To get a current list of child sex offenders in your area, go to a search engine (yahoo, google, etc.) and type in "list of child sex offenders>your city, state" and you will be able to access them online. Or you can go to this site http://www.prevent-abuse-now.com/home3.htm
This will help all of you out there that have children or young loved ones. All sex offenders have to be registered and their addresses made public for public safety.
I went through the list of offenders for my county and it made me sick. This not only showed sexual offenders, but other offenders as well. I recognized quite a few. I was also looking at the prison sentences for the sexual offenders and I see only 1 and 2 year sentences. That is ridiculous! I feel the sentences for sexual offences should be way longer than that since the victim has to live with it for the rest of their lives.

My County is not listed on this site. I wonder what one has to do to have their county listed. Mine does have a registry that can be found via the link that Tiffany posted. It's actually available through the state listing by county.

Sex Offenders Prison sentences SHOULD be longer! March 18, 2006 12:53 AM
I absolutely agree! Sex Offenders get away with too much! The laws are weak when it comes to sentencing sex offenders. It just sickens me!

Thanks for posting that link Dougie, what an informed and wonderful site, albeit painful to go through, so much pain and sadness. But inspiring also to try to do more to help.

I like the sex offender registry, but it's not for every state and some states only list, the severe offenders. I wish we could see arrest records.
I looked out my window yesterday and saw a tree service company working next door. They rent the property. To my horror there was a man working, who had been fired from my husbands previous employer, years ago.
This pervert stole a company vehicle. Three days later it was found with child porn and alcohol because he was arrested for soliciting sex from a minor, the boy was ...maybe 11-12. I looked for this guy last night online and he's nowhere to be found. So he plead to a lesser charge or he got some type of accelerated rehabilitation (that's what our state calls it) where they can complete some probation, pay a fee and have a clean record. It's a one shot chance for first time criminals of any kind.
So I am disgusted. He's a pedophile...but he's not being tracked! Like I said...we need some arrest records or something else...for those that are just starting to assault children. He's a young man and has just started this repulsive behavior. 20 years from now he'll be a hardcore crimonal, like a John Couy.
Jenni, I have looked for other sites on the web that access other countries and I have not been able to come across any that are better than the link that Dougie posted.
Ginger Snap.. have you thought about emailing D.A.C.A. (Dougie's link) and suggesting that they add more info for more counties?? Here is the link to there home page, which also if any of you haven't check out it is full of info so if you have young ones please do: http://www.magickalshadow.com/daca/index2.html
JoJo, How long ago did this man commit this crime? I know they have been cracking down more and more within the past couple of years so that is why I was asking and thought maybe it happened before they really started to take all this serious enough to start registering them. One thing you may be able to do is bring it up to the city council or attorney prosecutor. They would have the right to look back on his records. You have the right as a concerned citizen and first and foremost MOTHER to take action! Cause a ruckus if need be. Maybe this will bring some attention to some old cases also that can be brought back and have those others put on the registry for other parents and citizens to see! Best of luck!!
Got this from a link to the Crime Library that I saw under another topic - thought it matched this topic well. Apologies if it's already out there.
A pedophile will usually exhibit a series of personality characteristics that are common in this type of offender. It is important to understand that these characteristics alone do not conclusively determine that a person is a pedophile. But if these indicators, combined with a pattern of behavior that arouses suspicion, are present then there may be enough probable cause to believe that the person is a pedophile.
He carries on what can be termed “a special relationship” with a wife. Often pedophiles have failed marriages due to their sexual interests but remain in the marriage to mask their true intentions. Sadly, the wife sometimes knows about her husband’s preference, but prefers to keep quiet to avoid social stigma and disgrace.
He displays a fascination or unusual interest in children. If an adult has an inordinate amount of interest in pre-pubescent children, it doesn’t confirm he is a pedophile, but it should at least arouse suspicion.
He makes frequent references to children in exalted or exaggerated terms such as “pure,” “innocent,” ”God sent,” “blissful” and other descriptive labels that seem inappropriate and excessive. Remember that a pedophile cannot help the way he behaves and therefore will inadvertently reveal aspects about himself during speech.
He has hobbies or interests that commonly belong in the realm of a child’s world such as toy collecting, building models of cars or planes. His home or room is decorated in a child’s theme. And often, that theme will reflect the age bracket of his preferred victim.
He is over 30 years of age, single and has few or no friends his own age. He may also have frequent and unexplained changes of residence. He may be unable or unwilling to discuss why he lost his last job. He may have a military discharge that he cannot explain and a past that he can not easily talk about.
He has systematic and prolonged access to children. Pedophiles, because of the wide age disparity between themselves and their victims, cannot just hang around children. The pedophile has to find a way to legitimize his contact with kids. He usually accomplishes this by obtaining employment in a field where he is forced to deal with children on a daily basis. Jobs like schoolteachers, bus drivers, camp counselors, photographers and sports coaching(14) serve their needs perfectly. They will always volunteer for activities in which they are left alone with children with no parental supervision (Lanning, p. 19).
Pedophiles are also very adept at locating troubled or withdrawn children. This is a skill they have acquired through years of trial and error. They have come to identify what usually works and what usually doesn’t. The most common technique used by pedophiles to obtain sex from children is the seduction method. This process is very similar to the classic boy/girl courtship. Though the child might be under 10-years-old, the pedophile will lavish gifts upon the target, take him or her to amusement parks, museums, restaurants and other places of interest. This author recalls a case in which a pedophile attempted to seduce a child who had an interest in music. The suspect escorted the boy to expensive Broadway plays like Phantom of the Opera and Miss Saigon. Afterwards, they ate in fashionable Manhattan cafes and went sightseeing. The child was just 8- years-old. In another recent case, reported by the New York Times (February 2, 2000), a Bronx man lured neighborhood children to his apartment with Pokemon cards and Chinese food. He then abused a number of children after giving them marijuana and screening pornographic videos. The abused children later got together and attempted to set fire to the suspect’s apartment.
If the target is a troubled child, the pedophile will comfort and sympathize with him or her. Often, over a period of time, the child will develop feelings for the offender even though he is being actively abused. The dynamics at work in this type of situation are well known to psychologists. This process of sympathizing with the offender has been called Stockholm Syndrome. It was first recognized in 1973 after a notorious bank robbery in Sweden in which the hostages taken by the suspects began to develop feelings of attachment toward their captors(15). Children who are sexually victimized can feel the same way. This is often the case when the offender happens to be a member of the clergy or another traditional figure of trust. In early 2002, an elementary school bus driver pleaded guilty in Westchester County Court, New York, to abusing 9-year-old children on his bus during the trip home each day. The abuse may have gone on for as long as 15 years with a succession of students. In cases such as this, the events will not be reported because of the emotional attachment between offender and victim. Remember that pedophiles are masters in the manipulation of children. However, as the victim matures into adulthood, these benevolent feelings toward the abuser often dissipate and the painful truth of the abuse sets in.
In February and March 2002, there were dozens of such cases involving adult men who were sexually molested as children by Catholic priests. These sexual assaults, some of which occurred decades before, are sad testimony to the compulsions of some pedophiles who will molest children for their entire lives until the day they are caught. These revelations, and the startling accusations of systematic cover-up by churc

Man what a wealth of knowledge to add to my web site in my fight agiagst Child Abuse Predators.
I am new to this group. Just surfing the web trying to find out if there is an active organization I can join that allows a person some hands-on opportunities to get involved in changing these unfair laws against pedophiles. Is there a group out there organized with petitions I could sign or information on rallies one could attend to support longer sentences and less leniency for these vile people.
I, too, believe that pedophiles get off easy, with these pathetic sentences that only serve to give the offender an education on evading a charge for their next crime. Next time, and there will be a next time, they won't slip up and leave a victim to testify against them. It is hard enough getting them convicted; why, once we do catch them, do we as a society tolerate letting them loose on our innocent children once again. There are some that say it is against human rights to keep them locked up without giving them a second chance. I say, they don't deserve "human rights," because they are animals that prey on children, stealing their sense of self and security (something they can never get back.) And if it is their rights, the rights of a sick individual forcing themselves upon children, pinned against the rights of their innocent next victim--I vote for the victim. Keep them locked up and off of our streets. Though judges impose sentences that meet the letter of the law, I bet they would find a way to lock these criminals up for life if it was their own child that had suffered at the hands of the pedophile.
I want to know how I can change this. Someone point me in the right direction, please.
We may say "one nation under God" as a proclamation to this great nation of ours, but in a country that deems fit to sentence thieves longer than pedophiles, valuing money and stolen goods over a child's well-being, I say these words ring false!
I have my own story its just as bad witnessing it, My parents where going through a divorce, my mom had to go to work, she thought she knew the husband and wife that where tenants in the apartment building. dont forget i am 42 now and i still cant forget this we were at least 11 and 12 years old. Me and my sister, i witnessed my sister being molested by this husband and wife that where suppose to be good people with there own children. it was hard to watch it is hard to remember. sometimes i still dream about what happened. We were both victimes. out of all how can you not trust two adults with there own children.

Let's be real and forefront. the choice is ours to be involved or not. Too often I see petitions made, posts placed and no response.
Well, it takes a lot more than saying or commenting that abuse is bed, pedophiles need to be stopped or claiming to be outrages. Fact is people turn the other cheek and while that might be fine in biblical terms, it kills children. Do we adults really have the right to turn the other cheek when it is our children of the world harmed? I think not for when we do, it is the children's cheeks being slapped and worse. It is the children harmed.
When one does nothing to correct a problem than one becomes part of the problem.
Ask yourself what have you really done to prevent child abuse. That's rhetoriacal as it only needs to be answered for yourself.
People ask what they can do. Well, there is a lot including think. Brainstorm for ways to help. Put ideas here Sure some will not be practical and some not workable but still share your thoughts with others.
Make a plan such as I will spend 10 minutes a day on my state's resources to see what crimes are committed against the kids, what laws there are to protect the kids and what laws are on the docket and up for consideration. It doing this you will be educating yourself and that will help alittle. Once you see a bill you think should be passed into law, call all your Congress and tell them you support the bill, get your family and friends to call too(this is harder to do so don't be alarmed at their seemingly indifference).
Call Congress to change laws you think are harmful.
You can make a different but not by just sitting back.
Right now is a great time to contact Congress as this is the time that bills are placed on the docket etc. Time to act is now.
Bare in mind that the younger a child victim is, the greater chance that the child was molested by one known to the child and very often the father or stepfather. These are often unpunished and the hardest to deal with. these are the most heineous of sexual abuse for these are cases where the child is forced by law to live with his or her molester/rapist. No other crime is a victim forced to live with the abuser and the protective parent criticised for trying to help the child.
