sexual Predator Punishment and Control Act of 2006: Jessica's Law, the toughest sex offender law in the nation.

Jessica's Law will:

  • Ensure that all child molesters who molest children under the age of 14 are put into a prison with a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years or 25 years to life. Closes all loopholes in California’s “one-strike” laws.
  • Eliminate all "good-time" credits for sex offenders ensuring that these sex offenders are required to serve their entire sentence and will not be released for good behavior.
  • Electronically monitor convicted sex offenders for life, if they are ever released from prison, through GPS tracking.
  • Create a 2,000 foot "predator-free" zone around schools and parks to prevent sex offenders from living near where our children learn and play.

Sincerely,
(Your name)

Preventing Tragedy

House Judiciary Committee Chairman F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr. R-Wis., who sponsored the legislation explained, "We intend to make one thing clear to sex offenders across this country -- you better register, and you better keep the information current, or you are going to jail."
